I started growing Tromboncino squash last Spring. I live in Alabama and this was a game changer for me. They are resistant to vine borer and squash bugs. They can be harvested green and cooked like a zucchini. They can be allowed to age on the vine and be harvested like a butternut. I have been eating them all Winter. The shape attracts people's attention; they are odd-looking. They can get huge and still be green. The vine is truly beautiful. Yep, I am in love, ha ha!

So I grow a Blue Berry cherry tomato and that is THE MOST durable, high production plant I've ever grown. It has beautiful blue/purple shoulders where the sun hits as it ripens and has more of that deep smoky flavor. But I left a handful of these in a tray bc they were tiny and I planted more than I needed, and I kid you not they lived without any care at all for like 2 months! And when a racoon tore out some of my plants I saw these still in the trays in the weeds growing. Threw them in the ground, and they still out produced every other tomato plant in the garden!

Mmmm, Shishito❤❤ I grow 6 plants every year. I put them in everything. Thin skinned and delicious. I also freeze them whole and loose packed in gallon bags to enjoy all winter. My favorite dish is tapas style- Blister whole shishitos in cast iron and serve with a soy sauce/ sesame oil dipping sauce

I'm growing Brad's Atomic for the first time this year! Also, I ordered shishito peppers today. This year is my first year planting a large (to me) garden. I've only grown in containers and a plant here and there in a flower bed. This is also my first year starting from seeds. I've got a lot to learn and am looking forward to this garden season. I love your videos. Very educational.

I have grown shishitos for the last two years. My husband loves them blistered and pickled. We had Brad’s crazy cherries last year, and they were great. We are trying Brad’s atomic cherries this year. I can’t wait!!
@galethomas9383 Жыл бұрын
@@mlee7037 I can't wait to get my seeds started. I've already started some seeds knowing that it's early. I've heard of the blistering, not the pickling. Do you blister them and then pickle them or just pickle them. I know it may sound like a dumb question but like I said, I'm new to all of this.

Oh my, Katirina!! I grow them in my high tunnel and in the raised bed- field garden. Prolific in both spaces!! Don't overlook Katrina, if you only have a field-type garden. Carmens.....a love!! When beautifully red, I give them a good smoking, dry them, and make the most incredible smoked paprika!!! It's my grand daughter's absolute favorite. She will devour a whole one as a garden snack! Root veggies are a win! I grow many types which provide me with year-round produce. I have not purchase many root veggies for decades, as my garden provides for my family. Here in the North East, Waltham butternut is the jackpot winter squash. A bumper crop in 2022!! I even began Freeze Drying dozens of them.

Hey y'all, I love to hear what and why folks grow what they do and their impressions of the results. I love the Shishito peppers, however there is a Spanish cousin Padrón pepper, grown and cook the same way. The Padrón is a staple in Spanish meals the same as the Shishito this year I am growing both side by side! I am excited by the Badger Flame Beet maybe this or next year. The Honeynut butternut squash is wonderful as are all the variations of the butternut squash there is a orange butternut squash very nice also. I have never grown the tromboncino but I know both you and Ashley seem to love them so I always keep them in the back of my mind. I have started 21 pepper varieties and next week 15 tomato varieties some old some new.

Everyone seems to love the fruity sweet tomatoes and I always feel like an oddball seeking out the acidic ones haha! I love a good acidic or smokey tomatoes heavy on the 'umami' flavour topped with salt fresh out of the garden - perhaps this is why I don't like carrots or sweet potatoes either.. lol

How do you successfully battle vine borers? I'm not far from you, more southwest in Hot Springs, brandnew to thenproperty last spring, and they just decimated everything. It was awful. I love to grow huge varieties of pumpkins every year as well as soooo many winter squashes, but literally nothing survived. Any thoughts, suggestions, or previous videos you've made that might offer some ideas?

Did you and Tromboncino break up? I tried it first time last summer and it was wonderful! I didn't know it could keep growing and the skin would toughen to store like a butternut but will try that this summer. It was the only squash that made it through a massive invasion of squash bugs.The only other squash I got to harvest was a striped Cushaw that grew into a giant, tasted wonderful and I was so proud of that giant, tender, delicious squash - the deer and bugs got everything else. I'm hoping the weather will be a bit kinder than last year. Love that you told how to use the veg as that is so helpful - thanks.
