I have the Dometic CFX 75 side by side. With the larger side set up as the freezer and set at -5f it draws 5 amps pretty much continuously in hot weather. It won't hold -5f. In the day it climbs to 15f. I broke down and bought a Honda generator for long periods overcast weather. Another trick i have learned is to buy already frozen meats or dry ice and freez the meats in a Styrofoam cooler. Never put dry ice in your Dometic it is -100 and will ruin the Dometic.

As a long-haul trucker I can attest to the value of a freezer. That’s your long-term food, especially meats. I’ve also started dehydrating stuff to take on the road, although in your situation that’s probably not an option.

I was researching and apparently if you put salt I. The water bottles with the water and freeze them, they will melt slower and last even longer. I’ve got 4 saltwater bottles in my freezer now for my next camping trip 😊 hoping it works. I also bought one of the little canvas totes with the cooking utensils in it. Love it! ❤️😊 you and little one take care!

Never heard that one … Tristan of SRVing mentioned saving plastic bottles and freezing them with water to put in your ice chest to help with icing things down 3:56 when you hit the road. Never heard of adding salt, will add salt

If you don't already have one, a power bank that can also jump a dead battery is a "must-have item" on the road, it can prevent you from being stranded in the middle of nowhere.

The freezer/fridge exchange makes a lot of sense. I have a full refrigerator in an apartment, but I threw out the crisper drawer because it made no sense for a solo cooking person.

You have inspired me to travel more in my recently purchased motorhome doing something very similar or at least more often. It is also nice to take your recommendations being that you are originally from my home city where I graduated high school. I would take your recommendations more than other KZbin creators. I fairly recently retired out of Dade county myself out of law enforcement, *Surfside p.d. to be exact* . Therefore I gave up my career like you did after ten years due to reasons similar. Therefore I really appreciate all that I learn from you to relieve the stress. I need to keep my home base for awhile anyhow for appointments therefore it will take me awhile to travel full time like you do however I do see the benefits of doing so. Thank you for teaching the necessities on this video.

I bought a small 1-cup Hamilton Beach coffee maker (about $ 30). You could simply plug one into your 110v Jackery outlet. The 1-cup pods can be easily purchased on line.

I know what it like, in 2015 my best friend and me went on a one year trip to all 4 corners of the U.S.A. We started Jan 1 2015 at Pahrump NV . and headed to Florida. and yes we were on touring Bicycle. and pedal all the way. Yes we used Jetboil stove for all the meals and Tent sleeping bags for sleeping. my Bicycle weighed with all 6 bags 125 pounds. Best time of my life.

I have been freezing water bottles for years and using them as ice. Frozen water bottles are awesome in a backpack as well on a hike. I drink the water after the ice melts. Also, the small water bottles actually work better in a small cooler than the regular water bottles from my experience. The smaller ones freeze faster and are more compacted. If you have one of those large thermo jugs, just put a small froze water bottle in your drink. Keeps it cold for a long time. Thank you for sharing. I have been a hiking camper for years, and we are starting to boon-dock in our RV. We are learning from others.

I chose to live in my jeep too. I feel a lot safer now than when I lived in my apartment. There’s a wonderful peace of mind that comes with this life. I just got the news my landlord wants more rent. I’m just done. I’m on a fixed income. For over two years I’ve done the part time nomadic life. Just got back from a week at 7000 ft totally off grid. I came back and wanted to go back! This was before I got the news on my home. Like you I’m at peace in my vehicle. Now I’m going to have to be in it but you know what I’m at peace with it! Me and the dog. Honestly it’s a relief to start this ball rolling. Thank you for all your information and inspiration Sarah!

I just want to share my fav poem from Arthur O'Shaughnessy. As a musician I grew up scribing this poem everywhere I went and now as a traveler too. I think it works as well. Just change we are the music makers to we are the travelers. Enjoy! "We are the music makers,(we are the travelers) And we are the dreamers of dreams, Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams;- World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams: Yet we are the movers and shakers Of the world for ever, it seems".

If you have a Jet Boil or other small burner that isn't very stable, it is often best to cook on the hard ground. If it's on a table don't sit next to it. There's a girl hiking the AT that spilled boiling water on her lap.

My 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee has two side by side cigarette -type chargers. I discovered it by accident. It has a little hatch door that flips up. Perhaps your Jeep also has a secondary charger? This would could offset the dysfunctional one until you could get it fixed. Some vehicles also have a secondary charger in the back or rear side...Hopefully, this could be the case with your Jeep?
