Coaching mates is easy, coaching strangers is a skill. I'm working on it...
Ryan volunteered his time to let me hone/practice my coaching methods. In just one hour it's all about identifying the biggest potential drags on his progress, or most important things to work on correcting.
He says it'd be lovely if you could give his Porsche-centric instagram account a follow: / earlsporschepit

Cool video, looking forward to more coaching videos like this in the future. Also, I would love it if you could make an in-depth tuorial (like in your excellent tutorial series) on long, fast corners. Where instead of braking as hard as possible before the turn and then trail breaking into the apex, you apply a more gentle brake pressure for longer, like in the main subject of this video. Why we do it this way, how to get a feel for it, etc...

I used to have custom curves and a cap on my Heusinkveld pedals but I removed them a while ago and find that after learning how to brake correctly it is helping me improve. Goos luck with the coaching Danny. 👍

Fab vid Danny! If you plan on making more, would be good to see live telemetry on the hotlap for the other driver e.g @ 5:02. Maybe request them to send you a replay from their end?

May I add another suggestion? I noticed he's really slowly downshifting. In the Porsche's, the car turns better when you almost force the downshifts. It's something which slows the car down as well, like a secondary brake.

Great video. I agree with you, he should remove that 80% cap, imo it's a false sense of security or a inefficient way of solving a problem. The basic rule of calibrating is to hit the pedals as hard as you can consistently, or maybe a bit over your limit and work your way there. Doing this will help him to have a true feeling and brake naturally and will apply to all cars.

The 80% cap is silly when you could just set the load cell so you don't quite reach 100% unless you really stomp on it.

@@baribari600i was wondering as well… i have my new csl V2’s since 2 weeks (first loadcell, currently 1.6K iracing & going up but i need help lol), i set my BRF to 30% in my fanatec software as i thought it was way to hard to reach 100% braking at the default 50% brf…

A little confused, I am new to Sim racing. So to make him better, he just needs to turn the ABS off? And where do you find that in iRacing settings?
@Mik4ael
@Mik4ael 2 ай бұрын
He don't have to turn the ABS off. What's happening is that he is hitting the brake too hard (because of the way he calibrated his pedals). So in an abs car although he is not locking up, it means that he is having understeer on corner entry.

Welcome to Sim Racing, I'm sure you'll have the best time. In Ryan's case, because the cars he drives mostly have ABS equipped (GT3 and GT4 cars), his braking zeal is causing the car to understeer and feel 'heavy' because the anti-lock braking system is stepping in. This saves him from a big lockup, but costs time and agility. I'm still discussing with him behind the scenes, but what he's got to do is find a way to bring his braking down a notch or two so that he doesn't overuse them. In sim racing, especially iRacing, you have to be pretty accurate with your braking if you want to get faster. He could do this by recalibrating his pedals so that they are less sensitive to his leg press force, or he can train himself to be cooler and calmer when braking. The big difference between us is he brakes a lot harder and later, so that's ultimately what he needs to work on first.

You don’t want to turn off Abs in race cars it does allow you to slow down faster brake later, but you don’t want to set it off like Christmas lights.
