If you’re the late friend, you cannot mix your household chores in with getting ready. You will literally be late every single time. These girls know damn well they have to do a full face plus hair but wanna wash dishes and do laundry when they have somewhere to be!! Make it make sense.

The vibe I'm getting is that some of these people have attention/concentration and sometimes even motivation issues. I can see how someone who has attention issues, would be generally overwhelmed, over extended and over-promising things when it's not realistic time-wise.

A lot of Black people know that staying home and stacking their coins is the best way to go but sometimes family make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to have any peace. They want you to be financially an adult but biologically a child. And we understand that it’s their house and their rules so parents can’t get upset when we say, “you’re absolutely right, that’s why I have to go.”

I cannot stand habitually late people. I realized that at 20 when I had a friend who was literally always late for everything, we would end up missing stuff or missing out on stuff because of it. It got irritating when I would rearrange my whole schedule to accommodate them or wasted my time waiting for them, when I could’ve been doing other stuff. I understand being late cuz you’re looking for an outfit or whatever, but doing it all the time, that’s irresponsible and selfish, especially once you hit a certain age. Don’t get mad when people stop inviting you to certain events because your lateness impacts a lot of stuff.

I am glad that in my 20's I started buying cloth diapers since I researched them since I was 15 an I love that choice I made because the designs are so spooky&cute. an at 24 I started buying baby clothes in our style along with different bands in baby and toddler clothes that we both like since we've been dating since we were 20&22

This is what you wanted. I bet Kanye doesn't even care abt the black community, its bull. I agree with everything you said, especially the teen pregnancy take. Not only are these teenagers making such decisions but… they’re endangering their child when they publicize *EVERYTHING*. They’re so focused on the fame and financial aspect of this scenario that they tend to neglect the child’s well-being. They’re opening doors to predators and leaving their children very little room to decide if they even want to be on the Internet/tv.

The thing about being late really gets me because I have ADHD and still manage to not be late to anything when I know people are counting on me being there. Time management is very hard for me, it can be difficult to get things done, and I sometimes feel like I don’t ever have time for anything. ⚠️THAT BEING SAID⚠️ I’m very conscious of that fact, and as a result I still make a genuine effort to value other’s time because I know how hard it can be to make my own. I put my own stuff on hold if I know I have a commitment I’ve already agreed to. No matter how messy my personal life gets, no matter how much I’m struggling with a neurological disorder that I’m likely to have for the rest of my life, I won’t be caught DEAD being the flaky person that you can’t rely on. Never.

Same! I hate the idea of inconveniencing people, so I try reeeeally hard & give myself ages to get ready, & I DO manage to be on time or no more than 5 minutes late.

As a late friend who struggles with ADHD, give grace to your late friends. YOU are able to plan your time out. As someone with ADHD, I can plan my time out, but my brain is constantly pulling me in a million different directions. Like she said, she never sat down, so she was moving from task to task. Some people use medicine to cope, but others figure out routines to help them with time management. If you have a random event that’s not in your daily routine it can become hard to manage that new time. It’s so frustrating and anxiety inducing when people rush me for situations where patience is an option because there’s really no rush. I learned people who are really strict with their time tend to also be very impatient 😅

It's not again like I want to be late, or I took my sweet time. I really struggle and I know it's annoying to others. I constantly put myself down for this and get frustrated to the point of a break down. I have severe depression and ADHD, so I know now these are key things as to why I'm this way. What I find more rude, is not telling someone you might run a little late. Or not trying to understand why someone is late. I don't know, not everyone is doing it on purpose.

Like I can set timers to wake up early and prepare the day before a still end up losing time It's an everyday struggle even with medicine. I’m late to almost everything and I agree that it can be seen as rude, although personally that is never my intention. I suffer from really bad time blindness and everything seems to take me 3x as long as it does everyone else. I wouldn’t say it’s as simple as “get better time management,” but it is something I and others in my position need to work to improve on. If it’s really important, you best believe i’m going to be an hour and a half early because I apparently have no in between. Edit: I should also note that I have ADHD so that is at least part of it. Additionally, I’m referring to the general happenings of my life. I don’t understand how people can be late to a hangout with friends or a date and not even let them know???

I DO NOT hang with late people. If I know I'm going out, I plan & make my outfit 7-2 day's prior, do my hair the 2 hours before, sort & do makeup 1 hour before. All house chores are done at 9am, new sheet's put on so I come into clean sheets. If you're not ready 10 minutes before we need to leave it's, "I'll meet you there". Ain't got time for it.

