Fun Frog Fact: Most captive poison dart frogs actually have very little toxicity, if any, because their skin secretions become toxic from their diet of certain arthropods and plants. Most people who keep them would not be giving them poisonous ants and opt for safer food. Fun Salamander Fact: The reason salamanders in mythology are often linked to fire, despite being amphibians, is because *as* amphibians, they love nothing more than dark, wet places to rest safely. Some dark, wet places are inside of logs. So when people would toss damp logs on fire to start drying them out, the salamander would flee for their lives, leading people to believe they were born from the fire. Their red, orange, and yellow colors also convinced people.

The first conversation is almost EXACTLY what happened with me in my first relationship, although they admittedly handled it a lot better than my teenage self. It was terribly, nightmarishly toxic, but neither of us did anything wrong. We were young, fucked up, and figuring it out and it’s okay for relationships to end. I feel like both of those people, from what we’re privy to, are doing their best and valid in their own experiences. You don’t have to stay in a relationship if it’s one-sided out of fear of hurting the other person. It’ll be okay, and it is genuinely better in the long run to just say it, even if it’s messy and goes wrong and hurts. You will grow, and your life will get better. Their biggest mistake was, in my mind, going back so soon instead of giving eachother space to develop as individuals and process their own emotions.

In case anyone’s curious, the happy one looks like a Javan Tree Frog, and they don’t seem to be poisonous. Like the froggy texter said, poisonous frogs are even more wildly colored, and usually have black spots. A lot of them aren’t fatal to humans-some you can actually touch, as long as you wash your hands after. The one that is insta-death is the golden one. It’s one of the most poisonous animals on the planet. Also, speaking of turtles and frogs, check out the turtle frog for something ugly-cute
@elenalizabeth4 ай бұрын
It’s similar to an Australian tree frog (known as “orange bellied tree frog” or “graceful tree frog”). It’s pupil slits are also horizontal, however the Graceful tree frog tends to have more orange coloured eyes instead of golden like the Javan tree frog, and unlike the “red eyed tree frog” who’s pupil slits are vertical. None are toxic. Yellow or blue are bad colours for frogs to be though. Yellow or blue means “no no touchy me”.
@nomoretwitterhandles9 ай бұрын
Okay, that first post gave me the clearest idea about both of the people involved. The OP is absolutely the reason their ex broke up with them. Allow me to explain. Basically, while their ex did not say "exactly the right thing" (as anyone new to dating would do), they still tried very hard to be mature. They knew that despite the love they felt, they couldn't be in a relationship at this time, and decided to cut things off. Then OP responds with "oh but my mental health has been declining..." and "I'm sorry but..." and "What I want is selfish..." etc., which are all GUILT TRIPPING TACTICS. It's no wonder OP got dumped; their ex must have been incredibly stressed around OP. You can tell by the way they respond "I don't know what to do," only for OP to be unhelpful and manipulative (AGAIN) by saying "I was just being honest about how I felt..." like yeah, how you "feel" is obviously upset. No breakup is without its problems. But oh my god that is no reason to guilt trip the person you claim to "love." "Oh I can't do anything about it so I just have to listen to that..." YEAH NO SH*T OP!! THAT'S WHAT A BREAKUP IS!!! The reason I know these signs is because I once dated someone who, at the beginning of our relationship, would never support me through hard times. At the time we were dating, I was living through one of the most traumatic periods of my life (long story short, I was not living at home while in HS). Whenever I was depressed, THEY would make a big deal about how TERRIBLE of a partner THEY are... because I was depressed at the situation I was stuck in?? It was a tactic to make me comfort them (for no reason) despite ME being in a traumatic situation. Closer to the end of our relationship they kept threatening suic*de if we broke up... and just as I was thinking about ending the relationship, I got wind of a text message they had sent to someone about how I'm a "sh-tty person" for wanting them to at least listen to me when I'm having a hard time. Yeah, they called me names behind my back instead of just communicating with me because they could not ever handle being held accountable. So I dumped them over text, unlike my planned breakup in-person. Needless to say, my life got insanely better after that lol. TLDR; OP was clearly trying to guilt trip their ex. Who knows what OP was doing to their ex while they were in a relationship... makes me worry considering what I've been through. Good for the ex though for cutting that person off!! (And posting to Reddit after a week over something so normal too?? My god OP must be awful...)
@cats19709 ай бұрын
I've been OP in the past. My ex deleted their entire account. It hurt real bad at the time but it was warranted. OP should stop trying to have a relationship and focus on therapy. Breaking up for mental health isn't a selfish move, it's medical treatment. The fact OP thought of it as a one-sided interest is telling.
@ahumanmerelybeing9 ай бұрын
I thought a lot of that was odd too. "I respect your decision. BUT OH I FEEL SO TERRIBLE RIGHT NOW but there's nothing I can do about because I respect your decision. I HAVE NOTHING TO LIVE FOR but I respect your decision." Expressing how you feel is great. But this "I'm being so mature about this but you should feel terrible about how I feel" thing is manipulative.
@marycook90078 ай бұрын
I am so glad someone else caught that. As someone who’s been on the receiving end of that shit before, I immediately got sketched out by OP but thought maybe I was just a bitter old hag or something lol. I hope they both get the help they need and can move on though. (Also your comment was extremely validating in ways I can’t really articulate, and even though it’s been years now, I didn’t realize how much I still needed to read that. Thank you ❤)
@qzamboni5 ай бұрын
Their ex had just delivered their decision not to get back together, after telling OP they loved them, and then asked OP how they felt about it. They told them how they felt about it. I wouldn't judge the rest of the relationship by this moment. I'm sorry for your past trauma, threatening suic*de on breaking up is not okay.

Growing up, my sister and I used to spend a lot of time catching frogs, grasshoppers and lizards and setting up tiny zoos. We had no decent frog books at the time (for Zambia), so we used our encyclopædias to decide that a lovely black and orange type was a poison dart frog. Turns out, no dart frogs in Africa. But it IS the only local frog that can poison you without you eating it (although eating it could actually kill you, touching it would at most give you a rash), so we weren't so far off in our judgement of "bright colour = poison" (One of the other frogs we have around here is a rain frog. The whistle is a distress call. They sound like a cross between a cricket and a bird when they are singing)

And I really try to catch myself when I am tempted to go into old habits, trauma responses (like jealousy out of nowhere) and other old crazy shit. I'm friends with one of my exes and i think you're right, i was friends with them first and we didn't date long, also we were practically kids so it doesn't count. 😅 The breakup was messy but we ended up living together as friends for a bit years later.
