A little bit of trivia: The Predator's iconic clicking sound was done by voice actor Peter Cullen, best known as the voice of Optimus Prime, who got the inspiration from the sound of the wriggling legs of an overturned horseshoe crab he saw as a kid. And, the actor who wore the Predator suit has an out-of-costume cameo as the helicopter pilot at the end

The helicopter pilot at the end of the movie was Kevin Peter Hall, the actor who played the Predator. He also played the Predator in 1990's Predator 2. Shane Black, the actor who played Hawkins, co-wrote the screenplays for the Lethal Weapon film and the cult classic The Monster Squad. He also directed 2018's The Predator, which has a lot of throwbacks to the first two films. And Prey was amazing. In my humble opinion, I found it to be the best film in the franchise since the original. I also love how it is set three hundred years before the first one. And Predator 2 and Prey are connected to one another.
@DEATH111183
@DEATH111183 Жыл бұрын
Actually the only connection in prey to the predator movies is the flintlock pistol. Other than that, it was no more than a pale cash grab. Being no high tech weapons from the predator, he kills anything that moves regardless of sport(referencing the ground beef he left before the confrontation) hell the predator didn't even wear his breath mask in prey, he just wore a flat lenseless visor. Predator 2 established that even when the predator takes off the helmet, he runs out of breath after extended periods of time. He was huffing and puffing on a breather mask on the rooftop before Danny Glover (Mike Harrigan is the character name) knocked him off the side of the building and cut his arm off.

There was something about Prey that made me very curious about Predator: How much do any of these characters understand about what they are facing? In Prey, you are lucky to find someone who believes the Earth is round and orbits around the sun. Do they understand extraterrestrials? And what do Dutch, Dillion, and Billy (the 3 smartest members of this group) understand about what is happening here?

YES!!!! MY #1 FAVORITE ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER MOVIE! Facts you didn't know about the movie: Jean Claude van Damme played the Predator in some parts of the movie, but quit production as he was tired of wearing the original suit, which looked like a lizard insect hybrid. He even wanted to kickbox Arnold but the producers refused. Kevin Peter Hall, RIP, was cast as the titular character as he was more of an intimidating opponent for Arnold's character Dutch being 7'2". Hall even makes a cameo appearance as the helicopter pilot at the end of the movie. Oscar Winning VFX company Stan Winston Studios designed the PREDATOR suit for the film and would later return to the franchise for PREDATOR 2 in 1990. Half the cast and crew got food poisoning except for Arnold and Director McTiernan whom ate Spaghetti O's and PBJ Sandwiches like Spielberg and Ford on Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Schwarzenegger would later hire his own personal Chef to give the actors the food they needed. No hot meals were allowed due to the heatwave in Mexico. The producers hired a bodyguard to protect people from Sonny Landham, RIP whom played Billy as, as he was prone to violent outbursts. Landham said in an interview that "We weren't making a movie it was a survival story for all of us." The scene where the stuntman falls off the cliff and lands in the water blew out his kneecap. It was 110° in the shade while it was 42 at night It rained for 2 weeks, making filming even more difficult. The film was a box office and critical success making $100 million dollars ($360 million dollars today) against an $18 million dollar budget. It was nominated for Best Visual Effects but lost to InnerSpace. It's now considered to be one of the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made.
@Rorujin
@Rorujin Жыл бұрын
Predator has some great BTS stories. I would like to add that the scene where they unload on the forest was because some executive thought there weren't enough shootouts in the movie... So McTiernan did that scene and it's, I think, the scene where the most amount of ammo was used up... Ever. Or at least at the time. Also Hawkins is played by Shane Black... Writer of Lethal Weapon, Last Boy Scout, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Last Action Hero and, eventually, The Predator (though that one.... Yeah). In fact he wrote the script for Lethal Weapon (as well as worked as an on-set script doctor for this one) during filming. Also the original design for the Predator, as you mention, was... Less than stellar, and it was actually James Cameron who designed the Predator as we know him today as a favor to Stan Winston. Hence the vagina mouth (Cameron likes to inject a lot of feminist or Freudian ideas in his designs).

