Not a fighting game, but does anyone remember Earache: Extreme Metal Racing? It's nearly what's being explained here but in a racing game context and only with bands on earache records. Definitely the most legit metal soundtrack for a game ever too. Very interesting relic anyway :)

I worked on one on these years ago, we were gonna have all the characters be musicians. rob halford would have a brutal scream, bruce dickinson would have yet another set of scream attacks, kerry king would, well you know, but with bass, same with lemmy, the hidden character would be wino who would only have one attack... no matter what button you press he just walks over casually and stabs the fucker to death

What about instead of a fighting game it was something like Card Dungeon? Card Dungeon was this rogue like game where it was overhead rogue where a miniature trapsed dungeons with cards as attacks/utilities. Card Hunter fans say it's a ripoff but Card Hunter devs need their throat slit so we won't compare metal to them. This overhead tile grid turn based game play could be PvP but that isn't the main point. The point is to make servers with 3 to 8 players on huge dungeon maps and conquer enemies forming a "band" like a D&D party and class types are basically metal genres where different band players focus more so on different cards and strategies.
