One thing to keep in mind is that it's extremely hard to choose what makes the list, and in all honesty it might look a little different on any given day. Even now I'm looking at these games and thinking how maybe I should have swapped out one or two for runner ups... But that's just the nature of the beast. Eventually you've just got to call it done and put it out there! That's why I had such a big runner up section, honestly, I'm just too indecisive! Also trust me, there are looooads and loads of games that probably would have been serious contenders if I'd gotten around to playing them. It's frustrating that I couldn't pick out of every game I was interested in playing, that would have made for a very interesting list. But it is what it is. Finding time for games can be hard.

Been watching Kane's videos for years now (it was the top 10 mario galaxy galaxies video that first got me into his channel so it's been a bloody while) and it's really awesome to see him in this video! I was very happy for him when I first saw he started editing for Arlo who I also liked at the time (and still do otherwise I wouldn't be here, duh) after the 'looking for someone to edit for' type video he posted. Mass Effect 3 is still a good game, it was the ending, combined with 2 being so great that made it seem bad to most people. I still remember all the companions, their personalities, their loyalty missions, and their motivations a decade since 2 launched.

This wa s the best decade I’ve ever lived. Heck, it’s the only decade where I’ve been alive for all ten years. I learned how to design characters, make games, dedicate myself to my art, and most importantly... ...find that one of my favorite games of the decade was a post-apocalyptic shooter about kids and squids acting hip and fresh. Also, Octo Expansion was amazing and I’ll never forget how surreal it all felt. Here’s to another fantastic decade! Thanks for accompanying us on the prior one and this one as well, Arlo!

Sam___ _ That is a very good list. You got good taste, I will give you that. At least the ones I actually have played myself. Breath of The Wild is a masterclass of video game design, Portal 2 is what all puzzle games should aspire to be, Persona 4 is outstanding and though I may put the story ahead of 5, I would have to say 5's improvements made everything that much better. Nothing needs to be said about any of the main Donkey Cong Country games. Pokemon Gold and Silver was the absolute peak of the series and the remakes were great for a more modern era. Like how you concluded with "and much more." That would always be a good inclusion for any list of mine. There are always too many to list in one sitting.

Until this day I did not realize Kane was a separate person. Probably putting a bunch of these on my list because of play time alone: 1. Xenoblade Chronicles 1 - literally the game that made me like RPGs 2. Breath of the Wild - you heard the blue guy, watch his big video on it 3. League of Legends - my skill-to-time-played ratio is too dang low 4. Animal Crossing: New Leaf - yes please 5. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - I flip flop on which of the two main Xenoblades I like better, but right now I'm just too hyped for Definitive Edition, so that's first. 6. Kid Icarus: Uprising - Get over the controls and play this masterpiece already. I all but fully completed this gem from daddy Sakurai, and I'll probably do it again. 7. Randomizers - cheating a little bit here, but the romhackers that make these things are just great. Specifically good are OoT, ALttP, SMZ3, and Ori randomizers. 8.Ori and the Blind Forest - two weeks from the sequel. Great metroidvania and just a beauty to look at and listen to 9. Octopath Traveler - One of the only turn-based RPGs I can't put down. Gorgeous aesthetic, great battle music, innovative mechanics. Play it. 10. Mario Kart 8 - The game that makes me wish more than anything that Nintendo's online connectivity was better, because I'd pour HOURS into racing online. MK9 when, Nintendo?

Kid Icarus: Uprising is my second favorite 3DS game behind Resident Evil: Revelations. There's a big learning curve for the controls; but once you have that down, the game is a blast to play. The exciting, fast-paced gameplay, lighthearted humor, and top-of-the-line visuals make for a fantastic game. And even a lefty like me could play it with the aid of the Circle Pad Pro.

Honestly, I only need a Top 4 List. Not because there weren't at least 10 good games this year, but because these 4 stand out so much higher above the rest, and the rest of the list would be games I don't feel nearly as strongly about. (Disclaimer: indie games defined the last decade of gaming in my opinion, and that is reflected in this list.) In order: 4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild I still haven't finished it, but what Arlo said summed this one up pretty well too. This is the gold standard for AAA games for me now. 3. Stardew Valley. Again, Arlo summed this one up pretty well for me, except for the fact that I have no life to get back to so I sank 300 hours into my main farm. This is my feel-good game that I open when I need to be lifted up from life's punches. 2. Hollow Knight. This was number one before Celeste, but there is very little about this game that I don't adore. It is a bit of a slow start; I had picked it up for two hours and put it down without touching it again for months, but once I did pick it back up I didn't put it back down until I had 100%ed it (before DLC). I had hardly realized that I had spent 15 hours in the game before I realized I was falling asleep and not properly appreciating the game in front of me, and as soon as I woke up again I continued playing, rinse and repeat. That is how wonderfully immersive and atmospheric this game is. 1. Celeste. I have nothing to say about this game other than that it is extremely special to me, made me cry harder than I had in a long time, and it is just exactly the correct balance of story and gameplay. There is nothing about it that I don't love, and as such, I believe that it is perfection in the form of a video game. Honorable Mentions: Had to include these two, as while they are by no means perfect games, I have spent the majority of my gaming this last decade playing either of them. Overwatch: My most played game of the decade at well over 1,600 hours League of Legends: My replacement for Overwatch in its current state.

I adore Cuphead to no end, and while it's technically my number one of the decade, I'm going to use that spot to talk about Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Under 3 hours in run time, simple puzzles, no actual dialogue, but it is the single best example of what makes video games so special from all other medium. The connection a gamer has is exemplified to the extreme in the ending minutes of the game and when that moment came, I was hit so hard, I put my controller down and wept, yes, full on cried, I was so moved and touched by the game. Ten full minutes I cried. Talking about it too this day gets me teary just thinking about it. It's on the Switch, but do NOT play it Co-op. That impact is lost in splitting control between to people. I refuse to spoil it, but please , play Brothers. It's absolutely beautiful.