In one of the special features the design artist was in a plane next to James Cameron who saw the facial designs of the predator. He suggested that it would look cool if he added dreadlocks on it. The design artist pretended to act like it was whatever but immediately saw it as a cool idea and created a dreadlock type of hair on it.

I agree, the Predator creature design is one of the greatest ever, instantly iconic and timeless. Hats off to Stan Winston, he's a true master of his craft. Before he came aboard the Predator was supposed to be a giant lobster played by Van Damme or something. Also, you might be interested to know that the clicking sound that the Predator makes was invented and performed by Peter Cullen, the voice actor of Optimus Prime. Also, I think the music deserves praise as well, Silvestri killed it so much that the music pretty much became synonymous with the creature. I would recommend to watch Predator 2, it's not as good, but a decent sequel and it's definitely canon to the new Prey movie, there are some callbacks. Predators is also not bad. A little too much fan service for my taste, but an interesting take on the Predators themselves, because the ones in that movie are more like poachers than honorable hunters. A lot like those Trandoshans in that one Clone Wars arc you watched, where they kidnapped and hunted Jedi younglings =D And definitely check out Prey, it's very good. AvP stuff, on the other hand, I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. As well as The Predator by Shane Black. It's awful.

This movie is actually way smarter than you'd think. The team is introduced as absolute badasses. They joke around, are not afraid of anything, shrug off injuries and take out a whole camp of heavily armed enemies. All that is necessary to establish them as the tip of the food-chain. Then however things take a different turn and the hunters become the hunted... and from that on even the jokes die.

One of the many things I like about the franchise, at least the first two, is that the Predator's have subtle differences in their behavior. The first, is a seasoned hunter that does everything with purpose, like decloaking so Mac will follow him. The second is more reckless and is more bloodthirsty, that doesn't mind taking on multiple opponents at once.
@MegaCityGhost

I like that they are nuances that you don't necessarily pick up on the first viewing. For example, it took me a second viewing to realize that the Predator purposefully drove the boar into their camp to steal Blane's body in the confusion. And also how he blew off Dillan's arm in order to close in for the melee kill. He was definitely having fun with these guys =D

100% recommend the Dark Horse Predator comics and even the more recent Marvel comics as well. The Predator: The Original Years Omnibus Vol. 1 by Marvel (The Comic issues themselves are by Dark Horse Comics Marvel just put them all together as a Omnibus) is a heavily recommendation after you watch Predator 2 it's just the perfect series of comic issues that will keep you entertained for a while. Think of the Omnibus as a remaster by Marvel with update colours and overall better quality but still maintains the amazing 1990s art work and art style. Marvel did the same thing with the Old Republic and Tales of the Jedi comics from the 1990s releasing a Omnibus with updated panels. There's also new Marvel comics as well which could even tie into future 20th Century Studios produced Predator films as Disney does own the rights now to Predator after they bought 20th Century Fox. The Alien vs Predator comics are so much better than the AVP films they have a more Aliens feel to them using the colonial marines along with many of the weapons and armour introduced in Aliens but of course with a Predator thrown in to combat humans and Aliens. They also expand the lore greatly more than any of the movies and not to mention the novels as well which are really good. There's also comics that showcase Predators in different periods of human history from The Golden Age of Piracy to Feudal Japan. They also did fun crossovers such as Batman VS Predator so it's such a fun read. Predator 1 and Predator 2 are my personal favourite followed by Prey which I did really like. Predators is very interesting while the first Alien vs Predator film was fun while the 2nd was pretty meh. The Predator from like 2018 or something is just garbage so yeah this hope you enjoy a good amount of these films. Imagine if this series had a Kevin Feige type person behind it a cinematic Alien and Predator universe would kick ass if they based stories off the comics.

