Is it possible to build a paludarium that requires minimal water changes? Would I need some sort of filter?
@IndoorEcosystem21 күн бұрын
It sure is most of mine become exactly that given enough time. I generally wait about 3 months for the plants to all get established then it's 1 water change a month. Some people will stop doing them entirely and only replace evaporation but then you get mineral build up so I always make sure to keep doing a small water change even if it might not be required to keep water quality good. Filters wouldn't really make a difference in these cases.
@DELFUNK201521 күн бұрын
Thanks for the reply and great content. After rewatching your vid (and doing some more research) it seems that the filter foam you put in front of the intake part of the pump, paired with how the waterfall disperses water across the surface area of the rocks, this serves as a filter itself, so you don't need another mechanical filter.
@IndoorEcosystem21 күн бұрын
@@DELFUNK2015 It's basically added just to stop vibrations and slow down the filter clogging up. Less cleaning etc. In a normal aquarium you would clean it regularly to exctact mulm particles, waste and to polish the water. But in a paludarium with such a tiny amount of water it's not primarily doing that function.

Great video and a happy new year. What is the best wood to use in a wet tank?
@IndoorEcosystem22 күн бұрын
Happy New Year to you as well :) Pretty much anything works well except for pines, cypress, and sappy woods. Even when they are long dead they still have a lot of residue.

Dude, I'm watching your videos with interest, I have 2 questions for you. Can we buy clay balls from places like a florist? 2. Where can I find these isopods and springtail insects in nature?
@IndoorEcosystem21 күн бұрын
Clayballs (leca) are available pretty much any garden store or store that sells plants. I'm not sure about florists though (I don't ever visit them) But it's worth a shot. You can order them online really easily as well. As for springtails and isopods you can find both in the wild but it will depend on where you live and what species are available. Both can usually be found in compost bins or compost piles as well if you have access to that.
@snottlebocket21 күн бұрын
Try the gardening centre. They're often called something like hydroballs or variations on that. Pretty much every commercial flowerpot has them at the bottom for managing drainage.

Happy New Year! Great compilation of amazing builds. I think I have two of the strange Blood Devil types. Red with dark eyes as well. They seem to be quite interested in climbing, did you find the same? I'm hoping they might make babies so I get to see them more often because these two are Very private 😅

Happy New Year! Check out this list and see if you can find the ones you have on it: www.indoorecosystem.net/guides/geosesarma-vampire-crab-species-list Mine haven't climbed at all they set up burrows in the soil and have barely left at all. Let me know which ones you think they might be 🙂

@IndoorEcosystem I've narrowed down to perracae, bau or nemesis, but they're all quite similar, hard to figure it out. Need to see if I can find more photos of the last two to compare.

Brother, I have one more question for you, what do you pay attention to when choosing these driftwood? I put it in my aquarium before. Fungus formed on it and that's why my fish died, what should I do so that this doesn't happen?
@IndoorEcosystem21 күн бұрын
I'm not sure of the wood of the fungus you're talking about but it was probably biofilm which is normal and happens to nearly all woods you put underwater. That said there are some wood types that are bad. Pine, cypress, etc. These leak saps into the water even when they are long dead.

I used tile grout here in Poland a couple of years back instead and it worked really well. (2 coats) a lot of people mix it with acrylic paint from what I've seen. But just plain tile grout is fine too. Just make sure you let it dry fully before adding it to your tank.
