I had nothing left. I always dumped the old for the new. Dumb. Started over 7 years ago. Got everything I had that I liked back and more. 508 is the current count. But really the money I could have saved 😣

When I would get a new system, I'd give away my older system and games to the neighbor kids or some in the family never thinking about having a collection later. Sure, it's a bit bitter, but I'd do it all over again just because of how happy it made them.

That's how it should be man. People who get hung up on collecting these are silly. They are way overpriced. You can play the game through digital for nothing. It's just a memory of it. Which you can't hold forever. Don't get hung up on the past.

Fantastic video. My favorite console ever! I feel your pain when you talk about selling your collection. Probably the greatest regret of my life was, before heading off to college in 1999, selling my nearly 300 game NES collection and my 100 game SNES collection to this local guy for $1200 dollars. At the time, it seemed like the grown up thing to do. Hell, it paid for all my books practically that first year of college. But damn, that money is long spent and gone but the regret will forever remain. Never sell your games people! You will miss them one day, even the crappy ones, for what they remind you of the times in your life. To this day, it's why I never even trade in my games.

I can never get over Secret of Mana. I was in grade 3 and this kid who I used to play with at recess would play as if we were characters from the game and thought he had made it up. Later when visiting his house he showed me the game and I began renting it. I kept renting the same copy and using my own save file. One day we had a family party where my parents invited a few friends' families for dinner and while showing the game to one of the kids I accidentally deleted my save file. I then got determined to get my dad to buy me the game. I eventually ended up finishing it and funny enough, my buddy from school never got past the first 10% of the game! LOL 😂😂😂

The SNES is one of my favorite consoles, it's always in a battle with the PS1 for me. A lot of my all-time favorite games are on the SNES, and I'm still discovering new games for it and the Super Famicom to this today. Just as an example I picked up Ys V the other day and I've been loving it. Awesome collection of games, John.

I wish that most of those foreign jrpgs would make it to either mobile or a super limited edition rpg snes classic with proper translation. I bet that would sell millions if they push out shipments 3-5 times that year. Some of those being Terranigma, star ocean, ys 4 & 5, lenus 2(paladins quest 2), treasure hunter G, treasure of the rudas, tales of phantasia & secret of mana 2. There are so many other great rpgs that can be added, if something like this ever comes out it would be the best gift anyone could have gaming wise.
@MadPanicGaming
@MadPanicGaming 7 жыл бұрын
You're right, and most of the games you named have English patches available for them. That's the route I'd recommend taking, since it doesn't seem like any Super Famicom JRPGs are likely to get official releases outside of Japan. The SNES is also super easy to mod, it's essentially region free.

Ha! I also sold all my super nes stuff to buy a sega cdx, when I was about 11 years old. And I ended up selling that when I was 14 to buy the PlayStation. Fortunately, when I was 17, I came to my senses and stopped selling all my retro stuff. I went on eBay and bought back all my old nes, snes, and cdx stuff. Now I keep all my stuff. Never selling anything.

I've built and sold collections/individual games and systems so many times in my life. My biggest regret was selling my Game Boy for $20 back in the day. I still have no idea why I did it. Being that it was a Christmas gift a year or two ago, my parents weren't too pleased. The last time I sold my collection was due to moving to a new city to go back to college. I've been moving a lot ever since, so I haven't been able to build a new collection, but if I ever find a place to settle down, especially now since I'm in Japan, I'll be building a new collection.

i feel your pain in regards to selling your original collection. Back when i first got my ps2 my mom twisted my arm (after multiple attempts) to donate my ps1 and all my games to charity for a needy kid for Christmas. I know its for a good cause but it was absolutely gut wrenching watching my mom drive off with my collecion.. FF7, 8, 9, Tactics, Chrono Cross, Star Ocean 2, MGS, Bushido Blade 1 and 2, Colony Wars, Intelligent Cube, Marvel Super Heroes vs Capom, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Legend of Dragoon, RE 1, 2, 3, Suikoden 1 and 2 etc.....it was awful. Its taken me years to rebuild my collection.

I kinda wish I'd been born a couple years earlier as I was too young to really get the most out of a lot of the early NES games when we got one and mostly watched my older brothers play them until I got old enough to play them myself, then when I was old enough to be really good at video games the SNES came out and I was like pfft... the NES? Old hat. I didn't even care when my mum gave away our NES and all the games to our cousins. Oh well.

Yeah, it's a touch too grindy, especially mid-late game IMO. But it's been a few years since I've played it! Your extensive coverage, and love for the Dragon Quest series brought me to your channel. My mother in law's 60th birthday is coming soon; she is Japanese, and absolutely loves the series. She had stopped playing the games on the DS, having replayed all of her favorites on the portable, and the (new at the time) Dragon Quest IX. I'm surprising her with a New Nintendo 2DS LL, and the re-releases of VII, VIII, and the upcoming XI for her birthday, as well as the PS4 version of XI, and the complete package of the MMORPG X later this year. This series is important to her, because it connects her to her late husband, who was a major fan of the series as well. I'm an avid JRPG fan myself, but only got to play VIII back in the PS2, recently reengaging with the series on the 3DS (just ordered the english versions for myself, so me and my wife can play alongside my mother in law). Sorry for the big personal text, I just wanted to thank you for all the good information you provided, so I could make sure I was getting her a nice gift. Your passion for gaming is really contagious, and you really helped me out. Please keep it up!

