Just found an immaculate 110-A in my local tiny thrift shop. It was the most valuable thing in the entire store. After I saw one for over $1000 on eBay I asked the shop owner how much. $150. Talked him down to $140. SOLD!!! :)

I worked in HiFi retail and i can remember selling my very first Technics SL110 and it was with an SME are and Shure V15 cartridge god i would have killed for that set up at the time i thought it was just stunning and to be honest it still is a stunning bit of kit, it was so well engineered and it was at a time when Technics mid 70's was almost at the peak of popularity great times and great equipment in the mid 70's era.

I remember not being able to afford this (I was still at school when this came out) but- excepting the Technics SP10 Obsidian - this is the best looking turntable of that era. It was on the cover of ‘Hi-fi for Pleasure’ together with a beautiful woman lead down beside it with a glass of champagne - that’s how we rolled in the 70’s . Contrary to some of the comments here the base is made from diecast metal alloy and real wood NOT plastic. I did manage to buy a Technics SL120 with SME series 3 pick up arm when I got my first job.

Those Direct drive turntables are the BeezNeez, You need to spend a lot and upgrade the PSUs for a belt drive to get close...) Interesting that Digital Music sounds so GREAT via an All analogue system...

In 1973, I purchased that exact same turntable. The owner of the shop mounted the SME arm on the beautifully finish wood, and installed a Shure cartridge, can't recall the model #. This was the nicest turntable I ever owned, each albums sounded so good and clear. I don't understand why the person on this video placed everything on the floor, very bad for the acoustic and vibration, with the speakers so close to it. It's not doing this turntable justice especially playing that music.

@PavelUrusov
@PavelUrusov 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, sure. Your statement is a great example of stupid generalisation. It's like saying "there are no intelligent people in Southern Europe" or something like this. Obviously you're not familiar with Sony's stellar APM series, or Technics phase linear speakers with flat drivers using high-tensile diaphragm. Many of those models still sell for hundreds and even thousands of dollars used, and for a good reason - because they sound awesome!
@rickseneris
@rickseneris 8 жыл бұрын
I am not generalizing here. I consider myself an audiophile since the 70's. I also build high end speaker systems. Almost all high end raw speakers are made in Holland, Germany and England and none are made in Japan. In fact Stereophile Magazine jokingly said that perhaps the Japanese have tin ears when it comes to speakers and amplifiers. The do make some of the cleanest sounding cartridges that sell to6 figures, though. Of course they make excellent turntables and CD players. Also, since we are on this topic, the Japanese do not build high end amps in the like of Krell, McIintosh, Mark Levinson, Bryston, Parasound, Conrad Johnson, etc.. The speakers that are made in the USA are more of specialized and quite expensive such as electrostatics like the Martin Logan, etc. The Japanese raw speakers are mostly mass production speaker systems and recently quite popular on car boomboxes.
