Wow! My house cleaners got the igniter wet today and it wouldn't stop clicking. They came and got me to see if I could figure it out. The gas was working fine, as we lit the burner with a match, but the clicking continued. I told them to look underneath the cook top for an electric plug. They did not realize that the igniter was running on electricity and wanted to turn the gas off. So after the electric source to the cook top was disconnected, I asked them to just leave it open and let everything dry off. It's been about an hour now, and I think it will work again. Thanks for the perfect video!!

I will try the cleaning trick but my clicking comes with a secondary problem. The Miele stovetop lights on the first click or two. When I start using the stove - placing a pot or pan over the flame - I lose the flame completely and the clicking starts. I have to try again, and again. There are two large burners where this is a constant problem. I can't use them because the flame goes out and the clicking alerts me to the fact that there is no longer gas to those burners. Any thoughts?

Mines ticks but I fixed it differently. Mines has a burner ring where there are tiny holes all throughout where the flame would form. I noticed that my flame pattern becomes different and the stove would tick non stop unless I lower the gas. I fixed it by cleaning each of the holes. the only tool I found that can do this is a carburator jet cleaner (amazon). These are tiny rods that would clear all the dirt and build up within the tiny holes. Once cleared, my flame pattern is normal and no more ticking. I suspected that the over the years, dirt build up within the holes and reduced the amount of gas passing through the holes. As a result, it is like a dirty fuel injector in your car where you lose power due to less fuel getting in the engine.....

Another cause is the jet in the center of the eye can be clogged. If enough gas doesn't come out of it and the flame not reach the little pointy thing, the stove attempts to relight....causing the sparking click. I had to remove the jet, ream it clean with a sewing needle (very tiny hole) and re-install to get mine to stop. You'll see this happen more when the gas burner is turned to low/simmer.

It's not always the obvious... My 2 year old Stoves gas hob started clicking incessantly. Like you and countless others, I assumed it was an igniter or gas supply fault. I spent an hour or two faffing about with cotton buds, Isoclean (Isopropanol cleaning fluid), kitchen roll, hairdryer, etc., but all to no avail. Stoves, the manufacturer, said they could send an engineer to fix the fault for £140. Being really mean (!!!) I scoured the Web and came across another possible cause. I removed the actual control knobs to inspect them and immediately spotted one with a 3mm glob of greasy gunge, presumably accumulated gradually during regular cleaning. 10 seconds later, after a scrape with a pointy thing… SORTED. Incidentally, I have no idea why this could have been responsible.

Ignacio Chavez Thanks for watching & we appreciate you reaching out to us. By chance, did you or someone else clean your cooktop with a cleaning solution? It’s very possible that it’s as simple as the igniters still having a slight bit of cleaning liquid on them allowing electricity to trigger ignitor. The upper part of the burner lifted off; the lower part was secured by a large brass nut. I removed the nut, and all pieces of the burner, and I tried cleaning as suggested. No luck. I believe that there is some sort of heat- or flame-sensing device that isn't working. I even tried holding a flame next to the sparker to try to "inspire" it to shut off, but no luck. How does the system sense a flame? Where is the sensor located? sorry for my ignorant questions.
@DIYwithMichaelBorders7 жыл бұрын
dynmodel.com Thanks for checking out the video. Great question...I've the knob is turned to on...the system begins moving natural gas through the line. It's also sending a fraction of electricity through the line. At the end of the line is the igniter...which contains a gap. The electricity travels past the small gap and makes contact with the burner. This ever-so-small gap created a spark...just sufficient enough to light the burners once contact with the gas occurs. In my case, my gap/igniter tips were extremely dirty and failing. Please Subscribe to the channel that would be awesome thanks again 😀👍
@DIYwithMichaelBorders7 жыл бұрын
dynmodel.com In addition, the electronic module located on the underside of the knobs is the true mother board of the system. These modules fail and will cause the inefficient performance of the system. Don't forget to subscribe 😎

