I am beyond excited for the Mass Effect remaster! Mordin's story haunts me to this day. I still use the quote, "Had to be me. Someone else would have gotten it wrong," at every opportunity. The ending to Blood and Wine genuinely made me tear up. Yeah, I'm hopeful that Skywind is completed, someday, as it looks so promising, but we'll see... Zelda's never quite been my thing, but my wife recently got herself a Switch and has loved going back to the classics in the series. If you're into tactical/top-down single player at all, I cannot recommend the Divinity: Original Sin games highly enough. They can also be played co-op, and the wife and I went through them together. Think video game D&D. Another great one is The Banner Saga trilogy. Beautiful artwork and story.

I was born in '85, so of course I remember all the way back to the original NES, and blowing on those lousy cartridges, and then Super Nintendo, with Mario, and MegaMan, etc. Then, we had N64 with GoldenEye, Smash Bros, and so on, and GameBoy Color with Pokemon. The last system I actually owned was the N64 and Game Boy. I have played on a PlayStation; when my friend and I would hang out a lot, we used to always play Combat Training on Black Ops II. Mostly in Nuketown. I've also got James Bond Nightfire for PC which I've beaten many a time. And lets not forget The Sims. Nowadays, I like to listen to game soundtracks, even for stuff I've never played. So many great gaming soundtracks out there including COD. The music for the Halo series is one of my favorites, and Skylanders. That series has such fun music.

I’m getting to this video about a year late. I started playing games on the original NES. I would visit my aunts house, and her and I would lay in bed, eat M&Ms, and play Legend of Zelda, Super Mario 3, or Contra. I was given an NES for Christmas, at some point, but I was never a die hard gamer, outside of when I would visit my aunts. That all changed when I, again, spent a weekend at my aunts, and she had purchased the N64, and picked up Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. Mario was fun, but Ocarina is the game that got me into gaming for life. I played that every time I would visit her (once a month). It took me almost a year to finish. Christmas of 2000, my parents gave me an N64. I took some of my Christmas money, and purchased - copy Ocarina for myself. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve played that game over the years. I’ve owned it on 64, 3DS, virtual console, and now I play it on Switch. It is timeless, and magical every time I pick it up. The music brings me back to being 10 years old. To the memories of hanging out with my Aunt Kathy, and the fun we had eating junk food and playing Nintendo. It still is, and always will be my number one game of all time.

I am the same age and the early PC games played big in my childhood. King's Quest III, Police Quest, Starflight... I also loved games like RBI Baseball, Tecmo Bowl, and other sports games. I liked racing games like Burnout, Road Rash, etc. I wonder what your thoughts are on modern gaming? I feel like most them feel more like a second (or third) job rather than a game, they lack some of the wonder, discovery, and mystery of old school games.

Would have to really think, but my list would definitely include Elder Scrolls (Oblivion in particular), Fallout, Witcher (3 was the best, loved 1 too), Bioshock (the first was just such a surreal experience, and the storyline in the third was mindblowing). Mass Effect as well (2, looking forward to the remaster, Andromeda just didn't work without Shepard), Dragon Age (all three of them), Civilization (1 or 4, hard to pick a favourite), Dune (can't remember if it was Dune, Dune 2, or Dune 2000 that I really loved), King's Quest, Monkey Island, Ultima IV, Metal Gear (Snake Eater top), Final Fantasy (VII maybe my favourite), Football Manager (or Championship Manager, as it used to be called), The Ninja (from the Sega Master System), Fable, Black and White, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Theme Hospital, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, Dagger of Amon Ra, I'm pretty sure I can add to this.

Great list! I'm thrilled to see another Final Fantasy VI fan! I adore that game and it easily my favourite in the series, though IV and IX are close runners up. It feels like those three are not as popular now, though, what with all the attention VII is getting lately. While Xenogears was really good, to me the Xenosaga trilogy (especially Xenosaga III, my favourite game of all time) is better in almost every way. I understand I'm in the minority with this opinion though. Love the Witcher, Skyrim, and Mass Effect series as well. All are in or close to my top 10. Symphony of the Night is great too, although the minimalist storyline keeps me from replaying it that often.

