Following the First public flight for Halo infinite, our feedback and data was collected by the researchers at 343 and structured into a list of themes and talking points. This list was then shared internally with the various teams and artists at 343. Following this, 343’s community team wrote up a report for the community of what was discussed internally about the flight and how our feedback has been received! Let's go over that feedback!

@@LateNightHalo I loved the depth of field effect, I figured there was some reshade involved! My favorite map aesthetically are Halo 3s Forunner maps. I especially love Construct and Epitaph.

I like that it’s more different from the energy sword now. Before the attack speed was basically the same.

I wish they met the criticisms and positive feedback halfway, even just for a test. Slow windup + AOE effect to differentiate it from the energy sword plus bringing back gravity to the Gravity Hammer

For me I'd love if glowing was only on friendlies and maybe you could tune how intense it is. That would be great imo

I feel like that would make the most sense, since you don't have to worry about glowing in the dark, being over stimulated and not being to comprehend friend or foe, easy to tell shields and you would actually be able to tell what kind of comsetic the person uses more easily If that's actually 1 of the big reason why got rid of red vs blue. Im color deficient I can pretty much see all the colors but my brain has trouble comprehending them sometimes. Solid colors was alot easier to tell apart than the glowing outlines for me. I think it would be best to keep RvB but give options to people to change the colors to red vs green, pink vs yellow and so forth that way you can hit every color blindness and deficiency.

Bots are also amazing tools for testing forge maps, maybe give forgers the tools to give bots a general objective?

Some are speculating bot tools are what is taking forge so much longer than the rest of the game, I hope that's the case.

@@ENDfilms44 I'd imagine so, making a system to dynamically generate and update navigation meshes every time someone moves an object on a map in real time on Xbox One hardware is likely very difficult.

Destiny 2 doesn't have garish glows AND it has custom colors, Yet I can tell friend from foe just fine. Persistent icons over Teammates and a red bar/name over enemies when you look directly at them is enough.

Honestly, it’s a good sign that the biggest problems people are talking about are things like “the XP system doesn’t seem good” and “the medals aren’t big enough” and not problems with fundamental gameplay mechanics.

The physics is a pretty big fundamental gameplay issue. No grenade jumping, no gravity hammer… gravity, and no player collision is all strange not to have in a halo game

Honestly still think sprinting is not useful on its own now, so it's pointless to keep it in, but I'm in the minority.

@@argo9721 UI changes won’t be till after launch. They’re in the polish phase, so I’m guessing their avoiding major changes that could cause more bugs.

Live service is good as new content and bug fixes can happen to an old game but there’s also a bit of a dark side as features or content that are expected at launch, are not present and they just say that they will add them post launch

A game hugely delayed is a game being towed to the finish line after breaking down, not a game being polished to perfection. Missteps in early planning have come back to roost.

Agree on the grav hammer. We need to tell 343 to put the classic grav hammer back in (as a variant at least) It does seem we're getting more the typical 343 situation of "break what didn't need fixing, then fix the uneeded change post launch."

Honestly for me I just need it to have abit more gravity and a heavier sound but the hammer swings are great I love the longer swings and heavier hit is a great difference between gravity hammer and a energy sword

While I heavily appreciate the transparency, I feel as if 343 has not fully learned their mistakes from Halo 5. I understand that they have to release infinte this holiday, probably due to publishers, but I hope that they can give 343 all the time they need to finish the game.

I understand the frustration, but from a business perspective, 343 is already behind schedule with Infinite's release (don't forget that it was supposed to be released along with next gen). So, I don't know what other good choice they have left....

I think it would be really cool to give the Grav hammer that alt fire treatment and allow the player to hold down the trigger to sort of charge up a huge swing with bigger area of effect. So it has its quick classic swing but gives the weapon some identity separate from the sword with a charged swing

Wouldn't that just make the sword useless? Why use the Sword if the hammer can kill one person instantly and a group with a charge? They should go ham and make the alt fire a blast that doesn't do much damage but blastas everything away, user included. Imagine the forge games we could make where you need to push people off ledges because we increased their health so much a few hammer swings are needed to kill them aside from obviously the drop

They’re putting a lot of effort into features for new players, but to not have a ranked system seems counter-intuitive for keeping those new players for the long run

Ranked should be there but I doubt its ability to keep players long term. Look at how relatively dead MCC’s ranked playlists have gotten relative to social

If they add it in at just the right time, it may do the opposite, actually, allowing a sort of grace period for new players to get better before their scores start going on their "permanent record" so to speak.

