My wedding is coming up in just a few weeks. Option 1 is my grandfather's old watch, which if memory serves is a gold Rolex with a moon phase. (Assuming my mother can find where she tucked it away for me decades ago when he died.) Failing that, I may go for the Orient FFDAH004Y. It's a touch large, but I really like the textures on the not-quite-silver dial.

Thanks! I'm hoping she finds it too. I remember seeing it once when my age was in the single-digits, so my memory is pretty fuzzy. My mom seems to recall it had a moon phase (and my grandfather was an RAF navigator in the war, so that seems like a reasonable complication he'd enjoy), and it was definitely gold on a bracelet. But beyond that, and the fact that it's tucked away in the closet somewhere, I know nothing about it.

My go-to for a dress watch is my Grandfathers watch. It is a now defunct swiss company called Jules Jurgensen, but they made great watches back in the day. Mine is a early 60's 14K gold timepiece with a manual wind and croc skin pattern leather band. I keep it maintained and it is absolutley beautiful. My wedding/engagement watch is a bit unconventional, its a Seamaster Pro Ceramic. Not dressy at all so not really suited for a tux, but ceramic & saphire & 300m rating will ensure it's running and looking fresh for years and years to come. I'm looking more towards the future use of the watch, because it will represent more than a one day thing to me, and I want to be able to wear it often than I would a fragile dress watch. Your picks were all great!

Going for the Tudor Black Bay 58. I know it is not the typical wedding watch. But someone once told me to spend your money on the watch you end up wearing the most. That is why I went with something that looks great in normal jeans and shirts, and can pull off a suit as well.

I suppose it depends what you're wearing. In the UK, the traditional thing is to be in Morning Dress, which is often worn with a grey coat or (especially) grey trousers, and even silver in the tie.

Went with a vintage Longines and it was perfect. Barrell dome crystal, mechanical movement, super clean, small, gold, and rectangular with second hand on the six. Beautiful timepiece. It'll always be my favorite for the obvious reasons (the wedding of course).

Dress watches are very much my favourite. That Lange is just stunning, and either Nomos would certainly turn heads but my favourite watch from your suggestions .... The Marlin Blackout. It' been on my to buy list for ages, but they never seem to come up in good condition outside of the US (oddly). Great video and even better suggestions. The only two others I can think of would be the Datejust (because it's just a classic and I really like the idea mentioned below of having a his and hers and perhaps a Junghans Max Bill.

Above 10k the IWC Portugiesers are just jaw dropping. I was looking at the Zenith rattrapante which is a split second chronograph under 10k and it's pretty gorgeous and dressy in addition to complex. Lastly... Not enough grand seiko here...

I wore a Casio when I got married in 1991. As I recall it was a gold face analog with a digital display at 6 o'clock. Alarm, chrono, all that. It had a black rubber strap that stayed black and supple for the duration.. I'd sweat under it, but ijust plain worked. I particularly liked being able to set an alarm while it still looked like just a regular watch..

Timex Marlin is a strong contender here. Also love the Orient Bambino. Seiko Presage was the first watch I thought about when I saw the title. Basically the choice should be understated, not ostenatious. The Longenes Conquest and the Baume & Mercier you picture here are beautiful choices. Basically, no dive watches or pilot watches is the only rule. For an unlimited budget, I think you're right to go with the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony. For once, I have no two cents to add- you covered it all!~

This video could serve as a good one about which watches you'd like to wear in a weddig, or on a formal occasion. However, as great these picks in the video are, honestly if it's your own wedding it would be a shame to pick a watch because of its style and how much it suits the situation you're in; for my own wedding I would absolutely go for my favorite watch, that one watch that you love more than any other watch. It's your special day, so you want to wear your special watch. For me it would be my speedy. Not at all a dress watch, but it's my favorite watch that I own. There is no way I'm going up on the alter getting married without my favorite watch. It's coming with me, no matter how big it is under the cuffs.

Of course, those who believe that would also say that black tie is not completely formal, and that it shouldn't be at a wedding even after 6pm. Watch Dials should be white or gold/silver as that is the most traditional look. Weddings tend to be very traditional so the older the watch the better, if you have an old watch egg laying around that should wear that on your most dashing beaded necklace and your laciest of tops.
