Sumitomo Ice Edge, basically low pro truck tires. I tried out Michelin X-Ice XI3’s but they don’t hold a candle to the sumitomos. Not to mention the Sumi’s are $80 a tire in comparison to Michelin’s $250. Usually not a fan of cheap tires by any means, but the Sumitomo’s blow the Michelin’s out of the water.

@@HotBoiRicer depends on what surface you're driving on. the X-ice is a highway ice tire with narrow tread. Looking at the tread of the Ice Edge, it would perform better in snow than the x-ice with its taller and wider tread gap. Sumitomo is a good value brand, inexpensive but not cheap in quality, but I'd wager that the x-ice will be noticeably better than the Ice Edge on ice, especially wet ice, and quieter. If you drive on a lot of snow, the x-ice is going to feel inadequate at times, so they're not directly comparable.

@@gwot Longevity of the tire is a major factor for me. Where I live it can snow as early as October or late as March. But our snows vary from icey to slushy. The X-Ice didn’t last me over a single winter with how soft of a compound they are. They were decent on the ice, performed best in the slushy snow. The Ice Edge tires were definitely much better as all around I’ve never had any issues in my FWD car with getting stuck. Went out in 2 feet of powder with them last year to help my girlfriend out and I just kept on trucking along never lost any traction with them. Definitely enjoy them more than I did the X-Ice

@@HotBoiRicer well, I can't judge a tire that i've never driven on! And it's weird how the x-ice only lasted you one winter, how many miles did you put on? cuz I have a set with over 30k miles and the coming winter will be its last winter.

@@gwot Honestly I only put around 25K-30K on them. Where I live the weather fluctuates so some miles on snow some on just on plain asphalt. Some highway miles, some city. Rotated every 3K miles too.

The only thing that bother me is the height of the car. Slush and heavy snow can rip apart front splitter or side skirts easily. I would be OCD everytime lol. Such a nice car

Haha I know right! I got my front splitter ripped off and cracked in half from driving in heavy snow. I didn't even have my car on lowering springs yet. Standard hight GTI

Oh hell yeah! I used to have a clapped out H6 Outback I got from one of my dads buddies for free. I got plowed in a bit street parking, maybe 2.5-3 feet of snow next to me and I drove right out on shit tires like it was nothing. That thing was an absolute unit in the snow. Subaru's are truly beasts in the snow.

29 miles in my 2017 Legacy Sport at 1:30am in the blizzard of 2020 in NJ. Got home and asked my wife if she wanted to go play in the snow and she said yes... she didn't know I meant go to the nearby plaza parking lot and so donuts. My poor baby. I later went on to dig out a stranded M2 before coming back home.

I run dedicated winter tires on my wrx and my car puts trucks and suvs to shame in the snow. So much fun to drive. My wife got a 2021 Forrester sport back in September so I'm curious to see how it handles in the snow also.

I've driven my 02 through snowbanks deeper than the hood and didn't get stuck, thing just loves winter lol, I live in Canada up in Calgary so we get some pretty decent snow here, that blizzard for yall looks like a regular snow day for us lol, most I've seen was 2.5 feet in one night

@@roadbully7895 thx keep that baby maintained please for your sake. I was also curious if they fixed the oil starvation issue with the oil pickup that the blobeye and Hawkeye STIs had? I ask because I've seen two videos now of guys doing donuts in Blobeyes or Hawkeyes and blowing their Motors. I believe because there's no baffles in the stock oil pan and pickup.

They 100% fixed it, now it’s got other issues besides that, powersteering dying, head gaskets, spinnning a rod. BUT for the most part not bad 😂

I drove all last winter on Cooper zion Rs3-g1's on my RS, they were good in light snow and some slush but once it got below 32f all traction was gone. Got stuck in my own driveway trying to back out and almost took off my rear bumper because of the snow bank the plows made. Needless to say, just get good winter tires people lmaoo