I personally use the motion tracker a LOT. If a player isn't readily shootable, I'm looking at my motion tracker as it allows me to see all around me whilst moving at max speed. If a player Is shooting, I know where they are via bullet trails so it became useless I found it extremely useful and it was sort of balanced by being far from the main info

I rarely look at the motion tracker because unlike other games' maps/radars halo has it on the lower screen so to check it you have to look towards the floor, the worst place to be paying attention to in a shooter. I also just don't like how it functions, punishing flanking and pushing the objective while rewarding camping, spawn trapping, and moving even slowwer in an already slow moving arena shooter.

@@ENDfilms44 The radar has only ever existed in social game types. With halo 5 having ability radar, making flank plays possible if you just moved at base movement.

@@jackcolson4745 Since social covers all non-ranked pvp the most played modes are social, and social is the only option if I don't want to get stressed by ranked. Also the ability radar was only for H5 ranked/hcs (only after pros complained about hcs using standard radar), standard social has the normal radar and the whole point of this discussion is about how they made Infinite'a radar like H5 ranked radar but then after complaints they are reverting it.

I pretty much never use radars in the games like cod because it's useless I can see the bullets, I get arrow when I'm shot at, and most importantly I can hear where it's coming from. Why would I look away to look at somthing that I already know the information too.

People have said this since Halo 4. Doesn't matter how much people think "343i is listening to us!" when the higher ups are incompetent and can not even if their life depended on it make a good Halo game. Halo 6 is releasing with missing essential features that Halo always came with in the past. This game was supposed to release more than a year ago!

It's understandable why so much of this feedback will be addressed post-launch: the game's deadline is fast approaching and what time 343 does have is better put to use making the game as optimized and playable as possible at launch, rather than implementing potentially half-baked features that would never have been finished in time without another delay.

I mean, its understandable other than how a lot of the feedback feels common sense and could have been addressed earlier. Its lacking or having changed things at launch that were either standard in Halo for years or standard in major FPS games for years. I feel like they should have been able to include a number of features that they've said won't be there at launch or are being added or adjusted after the first flight but didn't because they keep trying to change things. I'm all for innovation in games, especially one of my all time favorite series, but considering sentiment towards them after 5, they played around too much with various features and mechanics (and their weird challenge model) when they should have focused on a strong core. Hype has only been hurt for Infinite, while CoD Vanguard and Battlefield are steaming ahead.

The other thing to keep in mind is that we don't know how much time and effort it will actually take to roll out these requested features: some of them could be as easy as programming a simple function, while others may require rewriting major sections of code. It all depends on how they programmed it in the first place.

I wish we could disable the outlines. It's probably the one thing I hated most and I really doubt a toggle for it would be that difficult to add by launch. I know they are bogged down with bug fixes but it's not uncommon to change small things like that in the short period between betas and launch in most other games.

Disappointed we’re repeating the same mistakes with adding core features post launch. We were supposed to release with a foundation to build off of, but instead we’re going to have to wait for the foundation to be finished up to 6 months down the line.

Other games cut features and changes for post-launch all the time, but they don't say anything so no expectations are made. 343i being transparent with us this much just don't get commemorated enough.

Unless someone is AFK. They're earning passive XP. I can see why they want to do challenges only but honestly they should have token amounts of XP for participating. Any kills, assists, wins, medals, objectives, etc. I'm fine with no match XP to prevent AFKing as long as it doesn't screw over everyone else.

You could apply that logic to anything. Am I being passive? Nah, I'm just actively doing nothing. Context is what defines passive and active in games. The point is that you don't have to go out of your way to earn XP in a passive system. As long as you're playing the game you'll get some, regardless whether or not you intended to. Technicalities don't matter in language if what you're saying is understood by all.

They should have two different rankings. Total Career Experience and Legendary Experience. Total Career Experience is the totality of all of your experiences. This is what will grant you common unlocks. Legendary Experience is your challenge experience and that allows you to unlock legendary unlocks. A two-tier class system that divides casuals from vets.

i would say they should change the friend foe system so that only your teammates have the outline or no outlines at all only nametags like how alle the other shooter do it.

I can't remember where I first heard this, but optional features are things the designers couldn't decide on. You can absolutely look at 343i adding a slider or button for every possible thing as accommodating, and in terms of things like accessibility options, I entirely agree. However, I can't help but shake the feeling that 343i don't have much of a vision, and are more comfortable outsourcing game design to the user. I have very mixed feelings.

343i is one of the most incompetent team I've ever seen. They deliberately and proudly do things the Halo community doesn't like in order to "Shake things up." They think Controversy = Novelty. People want something new, but it should be a feature that people welcome, not have mixed feelings about.

