It's so funny to assume men aren't fully attracted to teen girls, especially men who deserve to be murdered lol. It's also been shown that women are hit on the most in those years (around 13-15) so her powers of seduction would ironically be strongest. Like, lean into it without copping out & changing actor/character. There's a great supernatural ep where a teen girl is used as bait for a vampire house where she lures pedophiles to be drained. It's also used in Let The Right One In. It's probably used a lot in the vampire genre those are just two I know off cuff.

When the Kristen clone was sent in as Edwards perfect girlfriend, I was like, "oh this cheesy, but that's on brand" because I was SO convinced that Isabella was made by Hugo strange, and sent by Court of Owls, to access Edwards eligibility to join the Court of Owls. The court of Owls made a clone of Bruce Wayne, so we know that they can do that, and Riddler is an intelligent individual that they could profit from using. If the court made Edward emotionally attached Isabella, who is built to be his ideal girlfriend, then they could use that to manipulate him into doing what they wanted. It explained why she looked like Kristen Kringle. It explained why she sticks with him even after learning that he was in Arkham for murder. Also, it explained why she said she had to leave to attend a "LIBRARIAN CONFERENCE" which I assumed was her cover for a Court of Owls de-briefing. So you can imagine my frustration when the conclusion was "She was just a rando look-a-like."

@sydnamon59865 жыл бұрын
Given how much screentime Dent was given in the earlier seasons, I think it's highly likely they wanted to go that direction but for some reason decided against it. This make no sense to me, since Harvey Dent could have easily replaced any of the "big bad" villains and the show would be a good deal better. And I don't mean strictly substituting him in for a character, but rather rewriting the plot around his character arc. I think the best place for Harvey to become Two-face would be in Season 3 (I think?) when Penguin runs for mayor. How hard would it be to have Harvey Dent oppose Penguin in the election, causing Penguin to send his goons after Harvey, mutilating him and fueling his desire for vengeance. Plus, it would reference the Telltale games, which I really enjoy playing.

No, it isn't, this just promotes the idea that we shouldn't have any kind of reaction when someone dies, even when they're original to the show. The entire "Penguin loves Ed" idea was clearly made to be a tease with no planned pay-off. Ever. There are so many other ways they could've handled the writing and still ended up at the same place they did while also giving us interesting and new views on the characters. Just have Ed fall in love with a girl. Penguin was Ed that the Riddler will kill her. Penguin serves Ed and his girlfriend enough booze for Ed to lose control, kill her and hide the body himself like he did with Kristen. Ed blames himself. Penguin confesses his love, Ed rejects but (over a few episodes) warms up to the idea as Penguin is someone the Riddler can never kill, aka, giving him someone to love forever. They fall in love. Some time goes by, Ed figured out what Penguin did, Ed and Riddler merges and takes revenge. Boom. Same end result, much better road to it.

There are so many alternative ways to do that, and the show just went for the least interesting one. It carried no meaning, and it's just stupid. Oswald killing Isabella should be one of the most important plot points of the season, because it's when their relationship breaks. It should be ironic, it should have used something that matters to Oswald, Ed, and the audience (just like what you said about Ed's past behavior). Your version would be much more interesting than what we have now.

I don’t feel it’s fair to blame the writers for that. Studios can be a bitch and you’ll be surprised by how often they’ll force writers to change the script to avoid rocking the wrong boat. This show is the worst kind of frustrating sometimes. And there have been some absolutely phenomenal scenes with the character; namely the "it felt beautiful" scene, and the initial time that Nygma shot Cobblepot and threw him in the river. It feels like the actors are trying to save the show from its own bad writing and vision and it kinda blows.

I have an alternative explanation. I think there are different writers of the show, and they are in odds with one another. So whenever one of them makes an importan plot-change choice, the next guy just forgets about it, dismisses it or makes any kind of crap to eliminate it from the canon altogether (including characters' deaths). They are not respecting each other these script writers. And that's why Gotham has incredible, beautiful plotlines that follow their own inner logic, but the show (and even the arcs) are all over the place. Its overarching logic just doesn't work.

My two biggest issues with Gotham...EVERY SINGLE time the Gordan and Lee romance shows up...so like 40% of the 3rd/4th seasons. And my second issue is that you can make a drinking game for how many times the GCPD gets taken over by literally anybody. And I mean ANYBODY. Sometimes it's just one person. Sometimes it's only 3 random thugs that Mad Hatter recruited. It's just soooo soooo common. I understand that the Gotham police force is just terrible at their jobs, but when it's every other episode, it gets a little ridiculous...more so then usual.

I feel like an interesting way to go with Isabella would be to make the fact that she looks like Kristin completely in Ed's mind. Like Oswald see's her for the first time and it's just straight up a different actor. It could have been a fun twist, and a way to get rid of the whole confusing doppelganger arc. It would also be another way to solidify the fact Ed is fucking insane. Also, I love the stabbing idea, where Oswald just kills her there. This could leave more time in the season to expand on her character prior to her death, and have Ed figure out it was Oswald. When it comes to everything else, I actually really enjoyed it and it become one of my favorite arcs in the show.