As someone who is late to everything… I am very sorry it is a terrible habit. I find that this is very important in close relationships such as friendships but never at work… in my field nothing starts on time so me being reasonably late saves me from unnecessary lingering. Yet I do make it a point to not commit to a specific time or let people know at least an hour ahead of I am running late. If I am not on the road 30 minutes prior I will be late I know myself

Being late to events is not an easy habit to break actually. Typically it’s caused by other issues like not knowing how to prioritize, or not having an internal clock, ADHD. It requires real work, have some grace or just stop associating with late people. 9/10, a person being late has no effect on most plans yall gotta get over it. Why wasn't I expecting this last point at all 🤣 As for the girl who systematically arrives late despite her efforts, she should apply the "semi-lie" technique. At the exact moment she sets foot outside her home, she sends a text saying "I'm coming, I'm on my way" to the people she has to meet. A way to tell the truth and exaggerate at the same time. But to be honest although punctuality is very important it must still be said that it is very frustrating to be yelled at for being late when you have given everything, you are sweaty and that in your head you say to yourself "I literally deserve a medal for being only 50 minutes late" 😭

Heavy on the teen pregnancy one.. I'm 17 and a junior in highschool. This one girl (we'll leave her name out of it) used to be my friend but she would do literally any and everything for attention and sympathy from lying about her parents divorce, to apparently getting kicked out and living in her car that she apparently had to even lying about being pregnant and miscarriage. (We found out she lied bc she admitted she was a virgin). But now that she really is pregnant with SOMEONE ELSE'S boyfriends baby and he wants nothing to do with her or the child I almost feel bad for her. She genuinely thinks that this is gonna be a cute cuddly dream but irl she's alone, a teen whose most likely going to have to drop out, she's sacrificing her undeveloped body AND HER LIFE to have a dead beat's child, and she's given up a huge part of her life not to mention all the kids at school I hear bullying her... it's truly a sad and traumatic thing to see unfold in front of my eyes.. and now that unborn baby has to be apart of this dysfunctional life. No stable income, no two parent home, no mother or father who is mentally mature enough for a child... I'm praying other teens don't idolize this behavior and realize that there's more to babies than them being cute and cuddly. Because when it's all said and done that's 1/10th of motherhood.

Me and my friend made plans with these other 4 girls to go to a mall and shop for dance dresses and we planned on getting there at 12 and meeting up at 12:15pm. We all agreed and then went. It was 12:30 and they still didn’t show up and we asked where they were and they said they didn’t even leave thier House yet. Not only that we all live in the country and it is a 45 minute drive to the mall. So long story short after a bunch of bs excuses they came at 4:30pm. We planned on getting picked up by our parents ts at 5. And when we said we had to go they got mad at us. EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE 4 HOURS LATE.

I feel the HBCU opinion was unfair and lacked nuance and possibly research. Here's why. 1. You commented that the donation is going to HBCU students, but it is going to the school. HBCU students rarely ever see the direct benefits of the donation bc there is so much to be fixed at our schools bc of lack of money. So in actuality, both students require support. Spelman College is the #1 HBCUs and still has housing, food, and resource crisis that directly affect the students. 2. Also, you commented that HBCUs don't give funding. Well that's bc most don't have money...hence why they need donations. Bc of the race gap in America and the difference in how wealth is trickled down for white families and up for Black families means, PWI schools often receive more alums/family and friend donations after a student graduates, which can happen on a yearly or quarterly basis. This is not true for HBCUs. Why? Bc generally, when Black people move up the financial ladder, their financial gains are used to support their parents, siblings, and other relatives, unlike our white counterparts. Therefore a significant amount of the donations received by HBCUs are by the wealthy, not alum. Therefore donations happen on a less frequent basis. 3. However, the statement/belief that HBCUs don't give funding is not entirely true. The real truth is that bigger private HBCUs don’t provide that much funding. (i.e., Howard, Spelman) However, there are 107 HBCUs, and many lesser-known private and public institutional actually give generous financing to increase their student body(i.e., Johnson C. Smith, Morris Brown College). 4. The true difference between HBCU and PWI students is the experience, not the financials. HBCU students go to school in an environment that is catered to support them, so even though we don’t have money/resources, we have genuine love and support from our administrators, staff, professors, and peers. And you can get that at any HBCU, not just the 3-5 that everyone knows about. I hope this comment gives some context into the real realities of HBCU students. ❤️

I understand the culture and being surrounded by my people but cost is a very important factor in making a college decision. As someone that is very low income, I would never put myself or my family 20k in debt yearly just for an HBCU experience.

Also, what is this idea that homeownership is some sort of requirement That everybody should be striving for? i’ve never understood that, I’m very comfortable, in saying I have no desire to own a home. My parents were not homeowners and it was not something modeled for me nor was it imprinted as a necessity in life. I understand the generational wealth aspect. I just think it’s kind of a fallacy, the idea of working your entire life to pay off a debt just to think that that is automatically wealth. if you pay off your house by the end of your life and are able to pass it onto your children, that’s wonderful but in that same span of time I could be renting and investing and building wealth for my children as well. Not only that, but it’s an inheritance that comes with plenty of caveats, with inflation MANY people cant afford the property taxes every year on that house they inherited from their parents. I also don’t agree with the notion that renting is “just throwing money away“, I see it as a trade off where I pay a little bit more every month to have the relative freedom to live and I please and have somebody else handle *all the maintenance and repairs in my home* After the housing crash I think the higher ups want us to believe that we should be throwing our entire lives into homeownership and that’s why we don’t talk about the benefits of renting! I was protected from eviction at a time when many people were not protected from foreclosure and if the housing market crash wasn’t enough to prove why the myth of home ownership is a smokeshow then the pandemic definitely was for me. Different people (and generations) have completely different ends to different means.
