I've never in my life seen so much overseeded perennial ryegrass in one place...
I got a chance this winter to make a trip to Arizona to visit one of the largest sod farms in the country and talk with Jimmy Fox from Evergreen Turf. Jimmy is an absolute wealth of knowledge and talked about various types of warm season Bermuda grasses that they grew on the farm. Many of these are specialized for golf courses and they also grow sod for the Arizona Cardinals as well. Because it was winter time there was a lot of overseeded ryegrass on top of this Bermuda and it was incredible to see acres of it. Special thanks as well to Chase from Turf Merchants, Inc. for inviting me!

Great sod farm documentary, Ryan. So gracious of this guy to give you a grand tour of the operation. The average sports fan probably has no idea how much work and re-sodding goes into maintaining a stadium playing surface. Cannot wait for part 2!!!

After watching Connor's video, I'd say you have a significantly more luscious mullet foundation. Looking forward to Pt 2. I had no idea that they'd only get 8 games or so before they had to re-sod those playing surfaces. That's a crazy amount of upkeep.

Texas A&M is using latitude for its field currently. I was looking at Tiftuf, but I wanted a seed, not sod. The best Bermuda seed out there right now is Monaco bermudagrass. And that's what I'm going for right now. I'm in Texas and seeded 2 weeks ago, I'm just now getting sprouts. So excited!

@@ryanknorrlawncare it really is something to see if you love turf. The farm I went to was growing a blend of bentgrass for Congressional Country Club (US Open course) and my dad and I walked a bunch of it. It was mesmerizing. It looked like the turf never ended. Out of the 162 acres, all but 4 acres were already contracted with golf courses.

What is the soil degradation like on a large scale sod farm like that? Is is similar to monocropping of something like corn? I'm curious how he keeps the soil rich enough year round on that many acres. Looks as if they are chunking at least an inch of soil on each sod strip