@DIYwithMichaelBorders5 жыл бұрын
Susan Butler Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. It is very possible that moisture has gotten into the small edges of the igniters. My burner started flickering (electric spark ⚡️ during cleaning. ). Turned the power off and it stopped. Turned power back on and it started back up. Turned burner on to maybe dry out any moisture and it’s still doing the same thing. Any suggestions

Thanks for watching. You may need to let it sit overnight and air dry fully and try it in the morning. If that doesn’t work, onto the next step. Try cleaning your ignition that is clicking. Below is a link that will help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJLMlYaugL17a6c You may have a faulty ignition. Below is a link to a video that shows you how to replace a clicking ignition. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pousmH-prbecedU It’s also possible that you have a faulty spark module. Below is a link to a video that talks more about this and shows you how to replace it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYaqf5mOiJxkl6M Let’s start there. Keep us posted. 😎👍

My cleaning lady left, and about an hour later the burner just started clicking. No one was near it, no one was cooking....it just started clicking. The stove top is fairly new and no grease around the burner or the igniter.

Thanks for the video...i have a different type of problem...Whirlpool 5 burner gas stove...can't turn the stove down really low (which means turning the knob in the clockwise direction) without going into the ignite position and that damn clicking noise. There is a low position in the normal extreme anti-clockwise turn of the knob but its not low enough. So I end up plugging out the stove and using other means to light up so that I can have full use of the knobs in adjusting the flame. Is there any fix for this problem?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders7 жыл бұрын
Clarke, thanks for checking out the video and sharing your comment and experience. My belief is that its your regulator beginning to fault. Reason being...its the only part between the gas line and the burner. At any point the regulator begins to fault, you will see such symptoms. Keep me posted. Brand new stove, out of the box and the clicking is happening. It just randomly clicks (1x) every 10-15 minutes. The service technician is coming in a few days (since it's under warranty), but thought I would check with you while I wait. :)
@DIYwithMichaelBorders6 жыл бұрын
Tim Downey Thanks for watching Tim...a clicking stove is definitely annoying...especially if it’s Brand New like yours! Let’s get this figured out! A few things come to mind! 1. In the event that you live in an area with a very high moisture/humidity content in the air and you have your windows open, it’s possible that the heavy humid air is causing your new igniters to think it has a closed circuit because of the thick air...causing it to click as if it’s dirty & you have used the stove for a few years 😲... 2. Spark Module: your spark module is in charge of regulating the proper spark to each burner and igniter...it’s possible that you have a faulty module right from the get go...not cool 😆 3. Spark Ignition Switch: The switch regulates igniters circuit for proper use. It’s possible that your brand new part is faulty. Let’s start there...now we have a few things to think about before the Technician pays you a visit! Keep us posted! Hi! Thanks for the video. What if it's the oven clicking, and not the stove top?
@tiadeshazor46507 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a gas oven. Sometimes I turn it on and it won't make a noise until a few minutes, and then it begins to click. Sometimes I turn it off and it continues to click for quite some time afterward. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
@DIYwithMichaelBorders7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick reply. I ran into the exact same issue a few years back. Clicking even after oven turned off. Over the years, the igniters corrode, rust, and build lots of crud on them. Kinda gross right..LOL... Believe it or not, this can hold a tiny portion of electricity at the igniter causing the constant click. I cleaned the internal igniters like you wouldn't believe....it fixed the problem and I now clean then once every "6 ish" months.

In my case I spilled water that made it under the knobs and apparently got water in one of the sensors surrounding the valve. After cleaning everything and trying to dry it out it would still spark randomly now and again. I finally had to replace the wiring harness that connects the four valves to the ignitor control module. It was not overly complicated and cost me a little over $40. problem solved.

