Yeah its definitely not just stress! I often get it when I am not stressed at all. Ill eat my dinner and have to run to the toilet :/ But stress can be a definite trigger

My problem is that I get stressed when I think that I have to go to somewhere with no direct access to a toilet :( soo annoying because I then want to stay home in stead of going out...

Such a hard situation to be in 😣Do you think something like CBT would help, if it's such strong response to the idea of going out? xx

I’ve very recently been diagnosed with IBS and it’s made life so much harder because I now work after being unemployed since 2019 so the routine I was in while unemployed has completely changed. I do have an IBS ally though, a colleague at work has it too so I can talk to her about it if I’m at work and it flares. My nan who I live with also has it as well as my mum and my aunt so that’s handy. But the stomach cramps and the nausea are the worst!!! I am changing my diet to try and help it as much as I can. I’ve also found that now I’m more active, it helps things to move along more rather than just sitting there. But for me there’s no in between, I’m either constipated or I can’t stop going. I get cramping, nausea but then afterwards it stops. I do know two of my triggers are milk and beef mince! I’m gutted about milk because I used to drink a glass every day but now it sends me running for the bathroom! I also find laying on my stomach helps the cramping and nausea too but I need a solution for work as well.

Wow just found your channel and feel like I share so many similarities in my lifestyle to you - I am a vegan with IBS as well as suffering from anxiety. My ways of coping with stress are: 10 min morning meditation/positive affirmations + stretching + writing down one thing I am looking forward to + something I am grateful for from the day before; breathing techniques (best is count of 5 in, hold for 5, out for 8-10)/walks/getting outdoors throughout the day; no devices 1 1/2 hrs before bed (the aim at least!); nighttime stretch, hot eye mask (I have dry eyes but I recommend for everyone so relaxing!), gratitude/general journaling to finish the day. :) also changing who you follow on social media to be positive, interesting and uplifting helps so so much in the long run x

This is probably one of the most helpful videos I found so far - at least for me. Simple, clear, to the point. Really good advice, I feel like I need to write it down :)

Hi Carrie, I have never heard of Binaural Beats before, this is so cool to know. Thanks so much, this video is super helpful. I love a hot bath. It gets even more relaxing when I turn off the lights in the bathroom and just have a candle on, it makes such a big difference. I just have to be careful not to fall asleep in the bath :)

Carrie I am so happy that I found your channel! I have been dealing with IBS for years and have tried everything to get on track. I also live a rather stressful life (as many of us do), and I enjoyed your suggestions for stress management in this video. All the best, and I look forward to more videos from your channel

great tips! I agree with the list making, baths, and walking. those definitely work for me. also helpful for me if I don't have access to those is to put on a podcast I enjoy and do some menial tasks like folding or reorganizing so I can get a quick sense of accomplishment (even if it's only a small one) while having a soothing distraction in the form of people talking to me without requiring me to talk back

You are an angel, thanks! I do not have a bath so I have to go for the shower, and I usually add some peaceful piano music and I light a scented candle. After the bath, I use my favourite face mask and let it rest on my face while I read a book with a hot-water bag on my tummy.

That sounds so relaxing 🙌 I must admit, we had to move recently and not having a bath tub was a deal breaker for me. I feel like I need them to survive now 😅 Xx

I've watched a few of your videos now and I'm finally feeling like I've found someone helpful to listen too! I've been told since I was 18 (I'm 25 now) that I have IBS due to stress. It's led to me being hospitalised twice with zero answers. I'm currently going through more blood tests etc but they always come up fine ... which sucks. I've been looking into the FODMAP diet and I just don't know where to start! Thank you for being so informative and helpful! Xx

I’m new to your channel and haven’t even got past 20 seconds of your video and the sentence ‘’Stress is the cause of our IBS’ is really offensive’ really resonates with me. I was told by a dietitian that stress was the cause of my IBS and it made me feel so humiliated that I didn’t go to any follow up consultations. For someone that I have come to to help me to only tell me that the pain, the sleepless nights, the depression and loneliness I go through is just because of stress was a really big blow to any motivation I had to get better. I was really disappointed. And then I also felt stupid to be feeling offended by what they said to me lol. I don’t know what I’m doing in all honesty but this bout of symptoms has made me realise I can’t do this anymore and that I need to try harder because even though there are many IBS sufferers all around the world, we are essentially alone because this is an illness that causes isolation, at least for me it does. But people like you who put videos out to help/guide us through tips and recipes is such an amazing thing - you could and probably are saving someone’s life. My IBS symptoms have taken me to the edge and many times I feel like giving up completely but you and people like you show that it can be done and I just wanted to thank you. Xx *Now let me continue with the video. 😊

Uh see that's exactly why I made the "it's not just stress" ranty video! No one should be made to feel a condition like this is somehow their fault. And I totally get what you mean about it being isolating 😔 Having this community to reach out too when I've had a bad flare up has helped so much. Still hurts but there are people that understand 😌 I hope the low fodmap diet helps you as much as it's helped me xxx

Thanks for this video, I'd never heard of binaural beats but it sounds like something I could really use! The thing I find helps me the most is to do a diary entry - just writing about everything stressing me and what I've been thinking, it really clears my mind and helps me process everything. Also making to-do lists or plans of action are really helpful as they give me some direction. I was wondering where you find out all your information on what's good for the body and how the body works? For example with the working memory you talked about in this video, I'd like to be able to understand more of the science behind what happens in our bodies as I find it helpful to know more about what's happening and why! Thanks :)

I'm almost addicted to binaural beats now, I even listen to it at work when I really need to focus 😅 I did a BSc and MSc in biomedical science and have always enjoyed reading around the subject so I've soaked up a lot over the years. There some really good youtube channels nowadays with go intros to physiology and neurology and then I think pop-science books can be a amazing for giving more meaning to the research on areas you're interested in xx

Can IBS just ‘happen’? I’ve never experienced IBS symptoms before but in the last 6 months, I’m finding that I’m very reactive to a lot of foods, consistently bloated (I look like I’m pregnant) and would say I have been experiencing IBS-D. I’ve seen multiple doctors but they haven’t offered any explanations or solutions 😔 I’ve considered the whole30 but feel like I wouldn’t be eating much as a plant based eater.

It sort of can, in that the exact causes aren't often known (yet). Has no one suggested the low FODMAP diet to you? It's literally the only clinically proven way to manage IBS. If you're diagnosed with IBS I would speak to your Dr about the low fodmap diet, it's completely transformed my health x
