@@steelbear2063 Being abused is not being a pussy. We are responsible for our own actions, not that of others. It's not on you to be in charge to secure someone else treats you right. Lots of people actually, genuinely want to treat you well. Don't stay with the ones who don't. When men and women who call men in emotionally abusive relationships for pussys and laughs at them, they are putting the fault on the victim, and making it even harder for men to stand up to a bad situation and demand to be treated right. It's fucked. As you can hear, it's not just the partner keeping him in this situation. It's family and friends too. It really is fucked up how normalized this kind of treatment and abusive relationships are.

I know this bit is supposed to be humorous, and it is, but it also makes my heart very heavy. This is precisely the reason I never married. My mom treated people like this, and I had girlfriends who did the same and know so many married men who got treated like this. Most of them got divorced but I don't believe in divorce. I wanted kids but I wanted not to be taken advantage of. These seemed irreconcilable, and gradually I just stopped looking. Not blaming anyone else, it was my choice, and it bothers me a lot less now that I am older, but once in awhile I see something like this and it bums me out a little.

Lonjemarieswisdom Aina He stated that “he see’s the humor in this.” But jokes also come from a place of truth. I don’t blame him for not wanting to be married. You can love the hell out of a woman but she will still try to control you. If a man does the same to his wife then it’s considered an abusive relationship.

I don't want to sound cliché or cheesy or whatever, but there are literally women out there who don't behave like this. It seems any person who behaves like this tends to have insecurities, often such as feelings of inadequacy, trust issues perhaps from a previous relationship or if their parents were divorced (even a parent death can cause issues), a lack of self-defense and therefore any meaningful empathy, it could be as silly as a bad example from society/culture. Usually it's totally out of your control and would take basically therapy to affect, but it'll be a lot for you to have to endure also. Unless you have given your previous partners cause to lose trust in you personally, it's just a run of bad luck. Or common in your area. There really are a lot of people who don't want to be part of something like what he described. It's unhealthy for the person behaving this way also, as their insecurities would cause them a great deal of stress and they likely operate from a place of cynicism, likely to the extent that they can't aim for a joyful and healthy relationship because those goal posts might not truly exist for them. I often see the phrases 'be the change you want to see' and similarly 'be the partner you want to have'. I agree with this as a partner who knows how they want to be treated will know that the only way to achieve it in the real world is to find another person who also values those aspects enough that they are willing to provide them to their future partner. I don't believe it's possible or fair on yourself to try to change other peoples minds on matters as personal as this, especially when you don't know whether they truly want to change those behaviours. It's not your job to waste 10 years trying and hoping. So it's great that you have made the choice to not engage in unhealthy relationships. It has also been said that bad relationships ruin good people. I hope you will find what you're hoping to. It is rather common at least in my area that people treat eachother with common decency and a higher level of respect than what he describes.

While I don't disagree with the statement made above, I have since come to learn Steve hosts a podcast alongside his wife. After watching that for a bit she seems pretty cool, but if you only listen to his stand up it doesn't paint her in the best light. That being said I feel this is a form of therapy for him. This made my day... I laughed so hard I cried! I miss the good ol days where people could just have a good laugh without anyone "being offended" or starting a lecture, rant, or therapy session. Everyone has to throw in an opinion & turn to negativity. Life is too short to not find humor in things, & be lighthearted, & happy for other people. If he was miserable, he'd leave the marriage. I'm sure his wife could rip on him for stuff too. Marriage is full of ups & downs, give & take, love & compromise, laugh & grow together. Finding humor in marriage is healthy & therapeutic. Laugh at each other together. Nobody's perfect, & no marriage is perfect. Don't be so quick to slap a label on everything as "toxic". Live. Laugh. Love.❤️

@@jessc8888 To be fair, Steve's most likely exaggerating for comedic effect. I mean, I'm _pretty sure_ the guy can get dressed and make himself a sandwich without his wife's supervision. Comics generally don't let the facts get in the way of a good joke. OP's point is that what Steve is _describing_ is an abusive relationship. As in, if a friend of mine came to me and told me that their marriage was literally like this, I would advise that they start divorce proceedings and that he have no further contact with the psychopath they were married to without the presence of friendly witnesses and active video recording. Regardless of the gender of the friend or their spouse (flip the genders here and see how funny you think the scenario is). But again, I'm sure these are just jokes. Any woman as controlling and capricious as he claims his wife is would have killed his dreams of being a stand up comic years ago. To say nothing of what she'd do if he told jokes like this about her in public.

If your wife treats you like this, it's your own fault you lost her respect. This doesn't happen overnight, an adult should know how to set boundaries. @@Toxihex Your statement is about as useful as blaming the girls being raped for it. If and when a relationship becomes abusive in one direction (either one), it takes a whole lot of courage to stand up for yourself and end that relationship. You are right. People need to set boundaries. However from the dawn of time (and especially in the last 50 years) men have been told to accept any boundary they might or might not violate and still be in the everlasting fetch quest to win the "princess". That is not a healthy way to teach men and women alike that you have to learn to set boundaries, find compromises if those boundaries are not matching in reciprocity or leave if a compromise can't be found. Life is hard, and to offset that, unfair as well. For men and women alike, that's equality.

