Yes, I’m 65 years of age and I moved from Hawaii (my home) to Mexico 2 1/2 years ago. I am a Senior, Disabled Female Solo Traveler. It can be difficult being disabled, however, I am not going to sit in a room all day feeling sorry for myself and having no life. I will keep going “till the wheels fall off”.

Its 9:30 at night here in Toronto, Canada, and I just found your channel and was so charmed, I suscribed to you. I am turning 70 this year and I have to tell you I was fascinated with your story. As a Gemini, I have always had an adventerous spirit but it was always tempered by my cusp Taurus which stands for nest building and caution.🙂Like you, I was an only child and always wanted to teach. Went to university and got very discouraged. I married late in life, got divorced and have 3 loving sons. You really touched a spot in my heart with your story Janice. Have always loved the French language. Canada being bilingual, we took it in high school and I carried it on in university. Sadly, I did have an ear for languages but never used my abilities. I learned Italian and became fairly fluent in my marriage mostly through my language skills. I still understand a lot of French but do not practice it any more. It has always been my dream to visit Paris but the closest I got to it was when my mom and I went on her bucket list trip to see where I was born in the UK. (that's another saga). I find winters very hard now up here in Canada and just came back from a trip south. You have whet my travel appetite. Who knows? Maybe one day soon I will have the pleasure of meeting you. Also absolutely LUUV a Texas accent.🥰

Women who don't want to be mothers are not selfish. Please don't perpetuate that myth. Everyone has different reasons for their choices in life . Let's embrace each other's choices not shame other's by using selfish as a description. I'm glad you found your happiness!
@JaniceInFrance

I did not say women who didn’t want to be mothers were selfish. I said I was a selfish person and that’s one reason why I chose not to have children. There was no shame or blame put on anyone else. I just knew at a younger age I was too selfish to give of myself to be a mom because if you are a mom you know what it’s like you have to give 110%. I was able to do that I had an older age.

@@JaniceInFrance Yes I understood. But you still labeled your choices at the time as "selfish" . Which has a negative connotation, For yourself and others. I just feel that we all need to stop putting negative labels on our choices in life for ourselves and others. Why not just say, I was at a time in my life when I was focused on other areas? Why is that selfish? We are from an older generation, myself included where we were too quick to label people and situations. The younger generations are evolving past this and maybe we should try to as well!. In any case I love your videos and hope to retire to France myself someday soon. 🙏

You’re my hero Janice! I’ve been dreaming of living in Paris for years. I’m almost 63, and although am an American citizen, I was born in Europe and have an EU passport. Fear has kept me from going forward with my dream, and once the Pandemic hit, the thought of something like this happening while all alone in Europe paralyzed me even more. And now the uncertainty with the war in Ukraine (poor souls, praying for them) has me thinking again if I will ever be brave enough to make the move and leave my comfortable, though not satisfying current life. You are a lovely lady and I’m sure you’ll be fine, but I am not very social and I don’t know if I’d be able to be all alone in another continent. I’ll keep watching you to get inspired, and perhaps one day, I’ll meet you in France!

The observations about " all the bits and pieces" required by France PALE in comparison with what Canada exacts out of one without giving ANY perspective , France is a garden walk. I have long ago given up on Canada , while also fluent in French. Each time now when descending south through France towards Spain I will hear the ring of your experiences in France : believe me , France IS GENEROUS without people realizing this. Janice, I feel so similar to you about not being satisfied and always wanting more and working for it! I never thought I would be getting my masters but here I am doing it. I moved to France to be an English teaching assistant back in 2021 in Bordeaux and boy was it not what I thought it would be. I hated my job, I was unable to find accommodation so I had to share a place on the school campus I worked at with a very bad roommate, and all in all, I ended up leaving France that same year. I still have the same dream of going back to live for longer (preferably in the south too!) and I am trying to make it happen for 1-2 years from now, only with a better job!! and a better living situation. I admire your resilience and determination moving to France. I am 23 and fear missing valuable time with my parents by moving to France, but at the same time, it's what my heart wants. Ive been watching your videos but still dont understand how you landed such a great apartment and so quickly. In Bordeaux, I went to every single real estate agency there was in the city and outer areas and not one said they could help me due to not having a full time job. And I speak French!!! This is why I am now looking for a full time job in France before going so it will hopefully be easier, and in my field. I wish I was born with a dream that was a little bit easier but France is what my heart has been set on since I was 13 years old.

