What bothers me most about the 6400 retail cards is their ridiculous cooler setups. Just stick the most basic stuff on it and sell it at or below MSRP. I think they are just reusing the same pcb from other cards and soldering the 6400 chip on it, most likely from the 6500xt models. 8:15, It still makes sense to compare the older system with a bit more modern systems. Like said earlier in the vid, it's not just about the GPU. It is also about what kind of system the GPU will most likely end up being put on, seeing the difference in performance when this GPU is put in different tiers and age of hardware (especially the sandy bridge cpu since that is near the pinnacle of cpu performance of that generation so it's more of a generational limitation ahha) will put an idea of what kind of performance is lost in the pairing. Also, I wonder what would happen to the lower-end segment of the market once RDNA APUs arrive.
@FFXfever2 жыл бұрын
Lets hope intel can fill those shoes. I'm happy for apu improving, but low end gpus will still have a market for many reasons. If Intel's 75w A380 can truly deliver 1660 super performance, many office towers and developing nations will be very happy to try out 1440p.

In a PCIE 4 system this card has its uses especially the low profile versions for ultra SFF low power gaming. It really needs to be around 100 USD or so though to get me interested. I feel that the next gen APUs from AMD will take over the low end gaming spot and both Nvidia and AMD will make fewer and fewer gaming GPUs under 200 USD going forward. Used cards and APUs will fill that place in the market IMO. OEM boxes will still have workstation stuff but for gaming the entry level DGPUs days may be nearly over.

I like that this card exists, for the possibility of using it in tiny PC cases that can fit only low profile single slot cards. Super niche, but still.
@WouterVerbruggen2 жыл бұрын
The big problem here is the only x4 PCIe interface. With PCIe 2.0, the card is bottlenecked by the limited bandwidth of 4 lanes. Very stupid design decisions to make a card that's getting bottlenecked like this in the exact situations it's most suited for, the older systems that need upgrading.

Now that you can pick these up for 130$ or cheaper on sale, it seems like a pretty good buy. It’s no screaming deal like the legendary 750ti used to be, but I think this might be the solution for my ultra small form factor PC
@limemason2 жыл бұрын
Apparently with the way the pcie lanes are set up there is a 14% decrease in performance with pcie 3, so I imagine the performance loss with pcie 2.0 is not worth it.
@samuelswenson15052 жыл бұрын
Yeah, absolutely not. It probably won't even run on PCI 2.0.

If you're stuck with 2.0 and can snag a 1650 for around the same price, then it makes far more sense than this. The new Intel Arc may even provide better value.

Not sure if this card would make sense for someone that have older GPUs like the 1050ti or the RX570, but as a nice (and hopefully cheap!) upgrade for those with iGPUs, it's always nice. I'd like to see a comparison of one of those GPUs in a system with a Ryzen 5600G or 5700G, with their somewhat capable iGPUs...

Yeah I’ve had a 1050ti for what feels like 5 years. Definitely need either this card or maybe a 6500 xt.

@@sillygoofyberry As someone who upgraded from a 1050ti to a RX6600 (non XT), I seriously recommend trying to get the extra cash for it. I though it would be a "good enough" upgrade, instead I'm just maxxin every game in 1080p (paired with a Radeon 5600X and 2x8Gb ddr4-3200)

For PCIe 2.0 it is better to buy 1050 Ti as this card has wider bus and overall it is a practical maximum that could run on these older systems without being bottlenecked too much.

It would be cool to see the i7 2600 + RX 6400 retested against an i7 2600 + GTX 1650. The 1650 is fairly similar in terms of performance but has 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes, so PCIe bandwidth should be a non issue for that level of performance.

Great idea testing the card with 3 different generations of CPU and PCI-E. Nice to see the i7-2600 (similar to i5-2500) still doing well enough. I've noticed the GTX 1080Ti is on eBay auction for 300-340. It has 11GB of ram. Would be curious how this works with your variety of systems? The 1080Ti ranks quite high on Userbenchmark, especially once real price is considered. Thanks for another thoughtful and enjoyable video.
