As I said in your previous video, amazing sleight of hand. Now, the trophy says "I fooled Penn and Teller". Not Voutsaraki or any other viewer and that's what matters. For me you didn't lie, Penn asked the wrong question (wrong conclusion), and Teller was there with you. You fooled them, period. Keep going. Again congratulations!!!
@TechyBen4 жыл бұрын
Seems Penn and Teller are honest too, in that if they know it's "sleight of hand or "some props" will say they are fooled unless the see the exact method (as there are multiple ways). Lots of us guessed the multiple ways, but could not see the exact method. Probably similar to Penn and Teller, so they were fooled, as they could not pin down the exact way, other than skill and craft, that it was done.

I love when magicians treat magic tricks like open source. I don't think knowing how a trick is done diminishes its value. It might make it more amazing. It requires a lot of creativity and practice to pull it off correctly. Just because I saw a magician showing how tricks are made, doesn't mean I can make them. Also helps to improve critical thinking. Many people are tricked by fraudsters, who might do something like simple magic tricks (usually only with words). I loved to read the Martin Gardner books, with those simple cartoons. Even when I didn't fully understand them when I was a kid. Math and magic can be related.

I certainly know very little about the topic, but I thought the appearance on FU was marvelous. Thank you. The only sad part, for me, were the clueless idiots who posted videos on KZbin claiming that Garrett “cheated” (or worse “lied”) during the appearance (I.e. by not being truthful in the answer to Penn’s question about how the trick was done). Setting aside the fact that it’s essentially impossible to “cheat” on FU (I.e. given that the off-screen Producer knows how the trick is done and would call-out anyone who attempted to lie to P&T; as, in fact, has happened in the past) it seems all but impossible that someone as talented and established as Garrett would risk trashing his entire reputation by trying to pull so transparent a stunt. In short, more than clueless, they’re just jealous.

@Celtrics I would need to ask a follow up question first... There are some rings the method of the effect will not work with what so ever. I am sure you are not one of those people that think that I was claiming to really be taking my fingers off. That is magicians artistic license. As for the actual method it is a marketed published effect so I can’t talk method. But in the video I teach how to do the effect with different style rings so you can make it your own.

I saw these videos about a year ago. And now that I’ve rewatched, the more I think that Penn actually was sort of in code. When he said “ _that_ ring in gimmicked” then followed up with “if pure slight of hand, you’ve fooled us” And he said “ _this_ is a perfectly normal ring” As if in context and considering for double speak, they both were agreeing that “yes _this_ ring is normal. And the other was swapped in and out with slight of hand” He keeps his left hand mostly hiding the palm, and in the original video when he’s putting it on Teller’s finger, both hands’ index and thumbs appear occupied to make me suspect, that’s where a switch occurred. Then, when you account for the mediator judges, he wasn’t lying to them-he was lying to the audience

Penn Jillette in an interview stated that one of the biggest tells to how a trick is done is if you market it as impossible. When he had teller hold his finger at the top so nothing could be done at the top the only possible way it can be done is a gimmicked ring lmfao. He was literally holding the top of his finger there is no sleight of hand possible that you could take a ring off of his finger or put one on. At that point teller instantly knew it was a gimmicked ring. “If you present a trick as completely impossible its easy to figure out because the only way you think it would be done is the only way it can be done” -penn they were nice enough to give you the option to admit its a gimmicked ring or to lie and take the trophy, penn made that statement in that interview for people like you who choose the lie.
@dustingrimmmagic10672 жыл бұрын
He did not lie. He even sells his effect, Ive been performing it myself for quite some time at this point. Its not a gimmicked Ring, and he cant lie on the show. The producers know the method
@nox_tech_2 жыл бұрын
i wear the ring myself as a regular ring. it's a normal ring. they had their options to guess what the method was. they respectfully don't guess the method by casting a wide net through throwing out several options. they had to pick one guess to stick with, and went with specific phrasing to avoid guessing by casting a wide net. by the acknowledgement of penn, teller, and the offstage magic staff, they guessed wrong. so many magicians have the trick, and understand that the trophy was won and awarded legitimately.
@Travisharger2 жыл бұрын

I think Penn and Teller missed their moment to realize it was 2 rings, and that was when you did the thumb trick. When I saw you do the thumb trick, I realized no amount of sleight of hand could have transferred one ring over to the other hand like that in the amount of time and with your hands being in those positions and so logic would require there to now be 2 rings at play. They probably just didn't think about it.