Hello Janice, I just wanted to tell you, how much I admire your courage and determination for your adventure. I am an almost 70 yr old Canadian lady who discovered France a few years ago, when my husband and I planned and had an amazing Adventure to several different parts of France. We truly fell in love with France and it’s culture. It seems so strange to us how a very colloquial couple such as ourselves could be so drawn to this place so far away. Before we left, we knew we would return,but then the world took some serious twists and we are still planning our return. I am so happy for you taking this plunge, with all its challenges and absolute thrills. We hope we can perhaps visit you some time soon. I had viewed pictures of Chateau Fountain Bleu before our first visit, but prioritized other sights to pack into our time there. I simply did not wish to visit Versailles like so many tourists. All its glided mirrors and hallways were such evidence of the misery that existed during its heyday. Fountaine bleu seemed somehow different, just a different vibe from area. I understand now after visiting France that I definitely have had many life experiences there at one time and I just bonded with the countryside as though I had finally returned to a very beloved home even though I know I have never traveled far from my Canadian home before. Awaiting and dreaming still for us , our return to a place we grew to love so very quickly. Wishing you much love and happiness, and so many thanks for sharing your life experiences both past and present.

Hello, Janice in France, I love your zest for living. Like you, I love to discover new places. I am also a single parent and did all my travels solo. In my early sixties, I visited Montpellier. I landed in Paris took the train to Montpellier. On my way back home I stayed a week in Paris, I did the Louvre, walked half way up the Eiffel Tower, and continued to the top via the elevator; visited some other tourist attractions, etc. When I was in the South of France, I was fantasizing about moving there. (I then got that bug out of my system). After spending three weeks in Portugal I was making plans to spend most of the Canadian winters in Portugal; then Covid happened. As a solo traveller, I have done a fair bit of traveling across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa but always wanted to stay for longer periods in one country. I will be 70 in a few weeks and felt rob of some good travel years due to Covid. Your Vlog is my renewed inspiration that at 70 years one can still follow through with big and bold dreams.

Hi Janice! You are inspiring to make up my mind to move to France! I live near Atlanta, Georgia now with 4 pets :) I am planning a long time to move, maybe within 10 years… Meanwhile I will study French very hard and save money. About 14 years ago I had lived in Paris for 10 months which I loved so much…

Hi, Janice!👋🏼 You are tremendously inspiring! Congrats on celebrating your second anniversary of moving to France!🥂🥳 New subbie here!😀 I don't know why KZbin's algorithms took this long to recommend your wonderful channel -- but I'm grateful that I know about it. I learned about your channel tonight and love it! I'm binge-watching your videos. No offense to "Emily in Paris" (I'm not in that demographic anyhoo), but JaniceInFrance is much more my speed!😄 It has long been a dream of mine to move to a small town/village in Normandy. Like you, I can't tolerate hot weather. I'm speaking French much better after 17 years of serious study and practice with French speakers. Of course, it's harder for me to understand when someome is speaking French quickly. But, heck, I have trouble understanding when people speak English quickly.😂 I never studied French formally. I had had plans of enrolling in classes with Alliance Française -- I got lazy. However, I traveled to France, staying in Paris and taking a lovely day trip to a small village southwest of Paris (Chartres). After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2021, I was terrified to fly. That fear lasted a very long time. In the early aughts I began visiting Québec province and fell in love with many aspects of French Canadian culture. I met many people there -- some who are now longtime dear friends -- and a few of them discussed with me how awesome it was when French citizens emigrated to Québec after falling in love during previous vacations! Learning later in life that I have distant French ancestry totally made sense to me. Of course, having that DNA and being raised in French culture are quite different. All of this to say: those of us who dream to live in France -- and those who actualize it into reality -- have various reasons for desiring that, but we all sense the attraction. For me now, as in my 30s, it's the social customs, the freedom to express myself creatively ... Janice, congratulations again on your second anniversary of moving to France! Santé!🍾🎉🎈🫶🏼

Thank you so very much. Your words were so inspiring. I also appreciate that you took the time to tell me something about you. I love to know about my followers because it’s important for me to know the people that follow me what they want in future videos. There are many lovely, lovely KZbinrs that go all Paris to show you the food that show you this and that’s just not me but I certainly am glad we have them. Now I’m ashamed because I haven’t even really put huge effort. I mean I take the lessons, and I know some words, but I really need someone that is French-speaking to practice with. You have encouraged me to do that. Thank you so very much for writing to me.

DITTO...Below..turning 70 in August and since retiring, post 2 knee replacements, back surgery and COVID...I'm ready to start living my life. Your video's could not have come at a better time. I've been to France once and loved a village named UZES and have dreamed of returning for a long visit, but have put off travel, mainly because of COVID. After seeing your video's and researching travel to Paris, I realize how safe it can be with Europe's NO NONSENSE travel requirements. Thanks for the video's !
