1:00 Actually, it’s a very controlled burn. They do this to stop wildfires from spreading by selectively burning the dry grass. They way they do it prevents the controller fire from spreading itself, and so they are basically creating a barrier that burns the wildfire’s fuel. Fire can’t spread if there is nothing for it to spread to

Yes but the method was questionable, I’d say he’s not a fire fighter and just a land owner who does this. I’m on a fire department and have done controlled brush burns. I don’t think they even had other people there (usually you have a ton of people in case the fire gets REALLY hungry)

To give a brief explanation about the fire thing. They are either razing a field or doing a controlled burn to rejuvenate the surrounding plant life (and subsequently wildlife). It looks more like a razing though because it seems a bit hap hazard. Farmers burn there extra crops because it makes the soul more fertile for planting new crops. Here's the wikipidia answer: Slash-and-burn agriculture is a farming method that involves the cutting and burning of plants in a forest or woodland to create a field called a swidden. The method begins by cutting down the trees and woody plants in an area. The downed vegetation, or "slash", is then left to dry, usually right before the rainiest part of the year. Then, the biomass is burned, resulting in a nutrient-rich layer of ash which makes the soil fertile, as well as temporarily eliminating weed and pest species. After about three to five years, the plot's productivity decreases due to depletion of nutrients along with weed and pest invasion, causing the farmers to abandon the field and move to a new area. The time it takes for a swidden to recover depends on the location and can be as little as five years to more than twenty years, after which the plot can be slashed and burned again, repeating the cycle.