Yeah, that's... I mean, I've missed calls from significant others, but only because my ringer was low or off, and I missed calls from friends too. It was never personal. I also warned my S.Os in advance if I planned on hanging with friends so they'd know I was safe and not ignoring them as a personal affront. One particular ex was toxic, however, and made it a point to deliberately start fights with me on days he knew I planned on spending time with friends, who I only ever saw every few months. We're not together anymore, but I can't imagine being that way to someone when it's so shitty having it done to me.

My rules are simple: 1) In my home I always have the last word. 2) I will always support my wife and kids as long as they are doing their part. 3) I take it upon myself 100% to make sure that there is always a roof over our head, enough food to eat and share, provide educational opportunities and the bills are paid. 4) Zero tolerance for domestic violence. 5) Dinner is served as a family every night of the year. 6) Humor is daily. 7) Be charitable even when the only thing you have to give is your time. 8) Be kind and compassionate, but not religious. 9) Zero tolerance in my home on Sexism, Xenophobia, Racism or any other type of discrimination.

Because it builds up. Notice how the friends of the dudes who have their wives act like that absolutely relate and the happily married people in the comments are totally confused because they don't have it nothing like this, and their married friends don't have that either? It's because of the mushy, sticky mentality that women are some kind of different species and "haha look, us men simple and dum creature". You can't put a woman on a pedestal, give her everything she didn't ask for and expect not to be treated as property. When I was a kid and didn't have a type, my first relationships were with basic dudes that did this - they'd treat you like a queen even though you 'd say you don't want it, then you'd say fuck it and agree to whatever they so desperately want to give you, and then you get used to it. Then, you find yourself frustrated without any respect for the person you're with and them accepting and justifying your disrespect as "just women being women haha, I'll never understand them" and their friends relating to it too. It's the mentality that you get more points the more you give and with that, the smaller the chances of her leaving become. It's the notion that you have to win her over and she just has to sit there because there's too much competition for you to feel secure with yourself.

@jewleetube Oh wow there big, strong man. What a fantasy you have there. I bet if that happened to you irl you'd beg her not to leave like a little bitch. Deep down men realise any woman you get with automatically has an astronomically larger chance than you to get a partner that's just as good or even better simply because she's a woman. Male desperation either won't allow you to let her get away or will make you cry for her to take you back when you realise what you've done. And it will only get worse as you get older. But what do I know, maybe someone with temper issues that would throw out someone they supposedly love is very capable of making the right decision.

Some of us are swooned into them, both sides. You put on a good show, and then somewhere along the way things change, and it's after a heavy emotional investment. Some have a better understanding, others are blindsided. Some have the strength to leave, others are not sure how to leave. That's why I believe in a longer courtship. If it's forever, what's a few months or a year to really get to know someone in a wide range of situations to see what your getting into. It's why they offer test drives in cars.

@philippbrogli779 4 жыл бұрын
@@xxoMIKoxx That's a good start. Even though bullies don't always notice when they bully. And there are few peoples being proud of being a bully and openly admit it. But I've heard that people in start to behave differently once they are married. That's because both the bad and the good behaviors are magnified in a marriage. If you are a little bit controlling to your friends or siblings, you will be more controlling to your husband and kids. That's why observing yourself in many different situations is important and listening to friends about your weaknesses is also helpful. Even if you think those weaknesses are not that bad. I personally try to remove a few of my most problematic bad habits before I even try to get a girlfriend. At the moment I'm just not ready. It's not like you can't improve during a marriage, but sometimes the bad behaviors even make us choose unsuitable partners. So cleaning up the life before the search of a partner is a really smart thing to do. By the way I don't claim that you have major problems. But chances are that there are still things in your live that should be solved. If not then you are one of very few people. And one of the best hints to judge if you have some bigger problem is to see if your own parents had some bigger problem. Children often subconsciously mimic exactly the same behaviors and if they are abused, they even subconsciously seek a partner that abuses them in the same way that they experienced with their parents. This is not something that can't be solved but it should not be ignored.

Blythe - it’s not really the length of the life but the quality of the life the woman ganes when she’s married. It increases and even more so once she gets divorced she can walk away with at least half of his assets. Great motivation for her to marry and then break up the marriage in anyway possible.

Wow, I expected something completely different in the comments. I got the impression this guy is a happily married man. He's a comic so he roasts his wife. I do that with people I love. To me it doesn't sound like she's actually abusive, he's just picking out certain parts of small things she's done, embellishing a little bit and telling it in a way that makes the story humorous. He's not going to insert all the times she was incredibly loving and saved his ass, that breaks up the comedic timing. I tell tall tales all the time about my SO for a laugh when I'm with my sisters because all we do is crack jokes nonstop.

Watched this, read the comments...and realized why my pre teen daughter said our family is kinda ideal bcs my husband and I have never yelled at each other even when we argue; we just let each other know where we r going and if we are late getting home we just say "ok, be careful."; we have extremely opposite personalities but that just means we can have our own interests and pursue it. I mean why get married and torture each other? Life is hard enough as it is. Btw...we got married thru an arranged marriage. We fell in love in marriage, simply be kind and treat each other gently.
