I had something similar happen to me as well. My ex was always a bit of a feminist, but she went deeper into it after going to UC Berkeley (yeah go figure). She had an abortion 2 months into her pregnancy and tried to hide it from me. It slipped out from her sister somehow, and I was hurt and disgusted. Her justifications just pissed me off more and killed whatever love I had for her left.

The thing I found at fault here was that she didn’t want kids now, but she wanted him to get snipped. Also she could have spoken up sooner when her life view changed. That her views on children changed is one thing, that she just expected him to blindly follow “out of love”, was truly asinine.

Okay, so motherhood is not for her. Why, in the name of all things unholy, does that mean that he has to get a vasectomy? Did she skip sex-ed classes? Does she not realize that there are multiple ways to avoid an unwanted pregnancy? Her demand that he got a vasectomy sounded more like she essentially wanted to have him branded. In other words, he has to end his chances of having his own children to be with her, and her alone, forever. If she doesn't want to have children then so be it. He does, and he'll be able to do that with a woman who shares his goals for life. Her outrageous demand was both irrational and incredibly selfish.

@@chrisclark5204 In fairness, a vasectomy involves minor surgery, takes 30 minutes with a local anaesthetic, and is completely reversible in almost every case. A hysterectomy is a highly invasive major surgery, requires removal of the uterus, takes months or even years recover from, and of course is completely irreversible. So, not really a fair comparison.

By 3 years post - success rates are only around 50%. By 10 years post, 25%. Longer than that, less than 10%. And a hysterectomy is not done for pregnancy prevention - tubal ligation is. A far less invasive technique than hysterectomy. And ligation is as reversible as a vasectomy with the same approximate percentages of successful pregnancy post reversal based on the same reasons for complication - according to the Cleveland Clinic approx 50 to 80% successful pregnancy after ligation reversal. So with time female tubal ligation is actually more reversible male vasectomy. Be that as it may, the point is that with modern technology, both are equally viable and both are equally reversible with the same highly variable rates of successful reversal. While one is more invasive in that it requires a short same day surgery vs a local, both are totally comparable as to what they do and how they can be reserved in 2024.

Oh! Fun fact: when a woman's "woman parts" - a.k.a. her ovaries & womb - are removed, the reason it's called a "hysterectomy" is because the word "hysterics" is what they USED to call PMS. So, it was thought - & correctly, though not for the reasons they thought at the time - that to remove the reproductive organs (The v@ginal opening is a gateway to the reporductive organs - a.k.a. the womb & ovaries - not really a reproductive "organ" in itself.) would remove the source of the hysterical behavior. Thus, "hysterectomy." Translated as "Removal of Hysteria."

She changed (although some would argue feminist influences helped shape that change of attitude) and tried to be honest with him.
