Interesting topic! I like how you're realistic about your setup vs positive displacement and the pros and cons of each. You're right man, very apples to oranges even though they're both superchargers. When I was a younger lad I put a vortech supercharger on my old 97 firebird. I expected it to slam me back in my seat (not knowing about the different types of SCs) and honestly it was more subtle than I expected it to be. I still saw my ETs drop, but it didn't feel like a monster, rather a steady extra push at the top end. Where as Hellcats always feel like they're more violent and don't want to be controlled (but in an awesome way). Pros and cons to both, you mentioned a lot of them in your video. Nail on the head. Procharger would be the way to go for roll racing, they're way easier to launch the car properly from a dig as well and like you mentioned they're easier on your drive train. Positive displacement arguably have a longer time in boost where they're making power in your powerband but are extremely difficult to launch (just watch any youtube automotive channel try to compare a hellcat to something, they can never launch the thing), but are definitely more dramatic to drive at most rpms, transforming the character of your car. Both are awesome. I can say this, if you put either of them on your 5.7 you will have a hell of a bad ass ride that will hurt a lot of feelings and surprise a lot of people along the way.

I'm going with the Whipple because my goal is more power in casual street driving. Torque, aka TAWK.....is king! Torque is what an engine produces. HP is just a mathematical way to express torque in work performed. I don't wanna have to constantly spin the engine up to make power. Plus, Tawk will be more funner with 3.92 gears. 😅 I'll have to set back extra coin for tires.

This video is on point! I’ve always felt that from a dig, there’s so much torque with a positive displacement SC wasted due to lack of traction, so for launch purposes they’re really only ideal with when you can apply power to all 4 like a Grand Cherokee/Durango etc. RWD applications only make sense if you’re more concerned with getting immediate torque while cruising without downshifting. Personally, I like the centrifugal route because 90% of the time, I want to drive like I’ve got some sense and preserve whatever’s left of those elusive MPGs 😂😂😂

I went through this a few months ago with my 2018 Camaro SS. I ended up going with the Procharger. I got helical gears so it’s relatively quiet and it has a blowoff valve to atmosphere so it sounds sick. The car feels completely stock until I hammer it and when I do it just slingshots you. I had a whipple on a 5.7 hemi and to be honest I didn’t really like it. It was a pain in the ass to tune and required a smooth boost controller to eliminate the fluttering and surging.. the shop that did my procharger (different than the shop that did my whipple) told me they experience a lot of the same issues when tuning whipples that I experienced with my 5.7.

That said some of the best 1/4 times with Hellcats, Camaros and Stangs are Maggy 2650 high boost applications. Low 9’s with a maxed out 2650 and I would imagine the new gen 5 whipple will get you similar times. Procharger boosted cars are definitely easier to launch so inexperienced drivers would probably do better with the procharger but experts with the proper wheel and suspension setups will probably jump off the line and not give up the lead so those 60 times will definitely favor the positive displacement style superchargers but on the other hand if you can’t hook while you spin the procharger boostef car may just leave you and win the race

The crankshaft having to spin a S.C.& a Procharger at the same time. That would create a lot of parasitic loss. 1 big issue would be the IAT. It would require 2 or 3 intercooler's to negate those temps. Then with intercooler's, comes even more piping you gotta deal with. It would take a big engine bay to fit all that. Regardless if half of it sticks out the hood or not, lol. Not to mention, thats a helluva lot of weight on the front. Getting close to a 50/50ish weight distribution, would be really tough. Especially keeping the overall weight, as light as possible. So dealing with all that B.S, all the extra time & money it would take. When you could just get 1 big ass S.C w/Nos & outrun the other car. That has a S.C.+ProC.+ turbo+Nos,😂. Sometimes more isn't always better. Would be really cool to look at though.
