Hi! Do you have an opinion on pro tools as a sound design tool? I feel like the plugins that work with pro tools are kind of limited compared to many other daws.

I’ve never used Pro Tools apart from a day or two during the free trial. So I can't really say from experience how the plugins compare to other DAWs. From what I’ve seen in terms of the plugin suite that comes with Pro Tools, I think they compare with most other DAWs on the market apart from something like Nuendo which has way more plugins and dedicated effects. It’s also way more expensive though.

Kind of a sound noob. What Daw are you using and what ones might you recommend to amateur designers?

I’m currently using Cubase. I like Cubase because I am a very visual learner and I find they have good plugins with nice UI. That helped me learn and understand audio fairly quickly. Honestly though, it doesn’t matter which DAW you use, they all pretty much do the same thing. If you are on a tight budget, I would say go with Audacity because it is free. If you want a nice budget DAW that is awesome for audio and sound design workflow, check out Reaper. Whichever one you choose, put in the time to know it inside out. I currently have Cubase, Reaper, and Audacity installed on my PC. I mostly use Cubase because that’s just what I know best.

I feel the beginning is just different eqs no?
@daviddumaisaudio2 жыл бұрын
Not really. Trash is a multi-effect distortion plugin. So while it does have an EQ built-in, its main purpose is to distort. Specter is more of a Saturation plugin. It looks like an EQ because the way it works is by applying saturation to the EQ band rather than the entire signal chain. And then, yes, Neutron is an EQ.
