I know it‘s rough right now, but I know in my heart that the right position will find you. It might not look like that right now, bit it will work out in the end. You‘re an amazing person who radiates so much live for teaching and children in general. If you can show this compassion via video any school should see it right away when they interview you in person. Lot‘s of love and I‘ll keep my fingers crossed for you! 🤞

Oh Mayleen, I wish I could give you all the hugs and chocolate chip cookies and reassure you that it’s all going to be okay. I cried too when I heard that the principal didn’t see your app or email at the end, what awful news. I’m glad you still stand by your decision to decline the 2nd grade position and are firm in what you’re looking for after what sounds like a very miserable, unkind, difficult year. I’m going to keep holding out hope that the right position will come along for you because you deserve to feel happy, supported, and not just tolerated but appreciated. Wishing you all the best!! 💖

The right school will come and they will be darn lucky to have you as their teacher. Keep your head up girl!

I love that you are being soooo particularly in the position you get - I wish I was the same way when I moved to where I live…. I love how you are sooooo honest, work so hard for what you want, and that you are transparent in what you say!!!! I wish I could go through my screen and give you a huge hug…… The school that hires you is going to be BEYOND blessed to have you on their team!!! I learn soooo much from you sweet friend - one of the many things I have learned from you is to stand up for yourself - thank you…… ❤️

You'll get what you want. Blessings 🌼

I wanted to share my experience in finding my “dream job.” I was the typical excited teacher that landed her dream job or so I thought. That dream job turned into a nightmare and I still suffer from anxiety because of it. I slowly picked myself back up and landed a needle in a haystack teaching position and have been there ever since. It wasn’t my dream position but I’ve flourished and grown from my current job. You WILL find the school you are meant for. You WILL have a classroom full of kiddos who adore you. You WILL be okay. Stay strong and positive thoughts and coming to you from everywhere!

I was in a similar situation in my first year teaching. I took the first job offered to me (my cooperating teacher advised I go for it), and I was completely miserable. My administrator sucked. He was unfaithful to his wife with one of our teachers, against change, did not follow our school's handbook with discipline, had our school counselor handle discipline problems when he was out, and rarely visited classrooms. My students didn't even like him. I worked so hard in that job only to not be rehired. Literally half of the staff quit that year. The worst part was driving 70 minutes to and from work knowing it was the last place I wanted to use my gas on. 23-year-old me assumed I was a bad teacher since I didn't get rehired. That is NOT the case. You are an incredible, innovative, relatable, kid-magnet, passionate educator that so many of us look up to for your creativity, heart, and ideas. Remember that. You're helping me get ready for my 1st grade position (I've taught upper-elementary for 4 years). I never considered lower-elementary until seeing your videos three years ago (and binge-watching them this summer). You are capable. You are tough. You are compassionate. You are awesome!

I feel for you. I commend you for all the work you have put in to get a job. I know your pain. I have taught for 16 years and was 49 when I first starting teaching. However, unlike you I was stubborn and wanted to work at one specific district, the largest employer in my city in CA. My career ending up substituting for 13 years and having a temporary contract for one. Although, I had 16 or 17 long term sub positions, some lasing for the whole year during that time, so it was kind of like a regular position without benefits. I am now almost 66 years old and the pandemic has been hard for me, so I am having to retire. It has been difficult for me because I never really fulfilled my dream. That being said, I am proud of how flexible and driven you are. Don't give up, positions often come up the first few weeks of school and don't feel bad about turning down something that just doesn't fit. Hang in there! You will get a position at some point, you are a creative, loving teacher. Best of luck. Hugs!

I know you had a bad experience at your last school, and you did not like being the only member of your team. But I hope this makes you feel better when I tell you this, two years ago I worked at a school and had four other teammates. There were five of us total teaching the same grade level and I’ve never felt lonelier. They were all friends they didn’t welcome me in I didn’t feel liked or welcome and it made for a really rough year. I'm teaching third grade. Starting out I thought I would be first grade/ second grade only. But I've currently been in first, second and third. I think teaching multiple grades, or just having experience in multiple grades will make you look well rounded. Second grade is similar to first grade, and literally just the next step. Since you've taught kinder and first, you'd be an amazing second grade teacher because you know where they are coming from. And being a second grade teacher will help you if you go back to first, because you will have a better idea of where those kids are headed. Try switching grades. Even if you get first at one school, they may switch you the next year . Everyone isn't going to be that teacher who teaches one grade for their entire career. It's a privilege that you have the ability to deny offers though. I could not do that, because I have to support myself on my own. Most teachers have to just take whatever grade they get, and whatever offer. Especially as new teachers. Something has to give. Just my thoughts. Love your vlogs

(I did not deny the second grade position because of the grade, it was a lot of other factors!)

