I'm sure you have updated since this video but you can make your own dehydrated meals that can be vacuum sealed for pennies compared to dollars. Great stash though. My next big focus is water because you can never have enough if it.

This storage of food is well thought out. It has been weighing on my mind the last couple of months and my friends and I have been looking toward Costco and Supermarket specials to make it as $ effective as possible I do grow my own Spinach, Zucchini, Pumpkin, Tomato, herbs etc but need to essentially replicate your setup inside ( since it falls in line with 90% of the smaller short term storage vids I've seen on utube over the last few yrs). The butane stove is a great asset. Watching your vid reminds of and inspires the thought "I will feel far more at ease day to day knowing I have a good supply of everything we need for a 'situation' should the need arise". At present I have everything apart from food sorted out. Water needs a bit more work but mostly complete for peace of mind, have a coupla hundred litres and multiple hardcore filters stored etc. I would and have add some Veg that store well like Pumpkin, Onions, Potato and Sweet potato, dry lentils and beans, Ta for the inspiration Sir.

You'ved squeezed a lot of food in a small space! When I was watching your video, the idea came to mind that you could stretch out the soup (and I will too) by adding some elbow macaroni or ramen noodles. I'm telling everyone about my mylar meals that I've been packing up. I'm so pleased with them. Using the meal in a jar recipes that some youtuber's have out or google Chef Tess for her recipes. I use quart size ziplock mylars. For 2 large servings each meal pack I can fit 22 meals in a 3-1/2 gallon bucket and it is light. Of course, you will need water to re-hydrate and cook them. We even eat eat them now, they're good!

Those soups like mushroom, tomatoe etc are useless, just good as a starter or light lunch if eaten with bread etc, they only have around 80 cal per tin and next to no nutrients, only actually containing max. 10% of the mushroom/tomato or whatever, the rest is just water and thickeners / flavouring. Better go for more substantial soups with lentils, beans etc and some meat content, thick pea soup is a good one, or with loads of nutritional value like borscht which I get cheap in bags, not tins, in a local Polish shop, together with stroganov and goulash soups, which pack a bigger punch. But maybe you can't get that in the US.

For those who don't have a closet or pantry, a garage or other space for storage, it helps to find different smaller spaces where things can be stored, such as under the bathroom sink, under the kitchen sink, in an unused drawer or two in the kitchen, or a cupboard space. Also, under the bed in an under-the-bed storage bin designed for it, or even the attic if it's easily accessed. If you can, you can also store things outside the home against the house in a storage cabinet, or even in the ground in a sealed storage bin. Easily mounted wire or wood racks can go high in the closet, or anywhere in the house that is convenient. If you can locate 4 or 5 small areas, you can stock tons of food.

Instant coffee. Instant tea. You can try Dollar Tree instant coffee for trading if you need things others might have in SHTF scenarios. Dollar Tree sells herbs, too. Herbs for flavoring your own food, or for trade. Under the bathroom sink, use empty laundry detergent bottles stored there for flushing the toilet. Store toilet paper, too, and a first aid kit.
@simonh63714 жыл бұрын
I like my coffee too much to have to resort to instant even in an SHTF scenario, and always buy beans anyway, so I have an extra kilo (plus the 2 or 3 225g bags I always have anyway) stashed, it has a much longer shelf life (like 2 years, which I think is the same as instant or maybe even more) than ground coffee, even when opened it doesn't lose it's aroma before it's ground. And yes, I have covered the possibility of my electric coffee grinder being redundant if there's no power, as I have a good ol' hand grinder lol. Drinking instant would be such a blow to morale, it could sap my will to survive.

Nice setup. Might want to store cans of cat food instead of dry. Dry goes rancid rather quickly (and canned is actually healthier, especially the friskies pate types). Also some crisco shortening, it has an indefinite shelf life and can be used for frying/baking as well as a long burning emergency candle if need be (but burn it in a jar, not in the cardboard container).