I played all of them except for Subnautica, Ocarina of Time, and Xenogears. I played a bit of Super Metroid, Castlevania, and The Witcher. I think we share a lot in common in terms of what games we play. I think you could try some of the games I personally like that _maybe_ you'll like it. Here goes: - God of War PS4/PC - Ghost of Tsushima - Uncharted 1-4 & The Lost Legacy - The Last of Us - Resident Evil 2 & 3 PS1 - Resident Evil 2 remake - Resident Evil 7 & RE: Village - Final Fantasy 9 PS1/PC - Kingdom Hearts 1 - Hollow Knight - Detroit: Become Human - Heavy Rain Some of these games would be mostly action adventure, survival horror, turn based RPG and action RPG. Hollow Knight is a metroidvania game which I think you can appreciate. Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain are both choice-based story games but I think you'll like Detroit more because of the amount of choices and complexity. It's cool that you're platform agnostic. My first gaming system was the Atari 2600 too and I also prefer the single-player experience. However, while I'm not opposed to consoles, I've been a PC gamer since the early 90's. It's just too expensive and time consuming to keep up with the latest tech on all platforms. Of the games you listed the ones I've played are the Mass Effect trilogy, The Witcher trilogy, and Skyrim. I agree with your selection of Mass Effect 2 and The Witcher 3 as the best of those series. However, while Skyrim was a beautiful game, my favorite in the series is Elder Scrolls III Morrowind. As for mods, they are definitely the reason so many Bethesda games last as long as they do.

I'm on my eighth game of what I consider the single best video game series I've ever played as well as maybe the best series for fantasy readers. It's called The Legend of Heroes: Trails... and it's incredible. A JRPG series that started with Trails in the Sky in 2004 and is telling an ongoing story over the course of 10 games so far and across three separate arcs. Especially in the games before the Trails of Cold Steel arc, it has some of the best storytelling, world building and characters I've seen in anything. Brilliant stuff. I highly suggest anybody that is interested in it checking out some videos on it or reading up on it if you're unfamiliar. The first trilogy goes on sale on steam pretty often. Also a big fan of FF 6 and 7, Chrono Trigger, Grandia and Super Ghouls and Ghosts. Hagane ain't half bad, either.

Fallout 3 9. Cyberpunk 2077 (yeah lots of hate online but I think its a great game overall - at least on PC) 10. Skyrim or Fallout 4 (heavily modded) ... probably Skyrim

Skyrim is my favourite non-sports game ever (I mostly play sports titles). If I’m including sports games, it would probably be something like NHL 12.

First game I absolutely loved was Adventure on the Atari 2600. Many, many years later, I would only play NFL Fever and Star Wars Battlefront II (the original). In the last 5 or 6 years, I've decided to be adventurous. My current games, campaign only, picking 1 per franchise: 1 - Dishonored #1 2 - Gears of War 2 3 - Ghost Recon Wildlands 4 - Titanfall 2 5 - Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 6 - Far Cry 5

I loved all of the games you mentioned but I too am in it for single player campaigns. Nostalgia is so powerful. Ocarina of time is still my number 1. No way it can change for me because of how impactful it was. Love all Zelda games. Mario should be on the list for me too but falls off. Mario 64 was tops for years but actually got passed by odyssey. 1. Zelda Oot 2. God of war ps4 3. The last of Us 4. Portal 2 5 . Bioshock 6. Uncharted 4 7. Red dead redemption 8. Batman Arkham City 9. Doom 2016 10. Shadow of the colossus

Metroid Fusion was an amazing spiritual successor to Super Metroid. Well worth picking up a GBA ROM and giving it a go someday if you haven't. ~~ Finding an application called Wabbajack has renewed my love for Skyrim. It downloads and installs curated list of mods. I lost patience with downloading and testing and crying involved with modding, this app makes it stable and modded to the max, oftentimes with over 300 mods per list. Game changer in the truest sense.

