From someone who gardens in central Texas, zone 8b/9a, I have experience with 7 out of 10 of the annuals you mentioned. I absolutely love my blue suede shoes salvia. The color is beautiful! Mine also returned from last year! Our heat is so intense here, the vista series are all I use. Jenny, I still have a snowdrift and several bubble gum still kicking! Color blaze coleus are work horses for me. They do fade in full sun here, so I have to make sure they get reprieve from the sun. My “blew my mind” is also still going, another work horse. I have golden gate lantana and they returned from last year. They had to be sheared back several times because they got HUGE! Butterflies absolutely love lantana. My vermillionaire is still holding on too. Highly recommend any of these as well for my fellow Texans. I would add verbena to the list. I still have violet ice growing in the landscape. Oh, and lemon coral sedum! Love you Jenny and Jerry! Merry Christmas to you, your family and all the staff at Creekside. 🥰

That Suncredible yellow sunflower IS amazing!! 🤩💛 Just 1 plant does exactly as you stated Jenny. That plus the Mini-me watermelon coleus and vermilionaire are just 3 of the annuals I'm coming back to Creekside to purchase! 🌻🌿🌸 Mind-blowing performance with minimal fertilizer in this hot 8a region.

In Ohio and I planted vermillionaire for first time in pots with petunias on our deck. Yes, the hummingbirds loved it!!! They favored the plants more than our feeder and gave quite a show as they went from one flower to another.

LOVE the Suncredible Sunflower! I took a leaf out of Laura (Garden Answer)’s book, and planted a “hedge” of three in a tight sunny corner- instant impact all season long!

The winter solstice occurred yesterday so the days will start to lengthen. I have already started my plant list for spring. One of my favorites that you mentioned was Blue Suede Shoes Salvia. It is beautiful every year and is a perennial for me. Thanks for the list!

I’m excited to plant blue suede shoes in the ground this spring! I’ve had it in a container on my porch & started blooming again the other day. Superbena Royale is still blooming in my garden as well in 8a GA. Hoping both will be perennial for me! Beautiful plants.

...I am a testimonial for the PW salvias and cuphea vermillionaire. I discovered the cuphea 3 years ago and I'll never be without it. Mine end up being small shrubs. Both I have mentioned are foolproof to draw hummingbirds as you say. I have a back-gate entrance into a private backyard, and this spring I had made a beautiful sign that says "Hummingbird Haven" which I placed on the house wall at the entrance. I have 2 feeders but they predominantly sip from plant to plant which is sooo fulfilling -- I made that happen -- and it's very rewarding to know I created an ecosystem for the oh-so-important pollinators. 🤗🙏🏡👩🏼🌾💚 =^..^= [MD, now 7a]

I don't have a lot of Proven Winners plants (nothing against them, I just ended-up following a guy on KZbin who promotes a different company) but I have to say, Vermillionaire is also my absolute favorite hummingbird plant here in South Carolina, zone 8a. Absolute must have.

Hello Jenny, I love your channel, thank you for the videos! I would like to mention that some of the plants on this list, such as salvia and cuphea, are actually perennials and may only be annuals when grown outside of their hardiness zone. I live in Northern California where these are perennials. It is not entirely accurate to call these plants annuals - to be more precise I would recommend that you explain that these plants are perennial up to zone X but can be grown as annuals in areas outside of their hardiness zone. I understand that Proven Winners may market these as annuals but it is not accurate, unlike some plants that are universally annuals regardless of climate.

We do mention from time to time that some of their annuals can be perennial in some zones. This was not the point of this particular video. Rest assured we totally understand and are aware. Lastly each tag has the growing zones.

PW annuals are rockstars- major bang for your buck. The majority of mine look perfect until the frost hits. I will be trying Blue My Mind next season. I have not been impressed with rockapulco, not very vigorous for me. I would plant them next to regular impatiens like beacon ones and the rockapulco flowering was very underwhelming compared to the beacon. The Sweet caroline sweet potato vine would make my top 10 list.

How do you keep your Vermillionaire from being devoured by Japanese beetles? I pick beetles off all my plants religiously, but that's the one I can never seem to save because they love it so much.
@rachelsgarden Жыл бұрын
Mine was loved by Japanese beetles too, but fully recovered once they stopped feeding (about end of June for me last year). I’m going to try planting nepeta and geraniums around them this year to see if that helps. Hoping to find something to repel them!
@JLee-pc2vc Жыл бұрын
In Virginia, we have heavy Japanese beetles from late June through early August. Most of my plants recover, but the Vermillionaire never does. Good idea to plant them amidst plants that the beetles don't eat!@@rachelsgarden

For me sunflowers is a little messy, for the manicured flowers in the garden.. I guess if they had a place by their selves a long a fence, or garage they would work.
