Yet another up close and personal story told by a native! For most people, the Spring Festival is a time for family gathering and looking forward to a new and hopefully better year ahead. What I find interesting is the father went back to a place where he grew up but no longer lives. Apparently, he has not forgotten where he came from, in contrast with some who would rather not look back at the hard life that they had.
Thankyou for the insight into your familys past. I agree that "hometown" is more linked to our strong emotional connection to a place. A feeling of home.

Thank you so much for taking us along to all these special places rich in history, and intruducing us to your family. 🙏 This really made me think, about places I've lived, and how even in the generations after displacement, it makes me one of those Europeans who don't quite have a hometown. Maybe one day. But it's beautiful to see this rooted 'home' feeling in others! Your videos, impressions and stories are always sublime. And my god, those pink pigs are so lively and cute! 😄 Happy New Year!

This is the first of your videos that I have watched, I love how you capture the charm of traditional life in rural China. I have spent time in many villages in China over the years, and have always found the people welcoming and honest. The street markets that are everywhere often have the most interesting and best foods. Thanks for sharing this very personal video.

Chinese new year greetings from Melaka, Malaysia. I envy Chinese being able to return to their ancestral villages during the celebrations. The ancestral villages of Malaysian Chinese is by tradition still in China. A very important day for Fuchien Malaysians during Lunar celebrations is called Pai Tian Kong on the eight day.

Really good video that captured the essence of a rural Chinese village. You commentary is very exceptional and quite poetic; in particular I liked your expression of bygone times: “Days were slower in the past. The paths were long, like the far off mountains turned into clouds.” So true, so poetic, so beautiful.

The rural life in China is very similar to rural life in Northeast India. The house structure, way you guys smoke meat and also the terrain. Even though we are divided by boundary and politics, it's refreshing to see the similarity of way of life. Keep making more videos like this.👍

I am half Chinese. Watching the daily life of the village people, it doesn't look all that much different from the daily lives of my Chinese families back when they were living and working on their farm far, far away from China. When one of them passed on, they would say that person has gone back to China. And yes, CNY or Spring Festival was a very special day for them and all overseas Chinese.
