If anyone can make a Wisteria into a bonsai, Dr. Nigel can. Enjoying a hot cup of tea while watching this great tutorial.

I've witnessed a number of growers have success with Wisteria. I think they're very popular bonsai in the UK :)

That was really a severe root pruning, I really hope Nigel, that the Wisteria will make it and will give you many years of joy developing into a beautiful flowering bonsai. I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed 🤞 I hope you'll feel better soon !

I just performed the same procedure on my wisteria last week. It had been a year since I collected it with hardly any roots. Over the summer it thrived and the roots were growing from the bottom of the pot. Sooooo,,, I went FULL NIGEL on the roots. Hopefully it survives😂. Thanks, keep growing

Hi Nigel. It’s great to have wisteria as bonsai. Some of the most beautiful bonsai I have ever seen are wisteria. Good luck with this recovery. I think if anyone can do it, it’s you. The root hog pots are awesome.

I’ve been trying to grow a wisteria from seed for a bit but haven’t had any luck yet. One of these days I’ll get one going!

Roots like ginseng. Looks like you had no choice but to reset. I like that pot and I hope to see the wisteria and yourself recover quickly.

Has it ever bloomed? I love the blossoms.

Wisteria take a good few years before they bloom for the first time. I think mine are three years old, no flowers yet

WOW! You really did some major root pruning on that wisteria. Will be interesting to see if "your feeling" about the plant's survival. Feel better soon.

Hi Nigel, have you thought about root cuttings?
@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951 Жыл бұрын
On the flat bottom of this pot, I bet with a diamond file you can make 4 grooves in the bottom for drainage flow. Just a thought.

I hope it lives. I passed up a chance a couple of years ago on buying a nice Wisteria on clearance for $10 that would have made a beautiful instant Bonsai. I don’t know what I was thinking lol

Nice gifts from Rob. I personally got a full American Bonsai tool set this winter but I've been having a number of issues with their customer service. I hope it improves.

Same here. I received an email back when I had a few questions a month ago. It read that they are so busy right now getting orders out that it would be awhile before they would be able to get back.
@hyperionhelios190 Жыл бұрын
@Rob Cottam that's an automated email. With enough persistence you can get past that but I'm just not convinced it's worth the effort until something changes. I've been happy with all tools but one that I've shipped back due to manufacturing defect.

Sorry Nigel, l guess l didn't do you any favours giving you that tree. In the future l will handle any trees l dig up by not leaving all of the roots by not overemphasizing the tree's survival on its first transplant from the grow bed. Generally, the tree is at its strongest when potting from the field, nursery container and after collected recovery.
@TheBonsaiZone Жыл бұрын
Hopefully the tree will do well!! I sure cut a lot off the roots, thanks for the tree, if it lives, it will be on it's way as a bonsai!!! Thanks David!!
@Stettafire Жыл бұрын
They tend to be very agressive growers, David, so I think the survival chances of this plant are very good :)
