I couldn’t describe a more influential book as Braiding Sweetgrass as Asia has shared in her description. I too have cried reading almost every chapter. I have recommended this book to many friends, two of which just received their own copies! It is a stunning work and deeply moving. Robin Wall Kimmerer is a brilliant woman, and I’m so grateful she created this beautiful book of art 💗🌿

I was surprised at the three books you mentioned. I have never read them, and I have read a lot of herbal books. My most influential book, for becoming an herbalist was not even Non-Fiction, but Fiction and that was the Clan of the Cave Bear Series by Jean M. Auel. I am going to order Braiding Sweetgrass. Hi Asia, so glad I found you. What a gentle soul you are. I'm glad to see younger people with such a love for nature. I have The Secret Teaching of Plants (I keep lending it out) and Braiding Sweetgrass (that one is going nowhere. It was a gift and I am highlighting it, and blogging about it, and I have probably gotten truth tears but most of all I feel like I have to stop after each chapter and process the gift I just was given). I did get truth tears about a decade ago when I watched The Greening of the Loess Plateau at the beginning of a permaculture class. That was a PROFOUND moment. I had no idea that class would change my life. After an herbalist came to one of our classes I knew that was next for me. I took Rosemary Gladstar's correspondence herbalist course. I've been wanting to make flower essences but haven't yet, so I just ordered the first book you mentioned. I, too, love Matthew Wood's books and his 3 Earthwise Herbal books are prominent in my practice.

I relate to the truth cries. I am over halfway through braiding sweetgrass and cry so often I have to be mindful of when and where I’m listening to it. Another that has changed my life, even though I’m only 3/4 of the way through, is Women Who Run With Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes As a parent, Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne is one of my all time favorites and changed many things about my home and parenting style.

Mostly podcasts and documentaries confirmed the herbal path for me (especially the 1979 film "The Secret Life of Plants") Book wise though, I'd say Plant Spirit Medicine: A Guide to Working with Plant Consciousness by Pam Montgomery, Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism by Daniel Pinchbeck, and Herbal Vade Mecum by Gazmend Skenderi. The last one is more reference than inspirational, but it was the first tool that made me feel really empowered as a beginner herbalist. I also love Thomas Easley's Modern Herbal Dispensatory.

Dian Dincin Buchman's "Herbal Medicine" was the first book i studied at 18 years old. i found it in my mother's books, and she has no idea how she even got it. I feel like it was meant to be. it was a huge influence on me and was my first experience learning how to work with medicinal plants.

Thank you, dear Asia! These are lovely selections! Decades ago, I read the Carlos Castaneda series and was enthralled by Don Juan's use of sacred plants to travel to other realms. Recently, I took the Medicinal Plants course offered by Cornell University and found myself recalling parts of these books over and over as I went through the curriculum. My mom is from New Mexico and I somehow remembered these plants and my fascination with their hallucinogenic qualities has never left me. I have recently had the urge to re-read them, but I think I will read Braiding Sweetgrass first.

It was a long time ago but they are the illustrated encyclopedia of healing remedies by C Norman Shelly. The other one is Rodale’s illustrated encyclopedia of herbs! I love these two books 📚 they are older but very beautiful!

Wonderful selections! For me Sastun by Rosita Arvigo definitely. Reading it I felt enthralled--it's a captivating, dynamic story, and Rosita is a gifted story teller--privileged to received wisdom from both Rosita and Elijio Panti, and like I never wanted it to end. I recall rationing myself toward the end, and every night childishly exclaiming, "I love my book!" While not a book, Rosemary Gladstar's writing in her online course has felt deeply influential, truthful, inspiring. And I'm reading Sacred Plant Medicine by Buhner now--I felt ecstatic when I started it, like this is exactly what I need to be reading. It can feel a bit intimidating at times, the way he describes the responsibility and weight of being a healer--Sastun did too. Mostly it is a privilege to receive the deep knowledge he has cultivated.

Stephen Harold Buhner completely changed my world, love the Sacred Plant Medicine. It was like, yes, finally someone understands everything I've always felt, and put it into words!! I have read Plant Intelligence by him as well (and love his beer book, hehe). Braiding Sweetgrass is also like that for me, that deep truth, and a beauty with words... I feel like maybe the whole world should read this book.