Until they just decided against it for some reason. And than again apparently he was going to team up with strange in later seasons but again never happened. There are bits in the series that I really do love, but I definitely watch it with my standards lowered. I will say that I'm surprised you chose Nygma's whole Isabella saga as your number 1 pick. Start it off small before you get to the straight up murder clowns, plant powers, and freeze guns. And I liked him being a weird predecessor to Batman, a vigilante who goes after corrupt officials and uses a bit of theatricality to send a message. Gotham needs someone like the Balloonman, but the Balloonman himself isn't even close to competent enough to be what Batman ends up being. Maybe he would've worked better later on in the season, since the previous two episodes had just been a regular crime drama without any gimmicks. Also 23:19 #LetQuinnSayFuck

I've been watching the series for the first time and what I find most disappointing about the Isabella plot is that she actually did turn out to be nothing but a random doppleganger who only existed to become the Riddler's perfect girlfriend, and then die. I had assumed, given that the show was running another plot at the same time about a doctor who kills people to give their faces to criminal clients, that she was going to turn out to be a plant by someone who wanted to steal power away from Mayor Penguin by using his best friend against him. (I was thinking Court of Owls since we'd already seen that they can clone people.) Given Oswald's history with betrayal and losing loved ones, this could have cemented the Penguin and Riddler as a team and it would've made so much more sense than what we actually got. :(

One of my biggest gripes with the show is also Barbara. I’m all for having strong female characters but his character in such constant change that it drives me nuts. I think the show runners love the actress so much that they wanna keep her in the show but her arc is all over the place. One of my nitpicks with the show was their handling of Harvey Dent. They introduced him as a young lawyer (I think?) way back in season one and then abandoned the character (I think the actor went on to other projects so maybe that had something to do with it). They really should’ve made the character a peer of Bruce so we could see their friendship grow, despite us knowing their eventual fates. Hell I would’ve even gave them a pass if they retconned his character, god knows they’ve done it before. Thank you so much for the video! I totally agree with your entire list. But as they continued it seemed the show lost its focused; it had _too_ many characters with _too_ many storylines and it didn't know where to focused the most - resulting in a huge mess. The incredible casting and performances makes me forgive the shows boring moments, and I don't think it's poorly written either. Yes, Barbaras character is messed up, but throughout the dc timeline, nearly every person in the universe has become an animal, each version of robin has become the joker and pretty much everyone has had a baby with pretty much everyone. I watched the whole series so it's been a while since the Balloon Man. Yes there's a big Rogues Gallery but S01 E03 is too early for any of them. We want to watch them develop. So the Balloon Man (BM to his pals) is a weirdo that prepares us for the idea that Gotham's residents can be a bit theatrical in their mental breakdowns. Like the fat guy in the vaguely Batman looking cowl from early on. Maybe Balloon Man was meant to inspire Kite Man. - And Harvey wanted Jim to let go because of the risk of shooting him in the balloon knot. - I loved the series, but I can see it's flaws. I'm just good at developing a head cannon that allows me to hang in. Like Firefly's suit material needed to be cured to reach it's final invulnerability. I'm surprised that the court of Owls plot was never mentioned, as it greatly undermines Bruce's future character development and eventual origin of Batman by having it being his destiny imposed on him by an evil organisation that ironically still gets their way by the end of Season 4 because no one stays dead in this show. Its for this reason that I despise this show's Ra's al Ghul because he feels very unnecessary and overcomplicates the secondary Joker arch for no reason. Like the first death scene was actually rather fitting, as it was our first look at how Bruce's 'destiny' had transformed him into this 'Dark Knight' who can sneak into a high security prison completely undetected and kill the prisoner
@PinkFox9835 жыл бұрын
thank you so much for deconstructing the stupid Kristen Clone ark and why it was bad. However, i gotta disagree with you on the balloon man thing. Thats what made me invested in the show, but thats only because i love dumb cartoony nonsense. Also you perfectly summarize why Barbra as a character is so frustrating to me, as well as the whole thing with Ivy. Over all i feel like the show would have been better off embracing its differences from traditional batman cannon as opposed to striking a really weird, unsatisfying balance between the two. After all, the people who don't like it cause its different are never going to accept it, but most of its audience just loves it for what it is (im pretty sure most of the people who watch gotham aren't even big on batman). Like, i feel like a lot of the inconsistencies with the characters were caused by the writers not wanting them to develop past a certain point so that they could still fit the traditional batman canon, when in reality the show is already far from traditional. Instead of be true to THIS rendition of the character, they try to make them act like OTHER versions of the character when it doesnt fit. I think thats how Ed got ruined for a lot of people who had been longtime fans of the show, only to have his personal growth be trampled over and reset again and again. Anyways, great video! im glad someone's finally give Gotham the analysis it deserves, even if its frustrating at times :)

Im absolutely loving your channel! It's been 10 months since my 6 year old daughter passed away and I'm still in that frozen stage although I feel like I'm starting to thaw. The way Freeze mourns is a little extreme.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a long road when you loss someone that important to you, thawing out isn't easy. (Btw thank you for your compliment, it means a lot.)

Your explanation and analysis of Mr. Freeze almost brought me to tears. You’ve truly managed to help me understand something about his character, about Gotham as a show, and about grief. Thanks for that, and keep up the good work!!!

This shows has so many flaws yet the fandom surrounding it seems like accept them with no issue, the last season is pretty bad with Oswald turning bad then good than bad his relationship with gordon changing from one episode to another like the last one didn't matter. Selina's cat eye that looks like were made in windows movie maker, like did we really need that seed thinggy to know that she's catwoman ? Even Nigma seemed to be interesting at first, having issue with his double personality and retracing his action to figure out what's happening to him and oh wait it's brain control ? By.. Bane ? that guy is supposed to be Bane ? Did they ever see what bane looks like ? But at least the got the mask voice changing thing like the last and worst episode of the Nolan trilogy yayy... I forgot Jim's girlfriend arc was a thing until she re-appeared last episode. Alfred is just there to be there while he was so important the last seasons "Oy mate can't save her from herself innit ?". Barbara got again a new story and she is pregnant from that one time pointless drunk sex scene... Talking about this series makes me mad yet I still want to know what happens next.