I don't expect a studio established solely to work on an existing game franchise that has one of the most vocal community in the industry to be confident in experimenting with new stuff. They know everything they try to do will split the community into 2 sides, so why even bother. 343i really should be granted a chance to work on an original project. They need to have a realization of what is actually their identity.

They should create a spinn off, perhaps from the perspective of a marine or something of the like, that way halo nerds still get their much needed halo injection and 343i can create something that gameplay mechanics wise is truly theirs

Infinite was the first AAA game I've played in years where I got annoyed by the HUD. The placement of things is just not where my brain tells me to look lol I play the MCC often and have never had any trouble keeping track of HUD elements dispite them often switching between matches. I'm thinking things are just a tad too small to really catch my eye. Really hoping they patch in options post haste after launch. I don't think it'll bother me in campaign but in a fast paced MP setting I can see myself getting frustrated quickly as I did in the flight

With everything in its own corner, you can reference your peripherals without interrupting gameplay. With everything in the bottom right, you have to "dig through" it visually to find what you need, taking you out of the flow for a moment. Not good tbh.

It’s things like this that make me question the people designing this game. Like it’s someone’s entire job to understand how to make a good hud and they completely missed the mark here. The horizontal customization menus were just as frustrating to see after how bad halo 5s menus were

Fortnite has already made an attempt at solving this problem: walls in Fortnite spawn partially damaged and instead recharge to their max health over time, giving an advantage to the player who places a wall before they end up in a fight (although that game has it's fair share of wall spam due to how easy these walls are to place). I can see a mechanic like that where a wall gets stronger over time working well with finite walls.

Agreed. If the wall spawned at around 40%-60% strength and after a bit reached 100%, it would allow it to be used as a reactionary tool but also would reward players who planned ahead and put it down early.

Dude I just want team colors back. The glowing first of all, looks goofy as fuck. It doesn’t look good. I was hoping to get away from the glow in the dark Spartans of Halo 5. I understand accessibility, showing off your custom armor coatings, and bla bla bla. That’s all well and good, however a setting where I can enable classic red Spartans vs blue Spartans would be appreciated.

Each halo has a musical theme I find. 1 had orchestral. 2 was rock. 3 was piano. Odst jazz. Reach brass. 4 a mix of grand orchestra and synthetic. And 5 had a "mix" of orchestral and synthetic for blue team and Osiris respectively. Infinite seems to be going for choir for its unique touch with alot of classic tones for filler

One thing I think you should’ve mentioned (unless I missed it) was the players clipping THROUGH one another, rather than being unable to move through each other, forcing tactical positioning, and allowing for interesting movement tricks such as stacking, Mario-jumping, etc.

One of my biggest complaints with the flight was how unrewarding it felt once I ran out of challenges and no longer earned any XP. It just felt designed to push me to buy levels in the battle pass directly or buy XP boosts. So I really hope the level system is addressed. Even if there was separate battle pass and levelling XP, where only challenges advanced the BP would be something of an improvement.

For the friend/foe system, for right now having full on color v color armor sets is something that realistically will not happen. 343 wants to have the focus on customization and coatings, so they aren't going to retroactively get rid of that, they are committed to giving everyone their coatings in every mode. What I think they could do is have the tags/usernames above your teammates at all times like the older games, and maybe keep the friend part of the friend/foe system so they are more easily identified as friendly. This way, enemies can be more stealthy instead of glowing in the dark, and you still have multiple identifiers for your team that you can see at a glance. Pulling the UI to just one team means you don't have to speak the language of color, deducing which highlight is what color, but rather a simple binary action of if they are highlighted or not. Many shooters have used a similar method to this for years and it works well. Red vs blue could be nice, but every match you're a different color and that can make it confusing sometimes, almost as much as the current friend/foe system, in which the tags come in handy to say "tag friendly, no tag shoot on sight". Infinite could use more of a boost in that aspect.

I feel like, with as little difference between max walk speed and sprint speed there is, it doesn't make sense for people moving at max walk speed to not pop up. It allows you to essentially maneuver around the map as quickly while remaining active and stealthy.

I appreciate how open they’re being about this game, even when it’s about something I’m not a fan of like the amount of stuff not there at launch. It’s nice to know they are trying to give us a very accurate idea of what the game is actually going to be like at launch, as well as give some ideas for what’s coming out later. I just hope there’s enough there at launch, because I’m getting kind of annoyed with every game launching as this empty shell that gets filled with content later on.