Asia, I have the first book you showed. I will get the other two. They sound wonderful. My favorite all time book is All Women are Healers by Diane Stein, other great books-The Wild & Weedy Apothecary by Doreen Shababy, The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Wormwood. I have so many Alternative Medicine Books and they are all very special. One last book is The Book of Stones by Robert Simmons & Naisha Ahsian. Thanks for this forum. I am going to get your book too. Right after watching this video I went and grabbed myself a copy of The Secret Teaching of Plants and I'm only a few pages in and am already flowing with deep emotions and am quite convinced this is one of the most important books ever. It really puts into words a lot of what I have wondered and worried about. Looking forward to diving deeper into it! Any book I read more than once is profoundly influential. My top three most influential books would be: Fools Crow:Wisdom and Power (Thomas Mails), Plant Spirit Medicine (Stephan Harrod Buhner) and Braiding Sweetgrass (Robin Wall Kimmerer). One other would be Honoring the Medicine (Ken Cohen).

Oh my goodness. Braiding Sweetgrass is one of my all-time favorite books. It is so warm and inviting. It feels like home to me. The Peterson Guide to Wildflowers was my first plant book and it is so full of markings and stains and tears from years of use. My third choice is two books, A Northwoods Companion by John Bates. I love to read them every year along with the seasons. Not really plant books, although he talks about plants. More about appreciating the seasonal offerings around us.

Braiding Sweetgrass has been calling out to me for a number of months now. Just noticing it in the corner of my eye in a book store or it pops up on my amazon account "you might like" section. I'm new to herbalism so really have books that pop up as having influenced me. But, I did read from Rosemary Gladstar and I love her approach and her recipes! her instructions are really clear, too. My main calling is to be a writer. When I think of books that have influenced my writing, I think of: The Lord of the Rings, Riddlemaster Trilogy, Mists of Avalon, and Lucas (by Kevin Brooks). So now I'm trying to see what is similar in all of those, so I can see my niche and see how to shape my writing more. Thanks for this great video!

:-) I love the M.Scheffer books too. Around my house since childhood. You pronounced Mechthild just fine. Scheffer is more like this: Shaffah (probably comes from sheperd). My favourite books are by Wolf-Dieter Storl, an German-American Ethnobotanist. Escpecially one about Plant-Devas blew my mind, and yes, made me remember.

I hope to cross paths with these books soon!2 books have come to mind listening to you speak today- the first i found in a huge plastic bag full of esoteric books in Spanish on a street corner west of central park when i was home visiting my fam on long island (ive been in Spain for the past decade) The Third Eye by Tuesday Lobsang Rampa. There's this one part where the monks use gliders to fly through thenHimalayas to reach this magical part of the mountain which is dreamlike and lush to collect medicinal plants. (( i remembered this when listening to your plant alllies meditation)) i read the book in Spanish and then listened to it here on youtube read as an audiobook by BLUEfriend from Canada. The second book is called Anastasia and the Ringing Cedars of Russia which i absolurely loved and actually recorded my own audiobook here on my channel for people like me who want to multitask (read/knit or read/walk!)! Anyway ,i wonder if anyonehas read either of these books- very 'woo' but have changed my life! And Asia, see ya soon on Nat's self care club ;)

I should check those books out, thanks for sharing. My favorite, and really the only book I've used for 7 years, for medicinal remedies for all our ailments is Practical Herbalism by Phillip Fritchey. In that book he gives a lot of information and the ways to prepare and use 30-40 different plants internally and external for a variety of illnesses. It's a must have for me. It has kept us from going to the doctor for 7 years now. Thanks for sharing

Love this video! I'm really curious to get into these books! I wanted to share my 3 books that have brought me to the place I am today. The first one has tremendously helped me in understanding myself and brought to light a lot of inward growth. Your Power of Natural Knowing, by Vernon Howard. The second book came much later and has sparked the career for which I am following, it also opened my eyes to a greater open and compassionate love in my relationship, Spiritual Midwifery, if you are in a serious relationship, or expecting, I highly recommend this book. The third would have to be my very first herbal book. Its wonderfully organized and has a lot of great recipes you don't find in other books, Herbs for Health and Healing, by Kathi Keville. There are many but these three books resonated for me in a profound way starting at age 21: Doctor from Llasa ( A Walk-in); A Souls Journey by Peter Richelieu; The Thiaooba Prophecy. Of all plants, herbs grow best for me. Have been researching the stone Shungite (a gift from space) the deposit of which had an 'upgrade' in February 2020 when a meteorite exploded over it in blue light. As a consequence, it will now protect us up to 5G whereas before it could only go to 4G.
