Bon dia Joaquim, I am a Canadian and looking at what you have a accomplished in 8 months is amazing. Great job! Where are you located exactly? I understand the emotional feelings of going back to where your grandparents lived and wanting to give it life again….I was born in Belgium and my aunts brought me to where my grandparents and great grandparents lived through the 1st and 2nd WW until the 1980 or so. When I was toddler and child I went there for summer week-ends and vacations but didn’t really remember this as we moved to CAnada when I was 5 years old. However when I saw these old houses left almost abandoned I remembered a few things like laughter, sitting around a table all together and those memories came back. It is so wonderful that you will be giving life to your grandparent’s house again, they would be some proud and happy that you will be enjoying the property. Baking bread in your grandmother’s oven, growing corn on your grandfather’s plot, rebuilding the house where laughter will be back again when friends and family will gather over a glass of wine and cornbread. I cannot wait to see you pulling more ivy from the houses’ walls 😅 and seeing it all come to life. We are also looking to move to Portugal and have a small plot of land where I can grow flowers, fig trees, peaches, apricots, cherries etc that we don’t have the chance to grow in Canada unless of course one lives in BC or southern ON. Cyber hugs to you and your wife. Looking forward to seeing how your project progresses.

In just 8 months, phenomenal amount of work done. The transformation is fascinating. Your cornfield is coming on. I didn't think that corn couid be grown on a large scale in Portugal due to the climate. And the onions did very well in such a short period of time. Only 8 months for them? Surely they must be from the previous season? What a wonderful idea to return to the land of your birth and to your Grandparents house and to be able to lovingly restore everything...with improvements. What a journey to there. You'll have to tell us about the 20 yrs leading up to successfully obtaining the title deeds, sometime. It sounds almost like another dimension. Looking forward to future updates.

Thank you for the summary video! I have seen many vids but missed some of the early work. I didn’t realize all the overgrowth of the trees, ivy, vines, bushes, etc. What a job! It must have felt overwhelming! 49-50 years can wreak havoc on a property! Even five years without care can provide much overgrowth! What a great job you’ve done so far! I subscribed a few months ago and look forward to following the progression of the property to the finished homestead. It is an ambitious undertaking, to say the very least. With the addition of the fields, gardens, animals and plants, water system and continued building, you will all be very busy!

That was wonderful to watch, calm, instructive and from the UK thank you so much for doing it in English. I love old stone. I am not sure if putting in very big new windows with the wonderful light that will give is always good though when it gets very hot although I suppose curtains or blinds can close it off. Our ancestors kept houses cold in summer by having very small windows. for me the very nicest part was the connection to the original family and it reminded me of when our parents died and we had to sell the house (not a farm but still full of all our memories). The new owners were lovely and even sent a time capsule they found which we had put in a wall in an extension in about 1970. Nowhere makes such an imprint on any of us as the place where we grew up.