Sorry to say, but that's mostly extremely high sodium junk food. Make sure that your cans are BPA free. I don't rate a lot of the products you have in terms of calorific and other nutritional value bro, like ramen (empty calories and not much at that), tinned soups which are very low-cal unless you go for bean soups, sweetcorn is just nothing hence it lands whole in the toilet bowl lol, also tinned chicken breast, which isn't really a thing here in the UK, it's very low-cal although not bad in terms of weight for weight protein. Luckily here in the UK we have 340g tins of all kinds of chicken curries each with about 500 cal upwards, combine with rehydrated dried fruit e.g. apricots, or chutney/jam, rice, even make some flour chapattis or johnny cakes with it, and you're getting loads of energy and other nutrients plus it's delicious. There's also stewing steak in tins here in the UK, loads of calories again (nearly 600 per tin) and you can add tinned mushrooms, tomato puree, paprika to make it a bit more interesting. I never liked instant mash, I prefer quick-cook couscous which has more calories, add olive oil, lemon juice and it's truly delicious and nutritious. Best stuff to get: corned beef, canned/jar beans as they don't need hours cooking (important if there's no gas/electricity and you have to use camping stoves), nuts, dried fruit, tinned fish and if you can get it, tinned cod livers, 600 cal per small can and packed with vit D and omega 3 oils, I eat these regularly anyway. SAUERKRAUT is brilliant as it's cheap, compact, and healthy as fuck, providing vitamin C and probiotics (it's fermented) which you find in those expensive yoghurt-based products, to keep your gut healthy and your immune system strong. Olive oil, veg oil, bottled lemon juice (for vit C). Yeah I do have some luncheon meat/spam type tins but also I have dried cabanossi (keeps for ever, loads of energy) in my cupboard and chorizo in the fridge, but the chorizo will keep for weeks even if the fridge is out of action and it's something I eat regularly anyway so I just use and restock on a rotating basis. Honey keeps forever and is antibacterial as well as high in calories. Coconut milk is good to add to food (curries!) or oats instead of normal milk, tins keep for months, but this week I discovered sachets of coconut milk powder in my local Indian shop, no artificial ingredients, and has ridiculous amounts of calories, nearly 500 cal per small 50g sachet. My ideal survival foods for both bug in and -out scenarios are those with around 500 cal per 100g, costing around £1 each max, this way you can build a 2500cal day ration for use when you are outdoors and on the move and need the energy plus warmth, which ways less than 500g i.e. 1lb. My bug-in rations are based on old British Army (1980s/90s) vehicle rat packs, bug out is based on the 24hr individual pack, with improvements based on nutritional value and influence from cuisines of other countries, so when SHTF I will be eating some gourmet shit which keeps me healthy and fit, not cold baked beans, tinned wieners and packs of ramen lol.
@leegrubb67539 жыл бұрын
I see nothing wrong with what you have as long as your rotating everything. Including the water. I just saw your Bug Out Man. Very nice. Can you tell the manufacture of the walkie-talkie you shown at 2:57 in your video? Look nice and small! Thanks and keep up the videos! Lee

Why do you have the "light" soups? Do you just rotate those, or do you suggest those rather the non-light soups? I like high calorie foods for shtf/wrol/etc prepping
@simonh63714 жыл бұрын
Even the non-light versions of those soups (mushroom, tomato) have less than 100 cal per tin and only about 5% of the veg they profess to be made from, the rest is just water, thickener and flavourings. Better to try to get hearty bean/lentil soups with meat content, or - I don't know if you get these in the USA - thick pea soup Dutch style with bacon/ham and potato cubes, but even these are only about 200 cal per tin so not enough for a meal even with bread. I eat these quite regularly though as a starter before a fish main, so I have a couple extra in my SHTF stock to eat as a starter before a tinned fish plus pasta/couscous & tinned olives main, replicating my normal meals.
