Proper tuxedo protocol is to wear no wristwatch. A pocket watch is acceptable.
@hespokestyle6 жыл бұрын
@@davel8033 Donny is referring to the watch I'm wearing during the talking portions. However, on the topic of not wearing a watch with a tuxedo--that is a total myth. I wrote an entire post on it previously, discussing both sides of the argument. You can read that here: hespokestyle.com/black-tie-watch/ However, I will bring it right to the point here with this quote from Alan Flusser, who literally wrote the book on men's style: "Simplicity should govern the choice of jewelry for formal wear. Studs and matching cufflinks can be made of plain gold, black enamel, or semi-precious stone. Mother-of-pearl, also handsome, is perhaps more appropriate for white tie. Fine sets of studs and matching cufflinks can be found in antique shops that specialize in old jewelry (the most interesting examples are those made between 1890 and 1930). You might also look for a gold pocket watch and chain. If you choose to wear a wristwatch, remember that the thinner the watch, the more tasteful it is. Black bands are recommended.” If you want to disagree with Mr. Flusser, be my guest! But I'm inclined to heed his advice. BUT, as in all matters of style, it's a personal choice. So if you don't want to wear a watch with a tux, that's fine.

Beautiful tux I'm in the process of making mine in black also and think I will follow you into the 4 1/2 a half inch wide grosgrain lapel and thin stripe on the slacks. It think it gives it an extra luxurious look. I am keeping the pocket opening material like material as the jacket. You have a good point there and its a cleaner look this way. Im not doing anything with the cuffs but I like the fact that you did such an awesome job with it. I found a lady here west of Boton who does custom bow ties and she made me a gorgeous black oversized grosgrain bow tie to go with it for $80. I got a special custom pair of tux shoes from Liam Michael shoes to compliment the whole thing. Now to get out there and wear it.........🙂

Amazing! So much attention to detail. I am a British Asian and I had my suit - a sherwani - made in India by Lals of London. It had to match with the season and the venue, a Cheshire farm in the British summertime, but it also had fo reflect my Bengali culture, so it was a muted and off white pastel-type colour with a regal feel. Even the way I held my shawl (scarf) mattered that day. #TeamAttentionToDetail

Hahaha. Well, I'm married so I don't care about that!
@ottoe49253 жыл бұрын
So sorry, I'm new to this channel, but you're so much into these style questions that I really wonder one thing: (at least) in Europe (from where I am), a Tux is considdered to be worn after 06:00 p.m. only (exceptions for weddings after 4:00 p.m. - did you get married that late?). The equivalent to the tux for the day is the "Stresemann" suit (almost identical to a cutaway, however with simpler black / charcoal jacket). The most formal suit would be the cutaway during the day and the tailcoat ("white tie") for the evening / night events. The other thing I was a little surprised about is that you say, stand-up collar shirts are not worn with a tux. I checked and found in my books that the stand-up collar shirts are particularly to be worn with a tux... . A really funny thing is the bow tie that you showed with that clip. Never seen this before. Usually, you get them ready tied with a latch (?) and adjustable over here. Looks quite funny when worn with a stand up collar since this is visible. However, most people I know have it like this. And when you even go to a high end haberdasher and ask for a bow tie to tie by oneself, first thing is that the salespersons raise their eyebrows... . Just btw: Guess, the surprise at the end is that Robin is either grabbing your but - or maybe, she's just checking on your wallet ... :-) - actually both not exactly good manners... :-) - more a joke, I guess...

since you were so inspired by the bond look I kinda wish you had worn a tool watch. Bond might be looking dapper in a tux but he's always ready for whatever the night might throw at him. Something with a thin case but tooly at the same time would have been perfect.
@hespokestyle4 жыл бұрын
I mean, a tux is a tux is a tux in some ways--many have worn one other than Bond! When it comes to style like that, I'm not about trying to match that style exactly. For me, it's a little obvious if someone wears a tux and throws on a Sub, you know? I like everything to be in harmony. And for me, that's a thin, time-only watch.

Fantastic flourishes! Very Tony Stark. Love the papillon/butterfly bow tie meaning. Minor trivia for a style and watch lover related to weddings. Prince William wore an Omega Seamaster (mid size no less), to his. I own this very watch and am first to admit is not the pinnacle of watch sophistication, but for him it had sentimental value, which goes to show that style is as much about personal meaning and sentimental substance, as it is chasing trends... I also mention because I bought this watch while living in the Bahamas, and I love the fun inside nods to Bond and British royalty. Yet another tie-in to fun with fit, trends, and legacy of the style giants who precede. Great content! All the best on the marriage and beyond.

Amazingly done, 10/10 on every detail. Love your attention to detail on all your outfits. I always say all these small details on their own make a small difference but together they are what elevates a well dressed man to an amazingly well dressed man. It adds that factor that a person not in the know can not pinpoint a single detail but it just "feels and looks" better for some reason. Personally will not be wearing a Tuxedo to my upcoming wedding as I would never use it again and it would be a shame to spend upwards of 1500$ on a beautiful piece that would see no wear. Thank you for sharing this beautiful memory with us. Your tuxedo is really sharp and elegant, but I have a question why didn't you go for a shawl lapel ? peak lapel is really formal but shawl lapel is in the top of both peak and notch lapels . And what I know is a tuxedo should always be with shawl lapel next to the dinner jacket.
@hespokestyle6 жыл бұрын
First, thanks for your nice comment. You're very welcome. Hope to inspire others to put the same type of thought into a garment for their special day. Second, where did you get your information that a tux should only have a shawl lapel? That's quite incorrect. Tuxedos can have any kind of lapel, including notched, peak, or shawl. The lapel style you go with is a personal choice and has a lot to do with how you want the tuxedo to project itself. I own both a single and double-breasted tux, both have a peak. I like the structure and formality and it was what I wanted. A shawl lapel is always elegant, but more relaxed, in my opinion, which is why I chose that style for the dinner jacket. When the time comes that I get into a midnight blue tux, I will probably do a shawl lapel. There really aren't any wrong choices--it's more about what you want to project.
@jleo98156 жыл бұрын
@@hespokestyle I said that because as we both know the tuxedo is the most formal men's wear peace so it should be combined with the most formal peak lapel which is shawl. But as you told me it's a question of taste, because at the end they are all tuxedos and you should only wear the style that you like the most. Thank you for correcting me and for the new information ❤

Hey Brian, quick question, the glasses you wore throughout the video; are they prescription? I don't need prescription glasses but would love to wear 'clear' lens glasses, what are your thoughts?

They're by Tom Ford: shopstyle.it/l/XohG Most of my glasses are prescription, though I do have a couple pairs with clear, non-Rx lenses.

You looked great on your wedding day. However, I think the dinner jacket needed to be more fitted. Great video 👍

Many thanks, Sony. Re the dinner jacket: our preferences are different. So we'll have to agree to disagree. Yours can be more fitted. I like mine as is!

All the links under your tuxedo and dinner jacket (in the video description) point to Uniqlo turtleneck 🤔

Why did you switch your suspenders? They're quite invisible anyway...
@hespokestyle5 жыл бұрын
Because, as you might have noticed, I cared deeply about every detail--even the ones you don't necessarily see. However, if the jacket came off, which it did at a couple of points, you do see the suspenders.