Have you ever played the dark souls series? It’s great fun, gameplay is solid, it has a rich story that isn’t spoon fed to you and has that early 2000s game charm

My Son loved Subnautica, however he got too frustrated looking for all of the components to build things that he went into creative. It made it shorter, but he had so much fun building bases all over the ocean floor. It didn’t affect the “story” play that much. I’m more of a puzzle/story game. Most games I played on a PC Favorite PC games - The Myst series - Riven is the best I used to buy every new DreamCatcher puzzle game....Riddle of the Sphinx, The Crystal Key, The Sacred Amulet, Beyond Atlantis, Schizm Monkey Island 3! The monkey island games are so great! Minecraft for PC is great! For X-Box 360 Fable 1, 2, &3....Fable 2 is my favorite The first Skylanders game was a lot of fun I haven’t been able to play much with the xbox one because my son has been constantly on it but that is ok, I generally don’t have much time for games...plus everything seems like “fighting” games and I just prefer the puzzle games...

1. Portal 2 (I'm surprised how much I loved this game) 2. Psychonauts (basically Inside Out as a dark platformer, of course I love it) 3. Titanfall 2 4. Metal Gear Rising Revengance (good adrenaline fix) 5. Stardew Valley (best relaxation game ever) 6. Ocorina of Time (I just liked the sense of adventure, I don't really have much nostalgia overall for this game) 7. Metroid Samus Returns (I haven't played many Metroid games they're not easily available) 8. Halo Reach 9. Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 (Best character creator ever) 10. Crash 4 It's About Time

Hey Mike, on the Civil War quest in Skyrim which side did you go with? I have a hard time trying to decide who exactly is in the right in that questline.
@mikesbookreviews3 жыл бұрын
I just couldn’t join up with the side that was about to execute me. So I always went Stormcloaks.
The Super Mario series is probably what I've spent the most hours on in my life. Original Zelda. Original Metroid. For some more recent ones. Dragon Age Rimworld World of Warcraft So many great games through the years.

Great list. A lot of my favorites are shared. I've often told people that I think Xenogears is the single most ambitious game ever made. For them to tell that story with the technology of that time was an incredible leap of faith and they mostly pulled it off.

Def a Morrowind guy. Kinda like Malazan , the payoff for having worked so hard was great. Wish it could be remade now instead of them wasting time making a “new” story in the world of Tamriel
@calebmauer17513 жыл бұрын
Morrowind is like a one of a kind great game. I don't know if something like that can be made again. A lot of Morrowind's size is enabled by the fact that it's not necessarily well balanced, there's no almost no voice acting, the characters don't go anywhere and the graphics aren't great. The game is great, but you can see with game's like Skyrim, they've put so many points into balance and graphics that they have no points left for making the game good in other ways.

idk if I could even come up with a top 20 GOAT games list. I'd feel like I'm just forgetting so much. Definitely Witcher 3 is up there, RDR1 & 2, Last Of Us, Mass Effect, Tony Hawk & Skate, Rainbow Six 3, Doom 3D, Roller Coaster Tycoon, The Sims, Mount & Blade, Indigo Prophecy, Fallout New Vegas, Crusader Kings 2, Door Kickers 2, Vampire The Masquerade Bloodline, Baldur's Gate 3, DayZ, Minecraft, Rocket League, Call of Duty 4, Project Zomboid, GTA:SA, Max Payne, Harvest Moon, and a ton of VR games that no ones heard of lol. But that's just what I could think of now. EDIT: Just realized I forgot to put Dark Souls on here. See, always forget something important.

1. ASSASSIN'S CREED II (including Brotherhood and Revelations, as I count the trilogy as a single game) 2. MASS EFFECT 2 3. BLOODBORNE 4. THE WITCHER 3 5. ALIEN: ISOLATION 6. DEAD SPACE 1 7. HORIZON ZERO DAWN 8. MONSTER HUNTER WORLD 9. SQUARE'S TOMB RAIDER 10. DETROIT: BECOME HUMAN The other 15 games in my Top 25: 1. Ghost Of Tsushima 2. Dragon's Dogma 3. Dark Souls 4. Dark Souls 2 5. Dark Souls 3 (IT COULD crack my Top 10, but I'm simply not far enough into it to rank there at this time.) 6. Until Dawn 7. Rise Of The Tomb Raider 8. Shadow Of The Tomb Raider 9. Tenchu: Wrath Of Heaven 10. Kingdoms Of Amalur 11. Destiny (Not a perfect game or series by any means, but it has some of the deepest lore in gaming, a phenomenal soundtrack, excellent gunplay, and a gorgeous game world wherein I forged several great friendships) 12. Killzone 2 13. Borderlands 2 14. Suikoden III 15. Suikoden V
