Just saw episode "Robbie Valentino" today on MeTV and the end credits used the Chevrolet cars of 1962 passing by.

Dead air with the theme music playing after the closing. Must be rare

Ehhhh... it was probably just a backdrop for the sponsor plugs.

This was when syndication started to plastered their sponsors and replaced with the theme song. I guess the "V of Doom" never showed up until the SMPTE foot reel appeared which was kinda haunting.
@OldsVistaCruiser2 жыл бұрын
At that time, Chevy sponsored the show. What is now dead air showed their products.

We were expecting to see a Viacom pinball logo, or a Viacom "V of Doom", but this was different from a 16 mm film print of the original as there was dead air in there.

I always thought it was funny that they depicted the oldest son as wearing wingtips! Even back then, only grown men wore those.

What happened to Fred MacMurray's intro where he says "Hi! Welcome to the show!"? His intro never appeared until later seasons of "My Three Sons" came along.
@fromthesidelines5 жыл бұрын
That's because Chevrolet "did the talking" at the beginning and end of the first few seasons {"Presented by CHEVROLET, in behalf of your Chevrolet dealer........"}.

I’ve come back to this because of the dead air with the theme song that appears just after the closing finishes. Since this was an original print from 1962, and that’s where the sponsors would have appeared, I’m assuming that this bit of dead air has been added in later to remove these sponsors. Yet I can see no evidence of splices around the dead air section at all… what is the deal with it?
@TheVintageTVArchive4 ай бұрын
I believe the lab just added a fade-out to the intro to hide any sponsors. Every B&W syndication print I have of this show, except for one which is a network print, has that fade-out.

TheVintageTVArchive I know you've posted a video that had the V of Doom that was from 1962. It was a Nick @ Nite print.
@TheVintageTVArchive6 жыл бұрын
The episode may have been from 1962, but the actual film it was printed on might’ve been made between 1976-1986, most likely 1976. This film was printed in 1962, according to the Kodak edge markings on the side of the film.

Desilu's logo would have shown up instead, since that was a separate company at the time (Desi Arnez and Lucille Ball), and I don't think Paramount had control of that studio just yet, and Desilu didn't begin using the merging circle logo until around when Star Trek began. Was reading up on this and I think it had something to do with this being one of the original B&W episodes that aired on ABC (the original network), and it might have been when they moved to CBS - how is it that a lot of shows that change networks seemed to find CBS as their landing spot? - thus the change in studios, too. Also from what I read, they had to move studios because it was also at that time that the G&W buying of Desilu was beginning to take place.
@jaredjlinden Жыл бұрын
My Three Sons was filmed by Desilu because Don Fedderson rented studio space from them. But Desilu had no ownership in the show, so there was no Desilu logo at the end aside from the “Filmed at Desilu” credit. The only logo at the end during the original broadcast was Don Fedderson Productions. The Viacom logo got added when Viacom distributed the show in the 70s and 80s.

TheVintageTVArchive sounds like a PAL Print
@TheVintageTVArchive4 жыл бұрын
Film is neither NTSC or PAL. Those apply to how the film is transferred. The old unit ran a bit too fast, so it may have been running at 25fps or so, but it was not a PAL unit. The NTSC standard is 24fps; the PAL standard is 25fps.

@@TheVintageTVArchive what he meant about sounds like a pal print is that the sound is somehow a little bit pitched up.

I saw every episode in the first three or four seasons. It was a wonderful sit-com in a better time. That was the era of Pete and Gladys, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Flintstones, The Beverly Hillbillies, Father Knows Best, The Andy Griffith Show, The Donna Reed Show, etc., plus the terrific variety shows like Red Skelton, Gary Moore, Ed Sullivan and Danny Kaye. We were a unified and prosperous nation then, with a great sense of humor, before the Cancel Culture, Wokeness, and Critical Race Theory turned a large portion of the population into intolerant, easily triggered, and unforgiving scolds.
