Great video Kevin - I've been meaning to make a video similar of my progress. I am 59 yo, I'm an intermediate/advanced snowboarder, and I have owned several different esk8 boards. Including a monster All Terrain 4x4 Ecomobl M24. I love the Summerboard. I've owned mine for about 4 months, it exactly as you said, somewhat of a learning curve, but incredibly rewarding when you get the balance down, and begin linking slide turns. I love how you can manipulate the board to turn on a dime, 180 to switch, and back, and how much of the mechanics of riding it translate to snowboarding. Messing with the ESC control app gives you infinite access to how the motor accelerates and brakes. Also switching out wheels (softer/harder) and bushings (softer/harder) changes the feel of the slide and carve depending on the surfaces you frequently ride.

Hello Kevin, i started snowboarding at the age of 38 in Greece, it completely change my world in many levels. Pandemic hit us hard on the middle of the season in 2020 and no season at all 2021. u can imagine how i felt when you introduced me to summerboard , thanks dude. that being said it is a high risk investment from my part due to the overseas delivery and customs, but put that aside, i am reluctant to buy it , coz it reported to have micro macro issues that the customer support service of summerboard fixes, i cant afford to have the remote not working and have to send it back all the way to usa. Can u please update us in the maintance department. how does ur summerboard runs , if u faced any issues? i also saw a scracth on the battery ?? what happened. i will value your update on those stuff and if after a few months u deem it ok i might seriously thought about getting one.. we have a lot of sun here ... cheers thanks for the uploads

Their customer service has been amazingly helpful. No major issues, had a belt that was a little loose, and I had to try to adjust it, I ended up ruining a screw that holds the bracket that holds the belt. They sent me out a set of screws no problem. The scratch on the battery - I believe every one of these will have that. All it takes is to ride it without the sky hooks installed (they way they tell you to first learn) and you make a bail where the board turns over and voila' the damn battery gets scratched. with the hooks installed it's much harder to scratch the battery. I'm sure that's how Kevin scratched his.

Any pro tips like accelerating through slides to maintain control and stability? These videos are great I've wanted a summerboard for months it's just so expensive lol
@razrfish
@razrfish 3 жыл бұрын
It's important to maintain balance over the board, knees bent, and good athletic position helps, much like snowboarding, you don't want to lean too much, and let the board slide out. Like snowboarding, you want to dig your toes, or heels in, but with this you have more 'ankle' flex movement to pull that off (no boots), but its also possible to do it just like you snowboard, like sitting into your heel side and pressing your front knee down into your toe side. You can vary the amount of pressure you're putting on the outrigger wheels to press more into a carve versus a slide. You can vary the speed control to extend the slide or slice to a stop by reducing speed. Being a larger rider 210lbs, I put harder orangatang nipple yellow bushings in mine to allow me to put more pressure on the edging, and not bottom out the wheel into the underside of the board. The trucks do work to enhance turning when your carving more than sliding. If you're interested, I bought 2 of these one for me, and one for my daughter who took up snowboarding. I've tricked mine out with the sky hook covers, yellow seismic landslide wheels, Kveni Ceramic Bearings, and the yellow Orangatang nipple bushings. It's amazing! My daughter on the other hand, she fell the first day first hour of trying it, and quit. She said she didn't wanna fall on concrete. She'll stick to snow. So it's got like an hour or so use. Paid $1600 plus tax, and plus bought an extra set of slide wheels. Looking to get $1200 cash and will ship CONUSA have original box and such. Ping me if actually interested. razrfish at gmail dot com.

Yo Kevin, how does this board go with downhill riding? I'm not sure if you've tried yet so maybe a question better answered in the future. Since the freeboard (a non-electric summerboard essentially) is mostly a downhill type skateboard like snowboarding. I'm wondering if you'd just cut the power from the remote and let gravity take you down and you can adjust speed manually with the turns and slides?
@razrfish
@razrfish 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, works as you mention. You also use the remote to brake if you get going too fast. While you break the battery actually charges (like Tesla tech)