I fell in love with the kids, but I couldn't stay more than the semester. Now I'm in limbo with no real job, and starting the year as a sub. I don't mind, I just can't imagine going the whole year without teaching. It breaks my heart as well knowing that I love teaching, and I would love to have my own classroom again.

I’m not saying this in anyway to be rude or anything like that but I think you really need to focus on the facts that ultimately your career and your passion is as an educator non-grade specific. It’s wonderful that you are in a position to be able to be a little more selective but a lot of us educators do not get that luxury. I think you also need to keep in mine that a school district has authority to move the teachers to any grade at anytime. So you could be hired in your ideal position and then be moved. And many people spend years teaching and moving around schools and grade levels.
@MrsCallsCampers3 жыл бұрын
I obviously know this information as well. There is nothing wrong with WANTING an ideal position. I don't think this comment was rude at all! Just not totally necessary. Also a lot of the positions popping up do say "first" or "kinder" it isn't like I am actively only applying to them! Not sure if you got that from the video or not but just for clarification.

I actually want to discuss my previous admin with my new admin, and I will say exactly what I said in the video - I didn't share anything here I wouldn't share to future admin. @tb11563 жыл бұрын
Yes! You can let your new admin know what you want without saying anything negative about admin from last year. And realize that there is no perfect school. People come and go, our own wants and needs change. To be brutally honest, this is two years in a row now that you’ve had difficulty finding a job. It’s time to look at what you can change. That doesn’t mean “settling” or not getting what you want. It means you need to look at an area or two you can improve on and also taking a job that may not be the perfect fit, but the important things are checked off. I’ve taken jobs where I wasn’t going to teach a grade level I wanted and I’ve always been able to move into my preferred grade within a year or two. The experiences I’ve had teaching the other grades has only made me better. You’ve gotten some good advice in a few of these comments and your responses don’t necessarily sound like someone who’s willing to listen to others and grow. Again, to be brutally honest, if everything was working so well for you you’d have a job by now. People are just trying to help you. Two years of teaching still make for a mew teacher. Listen to those of us who have been there! We only want to help!
@MrsCallsCampers3 жыл бұрын
@@tb1156 I also realize there are no perfect schools - but there are certain things that I PERSONALLY need to have in a school in order to be happy. That is different for everyone. Trust me, I've taken an incredible amount of advice from people I've spoken with. The only advice on here that I haven't listened to is the portfolio and showing up to schools - two things I believe make you stand out and show initiative. And just because I haven't accepted a position somewhere does not necessarily mean there is anything wrong with me - like I said in the video, I actually TURNED DOWN a job. Regarding your comment about accepting a position that wasn't the grade level you wanted, that's great! I would be willing to do the same. 90% of the positions I've seen pop up just happen to be K or 1 so although it may look like I am not willing to take other positions, that's not true. There's only so much you can gather from a video which is why I just feel you are being a little critical. I have also considered a combo grade STEAM school AND special education position, both of which I was considering because it would give me valuable experience. You honestly should not think you know someone enough to judge them based just on what you see. I also acknowledge in almost all of my videos that I am still a new teacher; definitely something I am aware of! But just because other teachers have experience does not mean everything that works for them translates to me (ex: the portfolio.)
@kaitlyn68683 жыл бұрын

Keep pressing forward, it's really hard, but you will get there. This experience will make you so much stronger and you will be an awesome mentor to new teachers struggling to gain employment too.

Mayleen, I'm typing through tears. My heart goes out to you. I see your passion, preparation and how dedicated you are and to not get what you desire and deserve is discouraging. I know you will get the perfect position fit just for you. It's coming! I can't wait to celebrate you! Blessings and love

Hey there,have you tried looking into private schools?? I totally hear you about not wanting to work in a hostile environment.... I left a position for similar reasons. Now moving from 3rd,to 5th.... I'm nervous about my new colleagues... even though I've been in this school over 20 something years. Wishing you only success in finding a job you've and enjoy.

