I do commissions too (although to be fair, I've only done like, 2, because I have a tiny little baby following) and I'm constantly sending work in progress shots, asking questions, making sure the person LITERALLY PAYING ME gets exactly what they wanted/expected. I cannot fathom not doing this??????????? And like, yeah, I struggle a lot with depression, and sometimes I can't/don't draw for months. Which is exactly why, I've only recently started doing commissions! If you can't work, don't take people's money, it's pretty simple actually.

You wouldn't walk into a restaurant, pay for a sandwich, be given a salad and have no complaints. Anyone would be justifiably upset and complain that they didn't order that. If you offer a certain commission type and someone pays for that, you have two choices: do the freakin commission as you promised or apologize and refund. I mean, you could also offer the third option of explaining the situation and asking if the commissioner is okay with the change of type, but if they aren't you're back to the first two options. This honestly reminds me of an indie artist/brand who hosted a few giveaways and then didn't post the winners for a week or two with no updates as to when to expect the winner announcement all the while still very active on her account posting other things. People understandably got upset thinking they were scammed and started messaging her asking if she was going to decide on the winners anytime soon. She got so mad that started making Instagram stories saying she would ban or disqualify anyone who made ANY complaints or messaged her about it, and that everyone should be grateful that she's doing a giveaway because it's free stuff and she can decide the winners whenever she feels like and to unfollow her if they're gonna act like that. But the thing is that in order to join the giveaway you have to tag people, give engagement to her post by commenting, liking, sharing, etc. WHICH IS GIVING HER ENGAGEMENT AND EXPOSURE TO NEW CUSTOMERS which means that's not technically free because you're asking people to do all this stuff for you with a slim chance that they'll get anything in return. Anyways I don't support that brand anymore because of the unprofessional and immature attitude.

As a commission artist myself, my worst experience would be someone not paying a last minute next day three draws things. And the weirdest is drawing someone's head inside other's character body. I won't say more details. But I will say at least that one got paid~

for commissions if you're not using paypal- my tip is to just have fun with it!! you don't need to have the best art ever just have people who like your art enough to pay for it :) for art apps- i've heard very good things about ibis paint, i personally use procreate (but you do have to pay for it) and i think medibang may have an app? which ever one you go for, just have a good time and make some art for ur friends!!
