"We named the dog Indiana!" In the beginning sequence, there's a malamute who looks up as young Indy runs into the house. That's a tribute to George Lucas's dog Indiana, who not only was the namesake for Indiana Jones, but also was the inspiration for Chewbacca. Indy would ride in the front passenger seat of George's car, as if he was the co-pilot.

One of the best parts is when indy kills a nazi and he turns to his dad with such a chuffed look on his face only for his dad to give him a look of disapproval 🤣🤣

a long time ago at a convention I saw this old gentleman sitting by himself at a table. All he had was a few pictures in front of him. He looked very lonely so I went up and introduced myself. Turns out he was the actor that played Hitler is this movie. The pictures he had were of him in this movie and also his character in Empire Strikes Back. Me and a friend of mine stuck around and talked to him for a long time. I bout and auto picture of him in Empire and my friend bought a Hitler one. I think the end fit Elsa’s character. She was willing to get the grail at any cost, whether it’s putting her life in jeopardy or siding with the enemy. Blinded by her pursuit of the grail compared to Indy and his father that were able to let it go.
@arandomnamegoeshere
@arandomnamegoeshere 2 жыл бұрын
Spot on. And before we bash on Elsa too heavily - Indy was tempted as well. There's something happening that goes beyond the person. Though ultimately, Indy is able to resist where Elsa did not. And that's where Elsa's willingness to do anything in her pursuit set her up for destruction.
@CaptainFrost32
@CaptainFrost32 2 жыл бұрын
Jen kept remarking about Elsa's greed, but it was more apt to say ambitious. Discovering and recovering the Grail would have elevated her career and position beyond her perception as an assistant to noted archeologists to being the preeminent authority. Indy passed the three tests on the way in, she failed all three way as she left.

That temple scene gives me goosebumps every time. After Indy heals his dad, Elsa tries to take the grail outside and all hell breaks loose. She betrayed Indy, sided with the Nazis, ordered to have him and his father killed, and he STILL tries to save her, and was very upset when he couldn't. What a guy. This is why we love Indy. The next part with him and his dad is the best part of the whole movie. Henry badgers Indy the entire movie, calling him "Junior" and "boy" ad nauseum to the point where it drives Indy nuts, but when Indy was falling, he was so drawn to the grail and it's power, Henry couldn't get him to give him his other hand so he calls him "Indiana" to get his attention. There was a lot of ambiguity to that. It was him trying to get his sons attention; but it was also him telling Indy that he accepts him for who he is and will no longer try to change him. He tells his son in two words that he knows that Indy will live his life the way he wants to, not the way he wants Indy to. I get chills every time. What a great film. Almost as good as Raiders.

-Given that Indiana Jones was created from a love of James Bond, Spielberg and Lucas didn't have anyone else other than Connery un mind to play Henry Jones, Sr. -The Nazi butler originally said "If you are a Scottish lord, then I am Jesse Owens!" Test audiences didn't get the reference so it was changed to "Mickey Mouse" in post. -The Gestapo agent with Col. Vogel boarding the blimp was series regular Pat Roach. The extended scene of the blimp turning around is his doing as well as him chasing Indy and Henry to the biplane. -Hatay was an autonomous republic that separated from French Syria in 1938 and rejoined Turkey in 1939. They never had a sultan. -There's cinematic irony to the scene where Donovan shoots Henry. The gun used is a Walther PPK, the gun Connery made famous as 007. James Glover played the villain in For Your Eyes Only. -The Grail Knight should be speaking Old French/Franco-Romantic, not a dialect of English that only came about in the 15th Century. If anything he, Indy and Elsa would have conversed in Latin. -According to the novelization, Elsa picked the most elaborate chalice on purpose to kill Donovan. That's why she's screaming when he's rapidly aging; Donovan is trying to strangle her for killing him. The Knight's words "He chose poorly" wasn't about the false grail, it was Donovan believing Elsa was on his side. -The ending was significant for Indy because not only did his father call him Indiana, it was a man who spent his life searching for the grail, often at the expense of his familial relationships, realizing his son is more important than an old cup.

Not sure where Holden got the impression that Marion is Jewish. There’s nothing in the film that alludes it, nor does the actress Karen Allen (who is of English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh descent) bare any physical resemblance. They light up a lighter in an underground cavern full of petroleum and petroleum VAPOR? In reality: instant massive explosion that probably would have destroyed at least a few blocks in Venice. Plus, even though there is no explosion, there are a few times in the catacombs when burning embers from the flaming rag clearly drop into the 'petroleum' with no unfortunate effects whatsoever.