Fun facts: Jesse Ventura was governor of Minn before Arnold was in California. Sonny Landham (Billy) also ran for Gov of Kentucky right around the same time as the other two, but dropped out eventually. Landham was also a 70's adult film star, and was so intense in his role as Billy, the movie studio hired bodyguards for the rest of the cast to protect them from him. Jesse Ventura did another Arnold movie (The Running Man), but I can't believe you don't know him from professional wrestling. Of course, he got his start in the US Navy as a frogman. This was before Navy Seals were officially a thing, but he was the equivalent. A true Bad Ass. from Billy's fandom wiki Billy was of half-Sioux Indian, half-Italian descent and it was from his native people that he learned his exemplary tracking skills. When he was an infant, his people would tell stories of how a Predator had once hunted their forefathers, although Billy was too young to remember these tales when he grew up. Billy notably appeared to possess something of a sixth sense, becoming aware of the Jungle Hunter's presence even before anyone had seen it, and apparently immediately deducing that the creature was not human, knowledge that unnerved him greatly. His perception of the Predator seemed to gradually drive him insane, a fact that was picked up on by the rest of the team. Ultimately, this insanity likely played a part in his decision to fight the Jungle Hunter armed only with his machete. In the film, Billy seems to have something of a sixth sense regarding the Predator. In the novelization, however, his powers go even further, and he is said to be actively psychic, able to access the memories of his ancestors and the ancient Mayans who used to live in the jungle and can actively sense the Predator's presence.

You'll get to see some of it as you get through watching the other movies (except for the 2018 one, that spit in the face of alot of Yautja lore). Watched this movie and its direct sequel when I was about 11 or 12, I think. Imo there isn't a single alien species in all of cinema that beats out the Yautja.

I actually enjoy the first AvP a lot. Yes they were stingy in the gore department (and it's PG-13!!!), but it's a lean, fun, surprisingly progressive monster mash and, tbf I have some nostalgia for it due to the time it was released. That being said, James Cameron agrees with me: it's the best Alien sequel other than his own. Yes even than Prometheus, and a decent adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" (I mean, its plot is taken wholesale from that). Edit: I have to admit that Paul W.S. Anderson (AvP's director and also responsible for the Resident Evils movies) is a guilty pleasure auteur of mine.

This is arguably my favorite film of all time!!! I still remember where I was, what theater I was in, what day it was and who I was with the first time I saw this on it's initial release back in 1987... AND I NEVER RECOVERED FROM THAT EXPERIENCE! None of the sequels measure up to the first because they've all ignored WHAT the Predator is. The Predator is NOT a "warrior", it is NOT a "soldier", it is NOT a "mass killer", the Predator is a TROPHY HUNTER. It picks out one target at a time to go after and does not kill again until it claims the trophy from that individual hunt. Example: It did not kill again until AFTER it went back and took Blain's body to claim it's trophy. Predators are not of any "noble" mindset as a warrior or soldier might be. They hunt for sport and bragging rights to each other and keep only their trophies, leaving the rest of the kill wasted. The sequels seem to ignore this and make the Predators out to be some kind of honorable combatants trained for warfare...which they're not. They portray them as killing GROUPS of people at a time which a "hunter" would not do. The Predator here could have killed the entire team at one time if it wanted to (as the sequels would do) but, then it wouldn't be a "hunt"... GREAT vid guys! Keep 'em comin'!

this is a classic action movie from the 80's i grew up with. I will say, definately watch Prey (was a Hulu exclusive film that should have been in theaters) when you get the chance. it is a great movie, gives a bit more backstory history to the franchise and has a direct connection to the 2nd Predator movie(will have to watch and pay attention to items from that movie). and yes Jessie Ventura is the 2 time former gov. of Minnesota, but was also an actor and a pro. wrestler before his time as gov. and mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

What I love about this movie, is the director, McTiernan, threw together the scene where they turn the jungle into salad just after Blain is killed, because of studio interference. The suits, or petty cash officers as I call them, were sending daily notes to McTiernan about "needing more gunfire". The petty cash officers, thought that even after the complex scene where they take out loads of bad guys, the film was short on action. McTiernan decided to have the scene with Mac seeing the Predator go from a simple "Mac sees the Predator, the Predator flashes its eyes and runs into the jungle... and that's it, scene over"... to instead having every character on screen at the same time for 60 seconds of continuous gunfire to shut the suits up for good and let him make his movie in peace. I do hope you guys do RoboCop though. Greatest sci-fi-horror-action movie ever made. Subbed!

