Fun Fact: The Deathwatch is a unique Space Marine Chapter under the jurisdiction of the Inquisition's Ordo Xenos. Unlike other Chapters, who share the same geneseed lineage, the Deathwatch is comprised of veterans from all Chapters. Service in the Deathwatch is typically supposed to be temporary, with many seeing it as an honor to serve, and will return to their chapter once their service has been fulfilled. As such, they will wear the symbol of their Chapter of origin on one of their pauldrons. For example: Darius - Dark Angels Beren - Black Templars Ulfar - Space Wolves Kelstros - Blood Angels There are, however, cases where a Space Marine chooses to stay with the Deathwatch permanently. Either because they were disowned by their Chapter of origin and serve in the Deathwatch as penance, or because they believe that they serve the Emperor best as part of the Deathwatch. These are the Blackshields, and they paint over the Chapter of origin black to signify that they belong to the Deathwatch.

A tiny primer on 40k: - Humanity spread through the stars and became wholly seperated from each other, the idea of humans on other worlds became a myth for god knows how long - A literal timeless Ubermench atheist guy (why he was a superman is unimportant) decides he wants to usher humanity into a reason-based utopia (through horrible violence, obviously). He uses his super-genes to create super-soldiers so he can conquer the galaxy. He does. - To his (and everyone's) horror, turns out demons are real, and every alien in the universe wants everyone else dead. - In a twist of dramatic irony, after the Emperor's death, having styled himself as a sort of secular god, his followers worship his ambiguously haunted and / or semi-alive corpse. - His empire, which was already pretty awful, becomes many magnetudes more awful in it's bid for survival against the xenos and the forces of Chaos. The majority of humanity is essentially enslaved, and humankind lives in a perpetual state of semi-justified xenophobic paranoia. Humanity's knowledge slides milennia backwards and is replaced by blind faith and hatred-fueled willpower.

@@jeffk862 The standard bolt is set to .75 calibre, whereas Heavy Bolter rounds are larger, at 1.00 calibre Standard Bolts In bolts, a tiny amount of conventional explosive charge is utilised alongside rocket propellant. The rocket-propellant is carefully fused to ignite just after leaving the barrel, alleviating any possibility of pressure build-up. The bolt then accelerates away towards the target under its own power. Standard Bolter ammunition is designed to penetrate the target and then detonate, causing immense damage and leaving little opportunity for survival. The standard Bolt Round consists of: BS Standard bolt A solid-fuel rocket propellant base An outer casing containing conventional charge Gyrostabiliser Mass-reactive fuse. Has a split-second timer to delay detonation upon impact until after the shot penetrates the target. Hardened diamantine penetrating tip. Getting into the lore of Warhammer 40k is going to be a chore because it's told across dozens of books, but if you want to see Space Marines being space marines, check out the fan animation, Astartes (I think I spelled that correctly). Also, think of the Tyranids as a mix of the Flood from Halo and the xenomorphs in the Alien movies. They are an existential threat to all life in the galaxy a terrifying force of biological horror. Under the direction of the hive mind, they consume ALL biomass from a planet, leaving nothing but barren rocks behind, a fleet even carved a wave of dead planets in their wake. They use the biomass to multiply and grow. Each bit of information and conscious knowledge from their prey is added to the hive mind collective. Take out one tyranid, and it'll simply be replaced using biomass. Nobody knows the origin of the Tyranids, nobody knows just how many tyranids there are. And my brother picked them for his army. Yeah, Warhammer 40k is an army simulator tabletop game. A lot of the lore is fluff that explains the context as exposition. You don't technically need it to enjoy Warhammer 40k. But it is an expensive hobby, so watch your wallet if you ever decide to get into the tabletop experience. No shame if you just play the video games. I was first exposed to the franchise through the PS2 game Fire Warrior. Which is partially why I picked the Tau.

Darktide is also a super fun WH40K game where you play as a lesser human soldier against the hordes of chaos plague.

SM2 has been brilliant so far, I've made it I believe 2/3rds the way through and I've been having a good time of it but it's clear the games scaled for 3 players which I believe the campaign supports aswell

I started playing 40K in 1996, when I was 14. I’ve taken multiple breaks through the years and now I have a son who is 14. I bought this game for him and just sat and watched him play yesterday. This is what we were imagining in the 90s and it’s so bad ass that it exists. The closest thing we had was starship troopers.