My first introduction to Indiana Jones actually occurred late at night in maybe '93 or '94 when I was 4 or 5 years old (although I didn't realize this until several years later). Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade had just started playing on TV and I started watching it with the rest of the family. My brother and I kept asking our parents what was going on as we were too young to understand all the adventure craziness going on. When my mom first said the were looking for the Holy Grail, I misheard her and thought they were looking for a holy "grill", like the one in our front yard dad cooked stuff on, on some altar in a church somewhere. It wasn't until near the end that mom clarified that it was a cup they were looking for, which I thought was incredibly weird. Why would you call a cup something other than a cup? Very strange. I still have no idea why my parents listened to our pleas to let us stay up that late to see the rest. It was some years later when we were at Disneyland and saw the spectacular stunt reenactment show that I got hooked into the movies. Dad finally showed Raiders for us and I kept wanting to know when they were going to get to the parts in the stunt reenactments. I didn't think they were as cool on the TV but I still enjoyed it a lot. My dad was himself an archaeologist who had gone on digs in Israel in the 90s and would send us post cards of stuff he had found while over there. He even planted ancient coins in our backyard and gave us a metal detector for Christmas so we could go find them (some are still buried there). So I guess because of all that I developed a personal connection with Indiana Jones and "Raiders" in that it was fun to go treasure hunting and fight bad guys along the way. That thrill of finding something hidden and the danger that can go along with it. My dad, and by direct extension Indiana Jones, epitomized all of that for me.

I think the problem with Elsa and Indie at the end wasn't meant to represent greed or stupidity but more of a temptation that was overpowering. In my opinion it was meant to be a spiritual temptation more than monetary, but I could be wrong.

The reason wedging the rock into the barrel works is because hitting the rock is enough to detonate the high explosive shell (they explode on the first thing they hit).

This is my favorite of the trilogy. My favorite part is the way Henry Jones Sr. calls his son Indiana. The whole movie he calls him Junior and doesnt really respect him and his efforts so when he calls him Indiana it's a big moment and I've always loved the way Sean Connery delivered that line.

I’m the same way with rating these films. For me it’s always between 1 and 3. The addition of Sean Connery gives 3 a bit of an edge for me cause I love how they use him in this film. But all in all Raiders and Last Crusade are the best of the series and are so much fun to watch.

This is my favorite, for the father-son element. My Dad and I loved watching these movies together, and it is a good memory I have of him. Also- the basis of the 4th movie is actually the most plausible/least mythological, if you think about it from a certain point of view... (but that doesn't make it great).

I would respectfully disagree. Christianity has tons of real world documentation and historical records (not just from the bible) which is in itself also a historical text that people love to disregard.

About the girl at the end, it's not that she is after money or she is kinda dumb, it's about the power of corruption of the grail, she became obsessed by it, as Idiana was, he saw her fall and yet tried to catch the grail too. This movie has a particular place in my heart because Indiana's dad is basically my dad, same hat, same beard, same glasses, he is a professor, difficult to impress and try to hide his emotions all the time (I think the only time I saw him cry is when we buried our dog) but still, I know he loves us. The 2 times Indiana fall and his dad open his heart to him get me every time ❤

This is my favourite movie of all time! All the rats in Venice were specifically bred to prevent spread of disease. The tank for most of the scenes when it was moving was a shell on top of a jeep and the temple at the end is a real place! It's called Al Khazneh in Jordan.

21:11 That structure right there is not a set actually it’s actual thing you can find in Jordan it’s called the ancient city of rock in Petra and that structure was also used in Transformers Revenge of The Fallen when Sam and company have to find the matrix of leadership it’s one of the few things in those films that’s not CGI lol. I hope you guys enjoy Kingdom of the Crystal Skull I personally liked it.

I actually have the holy grail. I found it in a thrift store in Miami back in 1992. They were having a sale and it was too good to pass up. It sits on our mantle and looks really great but we occasionally have the knights Templar come by to check on it at THE WORST times. The other thing is we have fish near the mantle and they can’t die! They age and a couple have lost all their skin and internal organs so they’re just these skeletons swimming around in the tank. Yeah I know. Gross huh? So besides knights sneaking in and zombie goldfish it’s cool to own. Nice video for a great flick! Thanks guys!

I would also point out that the artifact/s in the next one is/are the only one/s that have ever ACTUALLY been found.
