My struggles during the initial phase of PhD at IISc Bangalore, and how I managed them!

Hi Navjot. I'm an MS(Research) student at IIT Indore (recently joined). I enjoyed this talk and found it relative to my personal experience too. I also want you to share your research experience at IISc. Since I joined the institute I have started with my research work and reviewed some research papers within it 20% of them found helpful to me and I can feel now how things are going to be stressful further! I would like to listen to your story and ideas to deal with such a circumstance.

Great video. Its always more apppropriate to call PhDs as Scholars/Researchers instead of students. Scholar sounds professional and more respectful..I dont und why the academic env views PhD as students, its really disrespectful!!...PhD is not some Msc degree where one attends classes, gives exams and gets the degree after passing, in PhD we work for min of 8-9 hrs and with a stipend, and give reports to our Supervisors, its as good as a job only. Relationship between a Scholar and a supervisor should be like a boss and employee not like a teacher and student. Then only the research community will grow and there will be less case of harassment faced by PhD scholars

Hi Di , I gave gate in ChemE 2020 (Final year of Btech) and got a rank of 886(which wasn't good enough for PSU ofcourse) , so I decided to take a drop and prepare once again , but while preparation I got inclined towards the beauty of subject . Now I'm deciding to do a masters from IIT after giving gate in 2021, so that I can see my inclination towards research . If in case I find myself wanna be PhD scholar , would it affect my profile for a PhD from abroad ( From US) , due to this gap year I have taken . Also thanks for this channel , I'm glad I'm one of your earliest subscribers before this channel grow exponentially :')

Regarding your question, if you think that you might develop interest in PhD over time I would suggest to apply for a project associate position or internship in a good lab, along with prepping for exam. It will add research experience to your profile and also help with your PhD applications if you plan to make them later. Will be making a video on internship opportunities soon 🙂