Gotta say, mad props to you for actually READING THE TUTORIALS. I'm so sick of people failing at games because they didn't read the messages THE GAME LITERALLY PAUSED FOR to explain the basic mechanics. I know I'm late to the party here, but gun strikes are a great way to save ammo and instagib enemies.

warhammer 40k has been going for nearly 40 years now, but if you want a good (and long) story the 30k era has a really strong saga of books called the horus heresy, its a major foundation of why the imprium is how it is

A very underrated, but great intro to 40k and the lore is Arbitor Ian's vid called WARHAMMER 40k TIMELINE IN 20 MINS. In that, I feel he covers the timeline extremely well for people new to the 40k universe.

Since you asked, super quick rundown The Warhammer 40000 tabletop game (40k for short) originally began back in the 1980s, as a sci-fi themed spin-off of Warhammer fantasy battles (which is why many of the early aliens in 40k are based on stock fantasy creatures like orcs, elves, and dwarves - Tyranids were a later addition, and were primarily inspired by xenomorphs from the Alien movies and the Arachnids from Starship Troopers) It is HEAVILY inspired by the DUNE and Starship Troopers novel series, as well as the Eternal Champion novels by Michael Moorcock (especially The History of the Runestaff, Song of the Black Sword, and The Dancers at the End of Time)

So while not too familiar with the lore, I do know a few things. 1. There are multiple armies/factions/chapters within the Imperium. All of them are unique. 2. It's not uncommon for soldiers to gain the respect of the a Space Marine. It's depends on the soldier and the Space Marine that's in the same place. 3. I think, there is a chapter Master who is a wise and chill old man. I might be wrong. Also, I just realized that the Space Marines could have been an inspiration for the Brotherhood of Steel from the Fallout series. Namely due to how there are chapters which are all different from each other, very into their codex, xenophobic, and have since strayed away from their first leader's beliefs.
@dagonofthedepths2 ай бұрын
I think your talking about Lord Commander Dante but really most chapter masters are pretty old. Most space marine vets are over 200 and what is "old" is a chapter to chapter thing. Like I think the chapter master of the Ultramarines is like 400 but you go to the space wolves and Logan is around 800 and Dante is 1500+ all of them are really considered the old dogs of their respective chapters.
@jbubu11742 ай бұрын
You are kinda right, to be précise every chapter is 1k Space marines lead by in fact one chapter master who prove himself throught combat he is worthy. Every chapter come from a waaaay larger army called légion (about 100k marines at least), but they were dispatch in chapter of 1000 marines to avoid a too powerfull army turning back to the imperium, after a massive rebellion back in the 30th millenia.

Man needs to react to the Astartes Short Film. I also recommend Bricky’s Legion video for an introduction, and a (relatively) medium sized channel called Islander and Koda for finer detail on certain factions.
@crim50nr8er2 ай бұрын
I do hope you continue this series, ESPECIALLY with a friend. I'm sure it'll be LOADS of fun for you all to go through the Imperium to rid the galaxy of all Xenos. As for lore stuff to react to, If you don't mind reading some books, I highly recommend the Horus Herecy book series that goes over the history of the greatest betrayal the Imperium of Man has ever faced in its lifetime.
@monseigneurlerichelieu77392 ай бұрын
Great reaction!🤘If you’re looking for a lore introduction, I suggest : Luetin’s “WTF is warhammer 40k”. Good overview of the different sides of the hobby too. Luetin’s the very best in 40k lore vid for me, alongside Baldermort, who has more of a lyrical and creative writing approach. Then Bricky’s “every warhammer faction in a nutshell” part 1 and two”. A lot of info well paced and funny. Both could be good reactions as well.

I HIGHLY recommend Bricky’s lore videos on Warhammer 40K as he has videos on all the different factions within the 40K universe, the timeline, and he has videos breaking down all the different parts within the Imperium (humanity). Those lore videos are geared towards newcomers and was actually how I was introduced into the lore for 40K.
