All the animals are missing that up and down motion which provides the creatures with weight, but yes lovely models. 2:43 in particular, you can almost imagine a crane holding up the animal as it's trying to walk. It's like walking whilst being carried.

The coloring is very impressive, but the animation is missing the subtler movements that make a creature come alive. Weight on the feet, hair moving after body mass, that sort of thing. Most noticeable to me were the cats, both big and small. Front feet don't pivot in one plane. When a cat picks up it's front feet, the foot angles toward the middle as it swings forward. That then makes the paw appear to hit the ground outer toes first, then inner toes second. Cats and lions are elastic and their bodies move fluidly. Their motion "rolls" ; from the sway of the spine to the rocking of the shoulders, to the way the paws engage the ground. You're animations are close though. Perhaps observe some actual feline walking sequences. Domestic cats walk the same way, but without the weight on their paws so much. Oh, and also your deer are too stiff. They are longer limbed too. They move in short periods, stopping to listen or graze frequently. They walk only in groups most of the time, and the ears are constantly listening for danger.

You can totally see the improvement! You used the shoulder joints more and more as you went along, which is great. The only one I really have a beef with is the bison run; it's back legs seem to barely touch the ground. I feel like an animal of that size would impact the ground with a lot more force. Otherwise keep up the great work.

This dude has the basic motions down, but the subtleties..... aren't really there. The animation isn't smooth. While there are parts of an animal that move in jerky ways, the limbs, body, and, well... most everything is too stiff. When parts of an animal move, it distorts the area affected by and around the movement. Muscles bulge, tendons pull taught, skin stretchs and creases.... it all effects each other. Here, it just feels like they paid attention to the individual parts.... but not how they fit together. It's much too robotic. It's definitely the most apparent when you look at the limbs, but you can see the stiffness around the ears, neck, and tail. I'm not the best with words so, TL;DR: IT JUST DOESNT "FLOW"! *grumbles* even if you stripped these animations down to their literal skeletons, the gaits are just URGH!!! I'm by no means a pro in any sense of the word (and I've only ever done 2D animations) but it still frustrates me. You don't need to be able to point out every single muscle and what it does to be good at animation (though it would certainly help), but you need to know the "blocks" of shapes that form the main muscles and how they "flow" into each other. Sorry for ranting, I'm into art and also ill at the moment.

Dude he's using 3dsmax, not Houdini..
@cats-hv2lm7 жыл бұрын
I’m not familiar with that program, I haven’t had the opportunity to work in 3D yet :P but anyways, ya, he’s not a houdini but it’s not a magic trick that I’m talking about. The movement of body parts affect other body parts, so I’m just saying I want to see more of that. Not saying it’s easy...... just saying it could be more polished. With quality models like that, you can really work some wonders!
@xl0007 жыл бұрын
Houdini is the name of an actual high end 3d program, compared to which 3dsMax is a toy. Everything you described can be done in H16.5
@cats-hv2lm7 жыл бұрын
PFFT I’m sorry! I thought you were saying that he needed to be a houdini to animate like that! xD I’ve wanted to try doing stuff in 3D, but I haven’t had the chance and I’m unfamiliar with all the programs out there. Sorry for the misunderstanding, haha
@Roxirin6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you completely. Whilst his modelling skills are good, the animations lack fluidity and the spines definitely don't bend nearly enough. Plus, the tails always seem to move oddly, and the head/neck movement isn't correct in lots of them. Still, you can see their slight improvement between the first and last!

The running cycle of the lion was fantastic. As for the walking, i suggest making the front torso to rely or be more shaggy as lions often crouch unconsciously when walking. I'm not really sure though, 'cause i'm just an amateur on animals :P

You're very talented, but since this was about four years ago, I know you have improved. Some of the walk/run cycles were kinda stiff, but I really loved the wolf walk cycle, and the lion walk cycle. There's definitely areas to improve upon, but you're doing pretty great! Just work on spines and more fluid and light motions in faster paces. Also pay attention to gaits. Some of them just looked off- walking pace trots, and you don't really have gallops/running gaits foot placement down for all animals just yet. Besides this and some other stuff people have covered, you're doing amazing! Easily the best realistic animation I've seen in a long while.