Love this classic. A true man's film. The cast is just pure testosterone. Just wish Sly was in it too. Can you imagine Arnold and Stallone in a film together in the 80's and 90's, right in their prime. This film still kicks major ass. Oh and fyi, the Predators are knows as Yautja. That's their species name. There are different clans and species of Yautja, like Beserker Predators. Their similar in appearance slightly but have different genetic codes. They're highly intelligent hunters for sport and dominance. Even went as far as breeding Xenomorphs to hunt. That's how badass they are. I know pretty much all there is to know about the Yautja. Huge Alien and Predator nerd right here. Awesome reaction.

He was fired for "reasons" and the Predator completely redesigned into the iconic creature we know today. They brought in 7 foot 3 inch Kevin Peter Hall to be the new Predator. He can be seen piloting the chopper that picks up Arnold at the end. The cast and crew said he was the sweetest guy you could ever meet. Kevin also played Bigfoot in Harry and the Hendersons.

Fun fact: the director John mctiernan had to fight to get Carl weathers in the film. He says he needed Carl in order “to show Arnold how to act.” The confrontation scene between the too was one of the direct reasons he (director) knew he needed someone to usher Arnold through the scene. Arnold himself has said of how much he learned of acting from Carl weathers through this film as well.

That's not true at all, where do you pull this shit from? The original idea for Predator came from a joke in Hollywood after Rocky IV that Rocky had run out of earthly opponents, he would have to fight an alien if a fifth film were to be made. They wanted big and imposing actors to play the commandos, that's part of the reason Carl Weathers was chosen, plus the fact that he was in Rocky & the idea came from a Rocky joke was another reason wht they thought of him. They didn't have to fight to get Carl Weathers in the movie, he was first choice to play Dillon.

Highly acclaimed special effects artist Stan Winston, was brought in to re-design the predator costume. Under recommendation from his good friend Arnold Schwarzenegger, since they both had worked together previously on "The Terminator". The producers realized the original costume look was disappointing to say the least and also due to problems on set with the original creature suit (which was worn by Jean Claude Van Damme) It is a well known effects industry story that Stan got inspiration for the predators iconic face/look from James Cameron. They both were on a flight to Japan, while sketching ideas for the new predator outfit. Stan mentioned how he was under a lot of pressure to redesign the predator suit and he was worried about failing the producers, since the first costume was a fail. During the conversation, James Cameron mentioned how he would love to see a creature with mandibles. Stan Winston took that idea and went to town on designing the Predator we got to see in the movie. I had the pleasure to have met Stan Winston while in college, when he came for a speaking engagement. Truly a legend RIP

Since Jen was impressed by the Predator's face design, she might be interested to know that the Predator was designed by the Legendary Stan Winston. But during an interview he said that he was stuck when it came to designing the Predator. And while he was on a flight during that time, his companion was James Cameron. While talking, Cameron asked Stan what else he was currently working on and Stan told him about Predator and his struggle with creating a unique look for the creature. And it was Cameron who suggested that Stan redesign the Predator's mouth and suggestes an idea that was close to what later became the iconic Predator mouth.

Fun fact: the first actor that was supposed to play the Predator was none other then Jean-Claude Van Damme. He thought he was going to star in some big production where he would show off his martial arts skills, but the production of "Predator" just wanted him because of the demanding physical work needed to play the Predator. One of the producers said that he was pissed during the test shooting, after having to put on a bright orange foam suit that resembled a mix between a insect and a shrimp (the first design of the Predator). After the test shoot and how goofy it looked, the production decided to change the design of the creature, which was made by the legendary Stan Winston. He also designed iconic characters like the Xenomorph Queen (Aliens) and the Terminator.

One of the best action movies ever made. Here are some interesting tidbits; 1) when Stan Winston was hired to create a new creature design he was flown in. On the flight he sat next to James Cameron who suggested to Winston it would be cool to have a monster with crab-like mandibles. 2) the new creature design caused a production delay of a few months. But unlike in the Amazon, this movie was shot in Mexico where the jungle does experience seasons and in the fall the leaves were turning brown and fell off the trees. Delaying production would have been too expensive so they flew in plants from the U.S. as set dressing in an actual jungle.
