You're videos make me feel better about my own riding. You're a lot better rider than I am, and you still have times when you struggle like crazy. I can relate to that so much. I raced 4 harescrambles this year. 1 went good. 1 I got stuck in a mud hole for 20 minutes. One of them I was too out of shape, and the last one I wrecked myself and needed knee surgery. So I've been sitting on the couch for the past 2 months. Its frustrating to say the least.

The godfather of enduro here in the U.S. Dick Burleson, swears by trials tires on the rear in Marquette. They used to hold the Loose Moose D14 Enduro ever year. It was a National quite a few times and I only ever rode it once. It was fun and by far the most technical and challenging enduro in the D14 series.

Well, you finally brought up exactly what I was thinking... You weren't getting traction at all. What was your rear tire set up? I'd think that you'd always be running a soft gummy tire with a soft mouse or tubliss at 5psi or so... I'm very curious to know what you were running. If it makes you feel any better, I'd still be stuck out there.
@jamesricc56504 жыл бұрын
Love these videos. Commentary is priceless. Have had days like this when I was doing all the work, not the bike. Tubliss allowed me to bring it up a couple levels. Tire pressure is a big factor when you are in terrain like that. Keep up the awesome work.

I’ve been riding for 11 years and I have some advice to help you out! #1 your rpms are extremely low on the hills which is why your stalling out. I gets it’s also about clutch fence. But you have to give it more throttle. #2 momentum is your friend. So kinda stating the obvious if you kept it going, and gave her the beans on that hill, you would have a better chance making it! I love your videos! You’ve inspired me to do hare scrambles! So I am doing my first hare scramble season and my first IXCR season as well!

Hey ZachAtk, that looked like one hell of a trial, well done for continuing to push through it. I do have a suggestion on the tire setup that you mentioned toward the end of the video. I run Tubliss front and rear with around 5 psi in the rear and 5-10 psi in the front depending on the conditions. The rear tire is a Shinko 525 Cheater and it hooks up very well in a large majority of terrain. The rock sections in the video would be rough with this tire as well but for the soft loam and roots it typically hooks up very well. Anyways I figured i'd throw my two cents in here for what its worth. Thanks for another great video that another rider can enjoy from the NE!

Nice video! I was looking forward to this video. My son and I rode the Mini Moose last year in Marquette. Obviously it not nearly as technical as its designed to introduce kids to enduro in the Michigan Family Enduro Series. Amazing terrain to ride in the U.P. Sand and Rocks thats what Michigan does!!! UP Sandstormers put on great events.
@pennsyltuckyoutdoorsports85104 жыл бұрын
Keep your head up, those trails looked super legit and traction looked minimal at best. The wrong tire and or wrong pressure on stuff like that can make a huge difference. On top of that having to wrestle a bike even just once or twice in stale stagnate high humidity is enough to push just about anyone over the edge. That's the kinda stuff you have to ride to really appreciate.

Hey man, I'm in exactly the same mindset about not blaming my equipment. But, as you acknowledged, as you gain experience you do have to find the best tire, pressure, suspension settings. Hate to say "oh it was the wrong tire" all the time but for sure, gotta find the one that works.

I could be wrong, but I think from watching all your videos that your only issue in a lot of these races is your stamina. There is no doubt you absolutely have the skills, just maybe being in better shape is what’s standing between just finishing and being on the podium ? Like I said, I could be way off but I look at the way I ride and it’s very similar and I KNOW I need to be in way better shape! I hate cardio, but I guess I’m gonna have to start lol!! However, not quoting and pushing through like you do says a lot you!! Awesome job!!are you running a moose tire?

Man, when you said you were barely in the first mile and then later said you were at mile 5.5, I wanted to cry for you! Haha! We have ALL had days like that. Hero dirt is awesome, but the wet roots and rocks are there to ruin the party. That first time you went down hard on the trail, that's when I know I'm super fatigued and am just not riding right. Still as entertaining as ever though. Sorry you had a rough one man!!