You be picky, girl! It is SO hard to work at a school where you are not valued and under appreciated. Sending all of the positive thoughts and vibes your way that the school for you finds you ❤️

I’m struggling to find a teacher job in CA too. I really wanted to teach this year. I know I’ll find my place but I feel so discouraged
@MrsCallsCampers3 жыл бұрын
Once I settled in with the fact that the timeline I wanted this year was probably not going to happen, it was a little easier. I know that's hard. But if you can at all, try to just know that your position is there, and the timing just might be off. I wish you the best luck sweet friend..

Oh, Mayleen! :( I believe that the position that is perfect for you WILL come your way, when the timing is right. It is so difficult to pick yourself back up again when you come up against rejection, but as hard as it may seem right now, what is right for you will not pass you by. Something WILL come up and it will be perfect for you. Be kind to yourself - know that you did what you could and trust in the timing. Keep pushing forward and know that we are all rooting for you!

I am a college student with one more year to go. I am currently looking for paraprofessional TA positions. It’s hard because I have to go around my class schedule. I was offered a position at a school I had a very rough time at with a different experience and I wanted to turn it down. A week later, they said they could not work it out with my schedule. So here I am, still interviewing. I had an interview last week and I thought I was the perfect place for me so we will see.

I’m so sorry, Mayleen. I have been thinking of you. I honestly can’t believe that a school hasn’t snapped you up. I can only think they haven’t been the right ones and the right one is waiting for you. Hard to hear that at this point I know. Keep your head held high.

Sending you so many positive vibes. I really feel for you and I’ve been going through the same thing this summer. I could relate to you declining an offer that didn’t feel right because I ended up having to do the same. The school you are meant for will come along. I also could relate to you saying there are so many negative teachers and you’ve worked so hard to stay positive. You are doing the right thing by choosing a positive work environment for you. Keep your head up and keep smiling. You are definitely a go getter and your ability to make yourself available and showing up to these schools really impresses me. Just have faith everything will work out. Sending virtual hugs!

You are such a go-getter. It’s really inspirational. I know it’s incredibly hard right now, but in one way or another, all of your hard work will pay off. Keep your head up, Mayleen! Knowing what you want and not settling is very admirable. Best wishes to you! 💖

I’m no where near, in the same shoes as you. I know the situation is tough. These past two years I was not working as a general music teacher like I wanted and I took a step back to apply and be more selective because I really wanted to find a home in a school. So for the past two years I was holding out but stayed as current as I could by being an interventionist and a substitute. And now I’m feel very much in the right place and I have my dream job. I hope things work out but there is no shame in taking a step back if you need to!

The right job for you is on the way. I know it doesn´t seem like it, but in the end you will be glad that things turned out like they did. You were right not to take a position that you knew was not right for you. If you lived in my state (NC) you would have your pick of jobs. I have participated on tons of interview panels and we would love to have a teacher like you interview. Be patient...your time is coming and it will be worth the wait!

Mayleen I am hurting for you 😭 I cannot even fathom how hard this journey and experience has been for you and I commend your bravery in sharing and putting yourself out there for different schools. I completely relate to having your heart set on a certain grade I’m in love with 2nd grade but am currently set to be a 5th grade teacher 😩. You are not just an incredible teacher but an amazing person and I will be praying for you and what the future holds for you! Keep the faith and don’t give up, God has a plan and purpose for your life 🙌🏾

Mayleen! BLESS YOUR HEART!! ❤️ As my dad like to call this: This is just BS to see everyone going: No, No, No, No, No, No! That’s really what this Vlog is all about with the no’s which is so sad! 😔 Eventually, God will pull you into the right school to teach at, and just know, HE WILL, and it just takes some time! 💕 Wow, I’m just sad to hear about (not on purpose), but just feel bad for you, and also very upset about the game that my BFF and I both plays nowadays that she pulled me into playing with her last week and we love it! However, what’s annoying for us is that the maintence keeps going on every several hours of the days due to large amount of new people coming in with the servers being full most of the time.
