This is my dad's favorite Christmas movie. For the boomer generation who believed in big holiday get togethers and putting everyone in a lot of emotional drama and stress to get there, this movie spoke/speaks to them. When I was a kid in the late 70s/early 80s Christmas meant cross country trips in the car with siblings and the dog to our grandparents houses, and my dad going berserk any time a snag hindered us. From bad weather to traffic, to throwing our tree out into the back yard before we left so the house wouldn't burn down, and freezing to death on the interstate in Indiana in a mid 70s station wagon in a -30 degree blizzard... you know, the usual. To us kids, Christmas meant nonstop swearing and gnashing of teeth. By the time this came out in the late 80s I was nearly an adult and the cross country holiday trips were done. Watching someone else lose their mind on screen was endlessly amusing to us because we had already been through it multiple times.

As a child of boomers, yeah pretty much. This was always much more relatable than any of the feel good kinda christmas movies because it's when I knew mom and dad were going to be beyond stressed out and I'd have to deal with my werid ass family, there was going to be at least one cuss-fest somewhere in the mix, but in the end it'd be alright. I love sitcoms like The Office, Arrested Development, a bunch of 70's, 80's, and 90's classic sitcoms. However, I watched the 1st season of "Community", and while it had some good comedy at times, I was expecting so much more. I haven't watched the 2nd season yet. Does it get a lot better going forward? P.S. Maybe I expected it to be an all-time legendary sitcom based on recommendations. I seen many comments saying if you loved The Office, you will really LOVE "Community. I'm serious, I love sitcoms and if the show is much better in 2nd season, I will definitely continue watching asap.

@@anthonyzarate9807 The second season is the best one, it gets far more creative and fun, almost every episode becomes a parody of a genre of movies or TV. The second season is definitely the best, the early first season is a lot more like your regular sitcom, so if you enjoyed the first season but was expecting more I would definitely watch season 2, but if you disliked the first season then the show probably isn’t for you. Personally, I think that the second season is probably the best written sitcom ever. It does a great job at combining wild and fun scenarios while expanding of the characters.

Merry Christmas You guys, thanks for the reaction, it was great. A couple of quick FYIs, National Lampoon was a popular college humor magazine that was pubished from 1970 to 1998, raunchy & vulgar are pretty much their brand of humor. The movies are all based on their articles. The Vacation movies are based on a series of articles where all the writers would get together and combine their worst memories of familiy vacations and then exagerrate them for the sake of comedy. Since Clark was the main character of the stories, the humor was all very dad based. This was the only movie where they say home, the rest of the movies are the Grizwald's travelling.

Worth noting...this is the 3rd in the series of Vacation films. The National Lampoon, was a raunchy humor magazine that turned their brand to movies, and the original Vacation (which is my personal favorite), is worth your watch. That's the one that you are likely thinking of regarding traveling somewhere. By the time you get to this 3rd movie, there is already a history with characters like Uncle Eddie, which makes things even funnier.
@pumkinheadfanvhsforever6087 Жыл бұрын
I'll mention as well that the original premise actually was based on a running column that was written by John Hughes(it was basically the use of a bunch of snap shots of different trips with funny word bubble dialog)! I'll also note that by the mid 80's the original owners had sold the magazine and the magazine went bankrupt. Fast forward to the early 00's when the name was available for a set amount to be used to market strait to video films. Some were really good(like Van Wilder, Barely Legal), Some were OK(Dorm Daze 1&2, Bagboy) and some were really just crap(TV guide: The Movie). IMDB doesn't even mention most of them existing as being "Nation Lampoon". Then again not everything from the early days was gold either. John Hughes actually wrote another film based off a bit he did for National Lampoon( the film would be titled Class Reunion). Now I know setting a horror comedy at a high school reunion sounds like it would be a no brainier, but the result was not that well received and has kinda fell into obscure cult film status(IMO I liked Student Bodies and Wacko better) . I'd say give the other Vacation films a watch and maybe Animal House(yes there's stuff that hasn't aged well in the film, but then again it was a film from the late 70's set in the early 60's and was kinda poking fun at different tropes from that time. That's satire!😜) a watch. Oh and if you haven't seen Caddyshack that's another one that would've been a National Lampoon film, but the screenwriters had been part of the original group of staff writers of the magazine and had recently left and were wanting to go at it on their own.
@RyoHazuki224 Жыл бұрын
As for the "Vacation" movies, this is technically a sequel to the first "National Lampoons Vacation" movie from 1983, and the "European Vacation" from 1985. Those two movies they do travel places. This one just kind of shows another aspect of the Griswold family, where while its a Vacation movie, they don't actually go on any trip this time lol.

My favorite part is when Ellen pulls the chain on the trap door. 🤣🤣 4. Mae Questel played Aunt Bethany. She was the original Betty Boop and Olive Oyl, This was her last gig.😇 5. In the big rant scene the other actors had Chevy's lines written on placards so he wouldn't get his lines out of order. 6. Living next door to them must be kind of like living next door to the Bundys. 7. Fun fact; Chase actually hurt his hand karate chopping the reindeer. 8. Clark's boss is Brian-Doyle-Murphy (Bill Murry's brother) calls him greaseball when he drops off his gift. Then doesn't get his name right until the very end. 9. Ellen is played by Beverly DeAngelo. She also played in "Every Which way but Loose" with Clint Eastwood and in "Hair". EWWBL would be a great first time share but "Hair" would give you copywrite issues. Finally, she has a couple of kids with Al Pacino. I like her better than the sales girl.😍😋🥰 10. This IS my Christmas movie every year 11.