The "sounds like a box falling". I can't disassociate that now, it totally does Also I don't like the way it performs it's to much like a shotgun now a point in a direction and shoot. Halo 3 it could be used as a utility weapon you could use it to move a vehicle, or launch somthing to spladered an enemy to far way, you could easily deflect rocks (unlike the 5 were it's very hard) it made the game play differently everytime made halo chaotic and halo always played best when choas could break out of no where.

On the topic of the motion tracker: I didn't really focus on how I was impacting the motion tracker due to fighting bots. I actually assumed it worked like classic Halo until I was told otherwise. I was disappointed on how altitude displayed, and wasn't immediately clear to me. I like that they're changing it back.

I feel like it would make the most sense to remove the outline for enemies, since you don't have to worry about glowing in the dark, being over stimulated and not being to comprehend friend or foe, easy to tell shields and you would actually be able to tell what kind of comsetic the person uses more easily If that's actually 1 of the big reason why got rid of red vs blue. Im color deficient I can pretty much see all the colors but my brain has trouble comprehending them sometimes. Solid colors was alot easier to tell apart than the glowing outlines for me. I think it would be best to keep RvB but give options for people to change the colors to red vs green, pink vs yellow and so forth that way you can hit every color blindness and deficiency.

The co-op system for infinite seems like a really complicated thing to put together, it’s gonna be nothing like what the previous games have had, it sucks that we’re not getting it at launch tho.

@@lucasa9480 I think the simple way to allow coop at launch (or maybe just in general) is to make it "instanced" in a sense, one person would be main host and only they would get progress in their campaign, the other player wouldn't gain progress towards their campaign.

I think 343 should have an option for us to choose a red team color scheme and a blue team color scheme for our Spartans. So our Armor Coatings would have a red and blue version, or maybe RvB specific coatings. And there could be a way for colorblind players to change the teams to purple, yellow, green, etc.

I would be interested in testing how the different types of motion tracker feels. In earlier Halos if you weren't peeking at it all the time you were at a huge disadvantage. It was also so powerful it denied creative flanking strategies outright. I think toning down its power is a great idea, but I also didn't get my hands on the flight so I don't actually know how it feels to play with.

VERY happy about the motion tracker. That was my number one issue with the flight and I didn't expect it to be addressed due to the e-sports competitive nature that the team seems to want to add. I'm surprised it was changed, but very much in the good way. Glad it's been changed and hopefully it'll stay that way. I still wish you could change enemy shield colors separately from the outlines, though.

Yeah, what the oddball smack did in the MP reveal trailer for Infinite is what I expected from the gravity hammer. Send them into the stratosphere. In H3, the hammer was a great tool to deflect vehicles, but I worry I’ll just become roadkill in Infinite if I try to stand before an oncoming chopper, hammer in hand.

I really am gonna miss smart scope. I hope the new zoom in effects have the same level of creativity as the smart scope HUDS. And if there is ONE THING, just one thing I'd love for them to bring back from 5s single player is the different aesthetic heads up displays. One feature I would like them to add to the gravity hammer was a pull ability so that you can pull things towards you as well as knock them away. This idea mostly was inspired by how Tartarus uses the hammer in Halo 3.

How do you feel about the sound in H2A? Idk if it's a bug with my installation specifically, a wider bug, or a poor design choice, but I find that the sounds have a lot of issues. The energy sword sound gets cut off frequently, the reloads either sound weak or have no sound, and the assault rifle sounds very inconsistent.

Weapon combo drills, an all weapons drill where you can choose from a pile of every weapon in the game, and drills against vehicular targets should all be a thing. Don't forget to offer a solution when you give feedback or you might not like the solution the devs come up with When Modern Warfare reverted their change from compass only to UAV only minimap, I was very disappointed. This was a case of players failing to understand a deliberate design decision in a short time period, and the devs capitulated to their confusion instead of committing to the design philosophy, and it turned out to be for good reason. When the game came out, players struggled to learn how to track enemies in three dimensions through situational awareness rather than their HUD. They tried to use the minimaps for this, but that's not how they worked anymore. They next leveled their complaints at the complex, multilayered map design, not realizing they were missing the connection. By relying on their HUD instead of their eyes and ears, they couldn't learn the maps the way they did before, and the compass was a very deliberate choice to demonstrate this. It shows the direction an enemy is firing from, but not the height or distance. You have to figure that out by observing the layout of the map yourself. It really needed to be like this because simplifying the layout to a 2-dimensional box makes it impossible to ever learn anything. The compromise to only show players when a UAV is active didn't help matters either, leading players to simplify the problem to "You have to have a UAV active to know where anyone is in this game." Now Halo Infinite doesn't have complex maps or UAVs, but the connection here is sprint, because I've seen a lot of toxic debate around it. Ultimately it comes down to a tradeoff, the advantage of moving faster at the disadvantage of something else. If it's "overpowered" you can quickly tune the balancing by either reducing the movement speed or increasing the tradeoff. In Halo 5 that was shield recharge, and in this it was visibility... until they removed that mechanic. Now there is no tradeoff, because it certainly isn't reaction time with the way your weapon teleports back up when you pull the trigger. This makes me concerned that the way 343 will capitulate to sprint critics who point this out is by nerfing the already almost negligible movement speed into the ground, making it completely useless and destroying the depth offered by the tradeoff. Sometimes your creative decision is the right one and your critics just don't understand the reasoning for it, or in the case of Halo fans, don't want to

