Was watching a behind the scenes and found out that Signoury Weaver loved the werewolf. She would ask every day if the wolf was there. She even held the wolf's hand when she finally encountered him. Love how much of this was practically shot.

I absolutely love this movie. I saw this in theaters going in completely blind. My family asked me to come and I didn't want to because "Cabin in the woods" sounded so generic lol. I hadn't seen any trailers for it so I had no interest in it. I'm glad I saw it because it's sooo good! The film is a meta-commentary on horror movie audiences, & the need for ever more gruesome deaths to appease them. Effectively, WE, the audience, are the "ancient ones" if we don't like how a horror movie is written we hate the movie, get upset, essentially the world ending in this meta horror movie. I also love how they got the personalities of the characters completely wrong, the guy they had as the jock was a rhodes scholar, the "smart" one was super athletic, the virgin was sleeping with her professor and the jester was a virgin. Now I heard about this but I don't know if it's true or not but apparently the stoner guy did not get in the water because they couldn't have him take his shirt off because he was actually buffer than Thor and the other guy.

This film was actually directed by Drew Goddard, he said he wasn’t sure if he’d ever direct another movie again, so he wanted to have everything in the film that influenced him as a director and did stuff he always wanted to do. Although Whedon did help write it. But yea that’s a small portion of the reason why this movie is so insane and referential to past monsters and villains, while not using those exact characters Also I happened to watch this without seeing the beginning part or the force field, so I just assumed it was an average slasher film, only to be constantly whiplashed by the way the movie went from then Quite a way to experience it the first time to say the least lol Also despite Goddard saying he wasn’t sure if he’d ever direct again, he did end up making another movie with Chris Hemsworth called “Bad Times At El Royale”

The meta commentary is that the Ancient Gods represent us, the audience, who expect the horror tropes in our movies to play out a certain way and the 'world will end' (or the movie franchise will get no more sequels) if they disappoint us. It's so funny, and its impressive how close they got to the big horror movie monsters without breaching copyright. Sawblade guy with his little box is a clear reference to Hellraiser, but there are too many to count. The merman always splits my sides when it shows up, and dude is right how many horror movies have you seen with a merman in it?.

This movie released in an era of horror that I don't think we'll ever see again. This is right around the time zombies were absolutely massive, TWD was on it's 2nd season and going super strong, other shows like american horror story were starting out, and sequels to all of our favorite horror franchises were churning out regular content every year. That era kind of set our expectations for what a movie about a cabin in the woods would be. In fact, there was another movie called Cabin Fever that came out about 10 years before this one and many thought it was a remake / update to that movie, hence why the ending of this film is such a controversy.

So the reason why the Ancient Ones were angry and shaking the facility when the team signalled that the Fool had died (when Marty was taken the first time), is because they had assigned each of the group their roles instead of actually doing their research and seeing who was who. Marty was actually the Virgin, and like they said, the Virgin doesn't have to die so long as they die last. The rumble was a warning to them which they ignored. Curt wasn't the Jock, he was the Fool, Jules is the Scholar as she is a nursing student, Holden is a quiet football star so he's the Jock, and Dana is the Whore because she had an affair with her professor. The Foundation fucked the whole thing up by assigning them roles rather than seeing which one was actually which :P It's definitely also got overtones similar to the SCP Foundation, which if you have not checked that out, you should. The Foundation secures and contains anomalous objects, beings, and events to protect the general public, which is similar to all the monsters being held in the cubes and being used to avert an XK-class End of the World scenario :P

In terms of actual horror, it's maybe 6/10. In terms of comedy, it's maybe, 7/10. In terms of creativity and timing and accessibility and sheer fun, it's 8/10. It's just a great movie that most people can enjoy for what it is. Having a vast repertoire of horror movies under your belt certainly helps you appreciate the subtle and not-so-subtle nods to the movies that inspired it, but it also stands on its own well enough. Fran Kranz was brilliant and subtle, as he is in everything he's done, and seeing Sigourney Weaver make an appearance is never a disappointment (although, having grown up watching the "Alien" movies, I recognized her voice before I saw her face).

I love this movie so much. My single and ONLY big gripe with it would be that showing the force field in the beginning is a letdown for when Curt tries to jump across the gap. I know that their intent is to clue in the audience that the main group isn't just being watched, but also the entire TRIP is set up, I just think it could've been done with cameras built into the rocks or something. If we didn't know that the force field was there, Curt's death would've been way more shocking, hopeless, and 10x more hilarious!

And the actor who plays Holden's namesake, later would play one of the lead roles on Detroit: Beyond Human, one of the coolest narrative games in the last five years. Edit: Another fun fact, this movie had a tie-in with Left 4 Dead, which had the facilities in the end as a level. At the same time, in the "money shot" where we see every monster in those shifting containers, supposedly there's a Bloater from the same game (I've never found it though).

Such a great film. Probably the best "parody" film I guess you could call it. Hope Jen loves it! Jen, btw, think that guy with the saw blades in his head who was holding the ball was supposed to be like Pinhead from the Hellraiser series of movies? That's what I've always got from him On a side note, Holden about to get demonetized for showing his feet too often on camera ;)

I remember watching this in the theater and laughed out loud when Thor flew right into that barrier. Half the theater laughed right with me.

I never wanted to watch this, cuz I thought it was just another "in the woods" horror movie, but once I did I was sooo happy. I love to have some comedy in my horror, and this was such an original idea, and the casting is amazing.

I love the meta-ness of this movie in the sense that we the audience are the Old Gods hence why the ground rumbled when Marty "dies" considering he's both written and played to be the "fan-favorite" -- his death would tilt the audience (see: Jess) and in-verse his death is false which would (lore wise) anger the gods that seek sacrifice. It's a witty little movie all things considered.
