My Stumpy EVO Gets RideWrap, But Was It Worth It?

What is it like to wrap your bike in frame protection film? Today I find out as I wrap my 22 Stumpjumper EVO in the RideWrap Tailored kit. Overall, this process is known for testing people's patience as it can be time consuming as tedious, but does the final product do the job?
Also, apologies for the bad lighting in some shots!

Love that you did this on this bike. I have the exact same one! I used ride wrap because invis didn’t have size xl on the stumpy yet. I will say invis was a much cleaner and accurate install and I didn’t have any bubbles like I did on ride wrap. If I had to choose, I’d def go invis. I still have bubbles on this bike and they bother me like crazy. Lastly I agree with you on the look. Yes it’s protected but it really doesn’t look as flat as the natural carbon does.

I would agree some of the cuts and design of the ridewrap are not great but I was able to line things up with a few of my own cuts and also got 95% of the bubbles out so seemed to be fine. Haven't heard as much about the the invis but I'm sure does the job as well.

I used Invis on my Giant. The fit was very clean, and I can't tell it's on unless I look at the ends, and I really have to look hard. I did my lowers and cranks, too. I've crashed too many times to count and and nothing has penetrated to the frame. I just order an EVO Pro with a Ride Wrap full bike kit. Ant scratches in white are less noticeable but a wrap really helps keep the frame from getting scratched up.

I have the sworks frame (same shit) and ordered it like that so I never saw it completely raw. Def with it. You did a great job. Seems like a pain in the ass. I prob will always pay to get mine done bc I’d lose my mind doubt that

Sweet. I have the '23 RS version. I think I may do my rear triangle. I already scratched it up from a couple falls at Trestle. I may leave the raw carbon as is though. Thanks for the insight.

Good job! Putting ride wrap on does not make the bike look worse nor does it cover up scratches. I've installed ridewrap on 6 bikes and it is a time taking project. Use of a hair drier helps get rid of bubbles on installation. I have had shops comment on how good my installs look and have asked me if I wanted a job lol.

Glad you can install this stuff, you should get a job installing it! Nobody wants that job so go for it, we need more like you. And as far as covering up scratches. I have a few it sure did hide, maybe it's just my finish I got lucky with. As far as looks, pretty much no one is going to say it looks better with the wrap, unless you bought an ugly bike to begin with.

It is very hard to evaluate this particular frame given the finish of it, and the lighting and everything. It looks very weird, but I'm sure it does not come across that way when standing right infront of it. Anyhow, wrapping any frame is worth it because it is minimum effort for something that will protect a lot. I also recommend wrapping the crankarms as well(just get some generic wrap sheets off homedepot or similar and just cut out with a scissor.) It is great to just head out for a ride and not having to worry all too much if you scratch a bit here and there because it will happen even how paranoid you are. With your bike wrapped it really takes off a lot of the sting, and one application last a long time too.

It definitely doesn't look weird in person, especially if you like matte finishes, but that's just my opinion. This particular finish was better stock though.

There is a video with a guy using baby soap and then a bottle of alcohol. I used his method and it was worked really good.

I wrapped my new Evo carbon arctic blue with glossy Ride Wrap a couple weeks ago. It went ok, but I wish I'd had better lighting from the start because after doing the job in the kitchen, I moved the bike to another room and could suddenly see loads of little bubbles. I was able to work them out with some determination. The downtube was by far the hardest piece - did the existing 3M protection create a long strip of liquid either side for you too? This was impossible to fix. Was worth it though I think, the glossy finish came up really well. Enjoy your bike!

I learned quickly that I needed lots of light for the job as you had discovered as well. My feelings on the downtube piece are the same, it was by far the hardest piece and the worst looking in the end of the lot due to the sheer size and importance. My stumpy, as your does, has that downtube protection already which left unfixable air gaps along the edges. I did notice with time, the wrap "cured" and most air bubbles and gaps nearly disappeared so i feel the finished result is worth it mainly for function over visuals. Also, if you have any air bubbles left, I found it was ok to pop them with a small needle and the resulting hole was barely visible on my bike's finish.

totally agree, I hung extra lights up and still had bubbles and still saw some bubbles when I went outside. Not a huge issue but I know they are there. Sure makes bike easy to clean

I just got myself a evo the other day….. not sure if you noticed but the evo comes with a down tube protective film already installed. Did you remove it or just lay the ride wrap over the top? My shop said I could just install the wrap over the top but it would’ve hard to believe it wouldn’t cause air bubble issues…. Lmk what you think!

Never mind. Just read the rest of your comments and got my answer. Guess I’ll just be laying it over the top for double protection!

Yep, left mine on! nothing wrong with double protection, although it may not look as clean. I believe they recommend you keep any existing film on.

So far I haven't. Wonder if it has something to do with temperature or how the bike is stored

Dope bike. You could've buffed out a few of the scratches before you wrapped it .bottom bracket off but, not the chain ? Come on man...🤔

Thanks! I was servicing my bottom bracket at the time as well, and was able to easily work around the chain.

Ridewrap is overpriced and a pain to apply. Don't waste your money on Ridewrap. Absolutely garbage.

Wouldn't say it's garbage but it is overpriced and the worst to put on. Probably will never ride wrap another bike, just beat on it and tear er up, not meant to be pretty.