The motion sensor reversion is honestly a big mistake. When players have a powerful radar that extends 25 meters past their person, it ends up stagnating map flow because people are afraid to ever get within range of each other. Unless the enemy is already fighting somebody else, or you have an overwhelming advantage in the form of a power weapon. And with two frag grenades off spawn, players are very well equipped to punish anyone who dares to try and get close. And crouch walking is just too slow to be viable. The longer you spend trying to flank one dude, the more and more likely getting caught and killed for your trouble becomes. Not to mention how it takes the shotgun and sword and makes them purely weapons you use by crouching in a corner and waiting for a guy to pass. Because when everyone can see you coming, the safe option turns out to JUST be trying to headshot people from a distance with your team. But with the Infinite flight’s radar, you would be rewarded for flanking and holding your fire until you got close, allowing you to actually get aggressive with these close range weapons instead of defensive. As it was, the “combat sensor” or whatever they called it in Infinite’s flight worked as a way of visualizing your sense of hearing. Which I think works a lot better than just having near perfect information about your enemy’s location, including elevation in later halo games, for no work at all on your part. Especially when the sensor dart exists in this game.

I disagree. Based on my experience it does not prevent engagements. What it does do is allow for head on engagements, so you are not shot in the back. What people like you fail to think about is lesser skilled players. The game needs to be accessible from a skill standpoint. It in effect give the lesser skilled player a chance. When the player feels like they are getting over run they get discouraged and quit playing. This partly addresses that.

One of the most annoying things about 343 and halo Infinite to me is this fixation on fixing problems or adding features post launch. I know some people don't mind this more live service style of game development, but call me old fashioned but I think this is bullshit. Games should be finished and complete at launch and not fixed after the fact. Sony's proven this way of development works, with many of their exclusives that launch with all their features and in a very good state at launch with no real mention of post launch before release at all unlike 343 who can't seem to stop saying it doing very well. In result of Sony pumping out finished products with all their features at launch their games get very good reviews and lots of sales at launch. It's quite simple really, having a finished game at launch increases review scores which increases how many people buy the game at launch. I just don't get why 343 or Microsoft don't see this.

I just thought of something they could add for the AI buddys. What if they made it so we could have custom AIs? Ones that let us record with mics or upload mp3s and assign our own voice recordings to specific actions. And maybe adding some effects we could add to these recordings to make them sound more AI like. Such as reverb, tone adjustment, lowtech, tempo, etc. I also thought that for the hud, they could add the option to use any of the huds that were seen in all previous halo games. Including adding healthbars to the ones that didn't have them before like Halo 2.

There is only one thing that shall terrify halo fans from the next halo game after infinite, "we will ad this post launch" words of absolute betrayal and concerned and basically a "ah shit, here we go again" moment.

I personally don't prefer the classic motion tracker, it encourages frustrating camping and playing an already slow moving arena shooter even slower while punishing what I find fun in a shooter, flanking and pushing the objective. I don't want to have to play ranked just to not get wall hacked on for using wasd keys.

Something felt off when I was playing and I couldn’t put my finger on it, video made me realize it was the hud. In older halo games I could check my shields and I would see my grenades and amino in my peripheral vision. It’s not a huge difference but glancing from the top mid of my screen to the bottom right took just enough time to give me a few “oh shit” moments being caught off guard.

They should call the esports level bots “Hyper-Lethal”. Nice and lore fitting like the other bot difficulties

Although the halo 3 HUD was considered more difficult to read, I liked the presentation of it because it gave you the sensation of a visor wrapped around your head and that your spartan helmet is communicating with the player. Having everything in the corner seems to create a level of detachment to the idea of being the spartan you are controlling.