There is a remote that controls every aspect of the board when it comes to acceleration and braking. It also controlls speed caps, braking intensity, safety features, and probably some other awesome shit that doesn't immediately seem relevant or important at first thought. This being said, the remote has a command to brake using the electric motors on the board itself. In addition, I believe that it utilizes the concept of "regenerative braking". This concept describes the process of the hubs in your electric wheels producing a very small electrical current for the purpose of slightly charging/tending the battery while you are braking. This process is very similar to that of an alternator (which has the purpose of slowly charging and maintaining voltage in a vehicle's battery while the motor is running). Another more relevant or similar comparison would be that of a wind or water turbine. These turbines use the forces of nature to rotate an electric motor in the opposing direction of when it is being fed electricity. This causes the electric motor(s) to produce a small current of electricity in the direction of the power source, as opposed to the vehicles primary function, which draws electricity from the power source to spin the motors (wheels). The force of nature that is providing regenerative electricity in this circumstance is gravity, in combination with the forward momentum produced solely by the force of your leg and foot pushing the board to maintain forward motion, thus keeping the wheels spinning without utilizing any electricity at all. Gravity and muscle are the only two providers of Labor in this situation. BTW...... Don't quote me on the regenerative braking feature, but I'm 90% confident that's what I have read in regards to the brakes on the SBX. SIDE NOTE: This regenerative braking concept isn't unique to the SBX. Regenerative braking is very very common amongst almost every current ESK8 available 💯🤙. Hope this covers your question, plus some lol.

@BeCoolHaveFun nah not at all. I prefer my Backfire Ranger X3 for road and light dirt or my Propel X4S2 with full suspension. Both are awesome for carving. If you want to really work on your snowboarding,.the Summerboard is the best to perfect riding fakie/switch. Granted, after a summer of heavy esk8, i still have to adjust myself to my actual snowboard as esk8 is still different from snowboarding. My OneWheel is my least favorite board. I've had way too many random nose dives and wrecked myself one time really bad on dirt with small rocks. Took me a month to recover. Also the one wheel isn't fast enough for me to keep up with my sons in the pits at motocross tracks. I end up losing them in the crowd of other bikes and scooters on the way to gate starts.

Kevin is spot on - the summerboard is easier to ride with the sky hooks, than without. They really give you good leverage and you feel locked in and in control, to bail, I just practiced without moving jumping off in all different directions, I've only had a couple falls where I slid out, but none where I was stuck in the binding/hooks and wiped. Basically very easy to bail, just practice jumping off bringing your feet toward the middle.

So you have your main two drive wheels that provide the movement, would it make sense to tighten down the normal skateboard wheels to give you more of an edge type feeling? They should still spin, but with some restriction, like a brake.
@razrfish
@razrfish 3 жыл бұрын
I mentioned in response to another post - the edge wheels spin and slide, the trucks work like skateboard trucks, so when you press more on them (tilting the board like a normal skateboard) they enhance the 'carve' part of the turn versus the slide. The edge wheels and surface you're riding on depending on how rough or slick it is, and how hard your edge wheels are give you more or less 'sticky' in the slide or carve. I put a little softer wheel, and a faster bearing, and they feel great on texas roads as well as smooth paved parking lots and walkways. It's surprising how well the board does going over brick pavement or cobblestone, you can actually ride on most anything, not just on super smooth perfect asphalt roads.

How would this compare to the One Wheel?
@razrfish
@razrfish 3 жыл бұрын
A onewheel doesn't replicate the slide turn concept of a snowboard. You don't get the mechanics of snowboarding and the practice on a one wheel doesn't translate to snowboarding like a summerboard does.

Does anyone else feel like one of the wheels locks up for a second every now and then? It feels like about once every 10 minutes or so a wheel locks and skids for a second and it sounds just like when something goes under the wheel of a shopping cart only it happens with perfectly clean surfaces and nothing to go under the wheels. I'm thinking maybe I take too much weight off of the front wheel sometimes and it swivels sideways and then grabs traction again. It doesn't throw me but I bail out of instinct.

You can definitely tell he's not in the US. In the US some jerk would call the cops on him within five minutes of riding on that.

music comes in wayyyy too loud, it throws off the video. Just a small production comment. the music itself is okay but it should be background, you shouldn't even notice it unless you listen for it, not something that hits you in the face every time the presenter stops talking. It was irritating enough I almost shut the vid off a few times when it would come up, it's extremely jarring in my headset.
