Seriously sad to hear about the fire, its crazy how quick things can happen. After I saw it on your insta, I actually removed my dual battery system, solar set-up and spot lights, along with that I removed some excess wires. I'm in the process of simplifying my car, the less you have/carry the less things can break. Cant wait to see the new project though!
@eldorado56504 жыл бұрын
Good decision, mate. The worrying thing there is the build quality of these aftermarket components. I know somebody who is in the product design field and he is just shocked by how much poorly-made products are on the shelves. Those poorly-made products are usually the weakest links when installed in well-engineered products like Japanese vehicles. By the way, I watch your channel, too. Yours is also a good SG Forester. Cheers.

Thanks for your support! While it was a sad event for my foz, the new XT is fantastic and many of the parts will be transferred across so the build can live on. Unfortunately my state was just put into a 6 week lockdown so no more adventures for a while but plenty of time to build up the XT!

The fuse was the secondary problem. I have come to find that there are cheaply manufactured fuses that aren’t really fuses. They have flooded the online market. Likely you are correct and there was a short on the map light circuit that blew the first fuse. The replacement 15amp fuse made the circuit go live but allowed more than 15 amps to flow. This caused the plastic to melt from the wiring and start the fire. In no way was this your fault and now I may have to make a video on fire starting fuses. So sorry this happened to your Foz man. If you’re considering on parting out, please let me know. 👍
@ignitionoffroad50284 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the insight. At this stage I will not be parting out the car.

I agree fully. I am usually conscious of the quality of the electrical components I put in my vehicles. Shops and stores, online or physical, are usually flooded with poorly-made ones.

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss Mitre. What a blow. Knowing you as I do, via KZbin and FB, etc, I reckon you have moved on already and this is the greatest way to deal with your loss at this time. Turn it into a positive. You've already told us you want more grunt and a blower is far less complicated than a turbo. So I expect to see you transfer everything into another SG with a fresh motor and forged pistons. A single blow set up without the turbo... but then again it wouldn't surprise me if you retained a small turbo for grunt low down for the he'll of it. Either way, I'm looking forward to you big reveal. While you are transferring your Rally Armor mudflaps, can you trace one side and give me the dims please? I've got a 600 wide roll of 3mm rubber and I'd like to make some of my own. A good budget measure. Keep up your great inspirational work Mitre. I love it all! =))

Yo Mitre, my SG is up to 208k and I'm thinking about not investing in the car. I fear the head gaskets letting go. My 2", 2.5" lift kit is on it's way too. As such..., I'm going to sell my n/a and get an SG XT. Funny that. =))

Sorry to hear about your subie, i have the same year and model and have watched you change things around to a nice state of readiness. I had installed some DRLs using the circuit [unused in oz] behind the lights that controls the headlight adjusting electronics perfect for DRLs as it doesnt get power after the headlights are on, anyway it started popping fuses and it turned out to be one of the ground connectors on the relay was very very loose so was pulling a lot of current. Maybe something similar happened to yours up in the sunroof wiring? Anyway I am too old now to fiddle too much with mine but yours was an inspiration of what i could do if i wanted to travel around oz with it and do some mild off roading. good luck with the next one.

the reason of fire was faulty fuse in the relay?

@ignitionoffroad50284 жыл бұрын
LED’s which I had been running in there for 4 years without any issues
@eldorado56504 жыл бұрын
@@ignitionoffroad5028 Yes, there are so many of those that cause headaches when they fail. When I inspected what I used to place in mine, some of the solders are just poorly-done, prompting me to revert back to high quality incandescents. LEDs in Japan are well-made but we don't have access to those. At least, we do have access to Hella ones. Those are really good quality and can be bought here in the Southern Hemisphere. Most importantly, though, the fuse failed you. I agree with one viewer that our markets are flooded with poorly-made aftermarket electrical components. We need better regulations regarding the sale of those but I guess it will be hard to police/inspect. Anyway, stay safe and I look forward to your next project! Cheers.