Also Axelay, Gradius III, Pilotwings, Hagane, HyperZone, Run Saber, Skyblazer, Imperium, Space Megaforce, Cybernator, Killer Instinct, and Wild Guns, are all solid exclusive games. Other worth mentions are beat 'em ups like all the Final Fight games, Magic Sword, Knights Of The Round, and The King Of Dragons. If we start going with license games, then we'll have too many, but there are many good ones, particularly the Capcom and Konami ones. Other than that, your collection is one of the most solids I have seem. ActRaiser, The 7th Saga, Chrono Trigger, Soul Blazer, Final Fantasy III, Illusion Of Gaia, Secret Of Mana, Brain Lord, EarthBound, Legend Of The The Seven Stars, etc., you really have one of the best.

brillopad6901 No one counts that one. It felt fan made. It wasn't bad, but not like something else from Square from the time. I really don't know what happened to them with that one. My theory is that they made it as an inside joke to see what happens.

I count it. Sure it's not as good as the rest but it's better than Arcane and Lagoon.

Great stuff and nice to hear the stories behind the games rather than some guy just saying "Look at all these games I've bought up and how much they are worth!" I do find it sad these days that the SNES games are so expensive. I had around 100 up until quite recently but could not justify 1; having games worth that much sat on my shelf, and 2; paying the money to add to the collection. My all time fav console for sure. But these days I have to play them via Wild Card ;)

Johnny thanks for such a great video man!; this was seriously a treat to wake up to. I’ve started my sunday morning with some Final Fight 3. Even though I grew up a wallet chain, leather jacket wearing angry Sega kid (lol) - when I play older games these days I more often keep returning to the Super Nintendo. It’s such a magical system that is video game perfection! I feel you about being stupid as well; I sold many PS2 games at one point that I now regret. Thank you for saying Mystic Quest is charming! because it so is! I still need to play Secret of Mana; really love the idea of the co-op. Demon’s Crest has such incredible artwork. So awesome you have an Earthbound; That’s one I realllllly gotta play as well. It looks so attractive.

Good collection there. I guess I could say my SNES collection is much bigger, but you have all of yours in box in near pristine condition, and also have more highly sought after games than I do. I share the same regret of selling/trading off some of my favorite games. But thank goodness I have kept my copy of Earthbound from back in '96. Most games I would like to have are ridiculously expensive. No game is worth that much, I don't care what people would tell me. With your duplicates, perhaps you could trade for two more of those lost games you used to have?

Snes best times ever! I have a little collection of my own for it, not many boxed ones but i have about 400 loose carts which includes the ones in the video. Huge rpg fan, i wish some of them get a remake/remastered version for this generation consoles or next one. Many games can get a remaster but i would really love to see chrono trigger & final fantasy 3 get a remake with some added content.

Nice to see the new Blade Runner trailer as the ad before this video. I don't like a lot of modern films for various reasons including shaky camera work, but Blade Runner looks well made. I know fans like you have concerns, but I'm liking the direction at least. Nice collection there. SNES is not among my favorites because a lot of its big-name classics do nothing for me. With that said, I enjoy some of the less-popular titles like Ninja Warriors Again. I was glad to see that one emphasized in the video. That's one of my favorites on the system.

I own snes games and super famicom(mainly anime based games) games in my collection. I collected snes on and off since 1997 !! A lot of good games and good times. Before I always played the snes at friends homes. then in 1997 a friend gave me a super famicom gundam game and showed me how to get it to fit in the snes !! so I bought a system and the rest is history !! :D You can look around on ebay and find games for cheap from time to time !!

I'm the same age as you so it's funny how much I relate to your stories as I was doing the exact same things growing up here in Utah. I ended up buying my copy of Link to the Past because I went to the bank to change in a whole bunch of coins (I was waiting tables at the time and had been saving up my change) and I had like $60 bucks worth but the girl gave me back $120 and I didn't notice until I got home. I used the money to buy the game the next day lol. I don't know how you can like Super Metroid but not the original game? The original game is so bad ass I still play it to this day. I stayed up for 15 hours straight playing it when I got it for Christmas 87. I prefer it over Super Metroid. Soul Blazer is an absolute bad ass game, I love it, I think it doesn't get the love it deserves. It reminds me of The Guardian Legend on the NES as that one doesn't get the love it deserves. Mystic Quest was a lot of fun at the time, I was glad to play it as it was a SquareSoft game and they made the best stuff back then. Final Fantasy II is better than Final Fantasy III, don't know what the deal is with III for some people but I think II is so much better story line and soundtrack. Maybe I'm biased because I consider II to be my all time favorite game. Lagoon was the only SNES game that I said "fuck that game" after trying to play it for a few hours. I actually hate it. Lol I rented a SNES while I was spending time in Minnesota back in 93 and we rented a game that I can't even remember what it was. After playing it for a bit we found in the bag an extra game and it was Mario Kart lol we played the piss out of it and since they didn't know it was in the bag I just kept it. Funny how many gaming stories I have. I can't believe you don't have Contra III or Castlevania IV! Both bad ass games! I had lots of fun with The Magical Quest staring Mickey Mouse, NBA JAM, Rampart, Super Ghouls N Ghosts, Wolfenstein 3D, the 3 Ultima games, Super Adventure Island, Out of this World, Ogre Battle, Killer Instinct and Dracula X. The SNES was such a bad ass system I loved that time period, I still think of it often. I go back and play NES & SNES games more than any other retro system and I prefer them over modern stuff.