Nice video. I also tried to change the ignitor, however, the electric wire dropped inside. Do you have a suggestion to retrieve the wire out?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & we have done that before as well. If your electrical connection point is magnetic, you can use one of those extendable magnetic retrieving pens from your local AutoZone...they cost less than $5.00 If that doesn’t work, you can apply some gorilla tape to a screwdriver and insert the screwdriver into the hole in hopes of attaching it to the connection and pulling it back up. 😎👍🔧🔩

My stove today after we cleaned it started clicking over and over without us touching it and right now it won't stop and we are kinda worried because we don't know what to do. We opened the top and looked at the ignitors and we cleaned it and it stopped for a while and then now an hour later it kept going and it still won't stop. We unplugged the stove and it isn't clicking anymore but we are worried about if there is still gas being released? Any answers on this?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders5 жыл бұрын
Pewdiebro1btr2 Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. This is more common than you think. It’s very possible that there is still cleaning solution on the igniters & it’s continuing to make a closed electrical current. We recommend allowing a few hours to pass which will allow the solution to dry / evaporate. Next, plug cooktop back in & fire up all burners & allow all burners to run for 10-15 minutes. This will allow the heat from the flaming burners to help continue the drying & evaporating process of any remaining cleaning solution. Let’s start there! Keep us posted! Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your KZbin notification Bell 🛎 that would be awesome thanks again! 😎👍🔧🔩

Or... if you have your 15year old kid clean it with 20 gallons of water, you might find all 4 burners clicking also... In this case you need to disconnect electrical, remove the top, disassemble each of the 4 plastic solenoids attached to the gas valves handles, clean them and dry them. Put it back together, it will work like new... Ask me how I know:)

2 front burners click 2 back burners dont Cleaned two front burners still womt stop? Any ideas?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders4 жыл бұрын
Rich Baldy Thanks for watching, if anything was spilled on the igniters, we recommend allowing 24 to 48 hours to pass prior to taking anything apart. This will allow any moisture to evaporate or dry. Next, if parts need to be replaced, & since you mentioned two igniters are clicking, it’s possible that you have a faulty Spark Module. Below are a two links to videos. 1. Replace Igniters kzbin.info/www/bejne/pousmH-prbecedU 2. Replace Spark Module kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYaqf5mOiJxkl6M Keep us posted. Why didn't you SHOW us the constantly sparking condition? One of the problems I'm having with these "easy fix" videos for constantly-sparking stoves is that with the burner knobs off there is no power to the spark module in the first place. Therefore you can short or dirty the spark electrodes all you want and they shouldn't spark since they are outputs only, and now have no input power to them. I just verified this on my own gas range. The handful of other videos that I've seen are like yours where we don't get to see the problem condition -- for some reason! An easy check is just to remove the burner knobs' rotary-switch input from the spark module; if it continues to spark it is the module, if it stops then it is one or more of the knob rotary switches. I have, however, noted that there are some who claim that your method worked. Is it possible that it was because they unplugged and then repowered the oven after the cleaning thereby resetting a module that utilized electronic support, and mistakenly attributed it to the cleaning?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders7 жыл бұрын
Nick Rossi Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your information. That's great info and might be helpful to others watching. As many things out there, there may be a few ways to tackle the issue. My burner was hit or miss as far as the sparking...however once it started...it didn't stop haha. I have had any random sparking since I cleaned parts. The module is what most people run into while figuring out the issue. I guess I got off easy. Please Subscribe to the channel that would be awesome thanks again 😀👍

Thanks for your reply and I meant no offense. Interestingly, I had a service call today about a stove that sparked continuously (no coincidence. It was the reason I tuned in to your video last night). However, this problem was different than any I’ve seen anywhere. I noticed that when the second burner-knob was turned slightly to the ON position, the constant sparking would then stop. When I inspected the switch on that control knob, it was found to have a missing tab so that it wouldn’t properly engage on the knob shaft, and resulting in a lot of “play”. Obviously, no amount of cleaning would have been time well-spent. Repair videos can be a big help to people, but I sometimes see customers who have spent a great deal of time and expense pursuing the first “solution” they see -- to no avail. Seeing the larger picture is obviously of great benefit, and I’m just putting this out there just to illustrate that there is not just one cause for a particular malfunction. Thank You DIY

Thats very cool. Thanks for the reply. Thats interesting and will definitely help the additional viewers...thats if they take the time to read the comments. yes. my top does not have any clever way to stop the spark. it sparks when the flame control is moved off the stop and stops when you advance the flame control further anticlockwise. purely manual. so to continue clicking, one of the ignition switches must remain closed all the time.
