In this video I'm in Vancouver testing out an electric skateboard that feel like snowboarding. The Summerboard has an extra set of electric wheels under the center of the deck that allowing it to slide and spin like a snowboard. This is my first day on the Summerboard and attempting to get the skills down to ride in comfortably. After a few hours I was able to ride in control and attempt a few sliding turns. If you have any questions about this board you can leave them in the comments. Also, stay tuned because I'll make a follow up video showing my progression. Thanks for watching!

I recently received my summerboard, did twice 1h without footholds, 1h with just the foothold mounts to find the good positioning and I will try with footholds at my next session. But I often exit the board toe side when I take an edge toe side, that scares me a lot with the foothold compared to bailing heel side... how do you manage to not fall and trip in those situations ? (toe side bailing)

I have a freeboard, which is the same setup as that thing just not motorized. The trick to it is not to try to ride it like a conventional skateboard or snowboard, it's a combination of the two. You turn it more by sliding the tail with it pivoting on the nose. You can carve with them but it's not the same as a snowboard. Think of the castor wheels as the bottom of the board and the wheels on the trucks as the edges. You can't really cave on your edges going very slow 😉

Good Video Kevin. I just got mine yesterday and it's nice to see someone else struggling too! Iv'e got about 3 hours in so far and I can carve sliding turns back and forth if the road is perfectly level and not bumpy but I can't go straight nearly as good as you can yet because I get overextended and can't bring the board back under me. It looks like you started off with the freshies on and it looks like your trucks are a lot looser than mine. My trucks don't flex at all when I bear down on them so I'm going to try loosening them up to see if it helps. Try the bindings! I bent my metal binding frames a little so that they would stick up at an angle that I prefer. I can't wait to see your next video

I freeborded (the original without motors) for 3 years before I ever set foot on a snowboard. First time snowboarding I was making high level snowboarders wonder how the hell I could just jump on one for the first time and go faster then them and do 360s with ease. They compliment each other. I actually prefer to freebord/summerboard over snowboarding, so i snowboard in the winter to practice for freebording.

@@yeti_riding5612 This is mainly a snowboarding channel that I've followed for years. I'm an older 50+ day snowboarder with premium snowboarding accessories and season passes lined up for next year. I have a decent snowboard quiver and am already looking at the 2022 catalogs. So if premium snowboards are $600-700 and splitboards are $850+, the opportunity cost for the $1600 summerboard is steep. On a snowboard, being attached means you can ditch a lot of speed before you bite it.

@@aaalllen I've found that you can go up to 25-29 depending on weight. You aren't locked into the board like you are on a snowboard so you can run it out or you would fall on the ground but it wouldn't be like pulling you into the ground like a snowboard does, if that makes sense. You can still ditch a ton of speed very quickly. Sounds like you're a real wilderness type, which is pretty awesome. For those of us, like me, who live in a city - the summer board is a godsend! I understand that this is a marketing thing, but the shills in the comments make it seem too contrived for the $1600 price point. "Feels like snowboarding" probably doesn't have the feel of snow. FWIW, it probably makes more sense to say that it's the same type of biomechanics to control a snowboard/freebord/summerboard.

@@Ghostyfrost9688 when you say that, its it more how you move? I can see that. If it's how the board moves as you cross a surface, is it concrete/asphalt/rough gravel vs snow as powder, packed pow, firm, or ice? Overall, I find the positive people as product shills. They came out too hard and fast to believe otherwise. Only until someone I've watched reguarly (SPC or other snowboarding YTers) learn and progress over videos, then I'll believe. Or SPC channel regulars that I recognize.

There is nothing that feels like snowboarding even close. Nothing can imitate the feel of riding powder or even the slopes. All surfskates, longboards, skateboards is still skateboarding. And it does not sit even close to what snowboarding is. And were are not even talking about how magical mountains are when covered in snow. So when you ride a longboard or a skateboard - take it and enjoy it for what it is.

100% agree with you. No question whatsoever. BUT, have you ever tried a onewheel? I am telling you from personal experience, it is unlike any other board with a wheel. It's the closest feeling to floating on powder you can get without going to the mountain. Extremely user friendly - takes WAY less time to learn compared to a summerboard, it's more intuitive (feels like you control the thing with your mind), AND ONE big wheel = you can go off-road, over little pebbles without face-planting... you can even ride it on sand! (wet, compacted sand, that is)

You don't know what your talking about. I've been freebording for 7 years and its exactly like snowboarding. In fact I didn't even step on a snowboard untill I learned to freebord, and the first day I went snowboarding I hopped right on looked like i've been doing it for decades. I snowboard and freebord/summerboard all year long, I actually snowboard to practice for freebording as I can't wait till summer to get back to the awsome trips we have all over the world.
