It's Eurovision season again! Therefore, it is time for the annual Deep Thoughts video! This video will include a small part on the results from last year, as well as my thoughts and opinions on several entries from this year.

btw the perfomer with the most appearances in all of eurovision history is a guy named george costa, who was a backing singer for no less than 18 different entries in the 70s and 80s, even appearing 4 times in one year once

re the jury: the main issue seems to be that the people chosen for the jury are too often pop music professionals, so knowing that it's not too surprising when they reward Sweden, a country that has consistently sent well-produced pop songs. imo they need to have more people make up the jury, maybe double the size, as to account for more varied music backgrounds and jury demographics. ThePeaceAround did an incredible, super well-researched video on this, I highly recommend it

Fellow Dutchie here. Very excited, it's a very strong year. I think either Switzerland or Croatia will take it (whoever has the stronger staging, most likely). And hoping Joost will get a top 5 spot!

I don't even get why the whole "everyone copies the previous year's winner" thing is something people still believe. Last year didn't have that much ethno rap in it, 2022 didn't have an increased number of rock songs (hell 2023 actually had more), 2021/2020 didn't have a noticeably higher number of sad ballads than eurovision usually has, 2019 didn't have a bunch of chicken clucking, 2018 had like.... 1 jazz song out of 43 and it had a completely different vibe than Amar Pelos Dois, 2017 like maybe you could argue had a higher number of ballads than usual but they weren't very similar to 1944, and 2016 the year you mentioned had like 2 that actually imitated sweden's staging from 2015 (come on, latvia and armenia don't count lmao you're stretching). If anything the only other entry that I can say has inspired a significant number of entries in more than just genre choice or "being more creative" is Spain 2022, last year and this year have had quite a noticeable uptick in dance breaks, and Spain didn't win in 2022.

I think the main difference between Sweden and Germany in Eurovision is that Sweden sends the same Stuff successfully and Germany doesn't.

People seem to forget that loreen was 2nd in the televote and käärijä got more televote points then loreen got jury points so that throws the whole argument of loreen getting too many points from the jury out of the window. Also käärijä was 4th with the jury, it’s not like he got dead last. If we give the televote more power then the jury then we just go back to the awful times of the 2000s But this is one of my favourite years in over a decade. I’m honestly really happy that everyone took inspiration from käärijä since it did make the contest more interesting even though cha cha cha wasn’t my favourite sing from last year (btw neither was tattoo). And this was a really fun video to watch and it was really well made

This year is genuinely the first time I'm really rooting for Estonia, it's my 2nd place, the highest I've ever placed the country. I love the originality of the sound, never heard anything like it before in the best way possible! I'm voting from Norway

Im happy the song is in estonian and that they use the musical instrument (näeb välja nagu mingi väike kannel mdea), but the song itself really sucks and the presentation wasnt the best, they missed their notes and made several other mistakes

14:25 Loredana Berte was asked to come participate in UVPSM after she lost Sanremo in Italy... she was allowed to use the same song she submitted to Sanremo and it was unusual for this sort of thing to happen, plus Italy had a hugely positive reaction to her and she was predicted to win Sanremo altogether (in the end she didn't even place in the Top 5), so she assumed she was just going to win UVPSM and then she got second place lmao

To me this is one of their weaker entries and they will definitly not do well with the public, but juries wil probably put this quite high so I think theyll scratch the top 10 but not something to be copied for the next 20 years. The problem with removing the juries completely is also the way it could lead to a long-term development of the songs becoming sillier and more campy which is what happened in the 2000s.
