i don't wear makeup. like, i don't own a single makeup product. i've probably had the stuff you talk about on my face... three times in 22 years, but i check your channel every day because i love your passion and intelligence and enthusiasm. your work is a source of comfort to me somehow; i just find it calming. you have a sunny personality and you're funny and sharp-witted, and i love it. (also despite not wearing makeup, i like seeing the glittery colors.) your videos have a lot of value to me that i can't fully articulate, but suffice to say they're a source of fun and light and comfort in a world where all of that feels rarer all the time. thanks a lot for the labor you've put in over the years; as long as you love it i hope you'll carry on for many more.

Reasons why we all LOVE Emily: 1) She doesn't have a mean bone in her body (at least it's hard to believe that she does!) 2) She doesn't do embarrassing "glamour shot" intros or model-esque Instagram photos 3) She looks into the camera and not at herself in the viewfinder 4) She doesn't show off ANY free PR (i.e.; check out all my new makeup I was sent!) 5) She is professional and knows professionalism through her news job 6) She isn't "too good" for ANY makeup. She'll make you fall in love with a Revlon eye shadow that came out in '02. 7) Her video ideas are so clever and fun 8) She stayed humble, and you can see how important family is to her 9) She has the BEST reviews. 10) She raises awesome points about makeup (i.e.; "yeah these colors are pigmented, but once blended on the eye, they're all basically going to look like the same color") 11) You host such a REAL community. I don't have to gag at a thousand "YAAAAS" "Slaaaaay" "Queeennnn" comments. You attract real people. I have so much more. But that's it for now. :) Emily, I've been watching you FOREVER. I usually roll my eyes at people who fangirl over gurus and treat them like celebrities... but I would totally fangirl over you.

Emily, I normally don't comment but I wanted to let you know how much your videos mean to me. My makeup journey stated three years ago with your channel. I was really depressed. I had just dropped out of college and I was working these crappy jobs as a waitress. Concerned family encouraged me to either get a hobby or get medicated. I choose the former and makeup was my muse. Since I knew nothing about makeup, I turned to the internet to be my tutor. I eventually happened upon your channel and it was a game changer. You helped me figure out what foundation shade to buy. You helped me learn how to blend eye shadow with your "sandwich method". Your reviews guided my first drug store makeup purchases. Most importantly, your channel lit within me a fiery zeal for makeup. I recently went back to school to become and esthetician. I am now a licensed Benefit Arch Expert at my local Ulta. My passion for makeup is now matched for the love I have for my job at the Benefit Brow Bar. Thank you for all of the time and hard work you put into your videos, Emily. Your comment is very touchy and your experience remind me mine, I came to this country a not good situation, I was depressed, alone and because my hard time and the weather changed my skin was changing in not a very good way, well I had many problmes, no family, no friends, emily helped me to know what make up brands are in this country, how and where to buy it, and still here believing in her because when I purshased something that she recommend I see what she said was true, with other youtubers was different, I purshased what they recommend and got the surprise some didnt work as expected or how good they said. My life experience was different but I was in that same mental state when I started watching too. And it did the same for me. Hobby + interest in caring for my self helped pull me out of a rut enough to go get help. Sidenote: depression is a lifelong challenge. Sometimes you're winning, sometimes it is winning and sometimes you forget it's even a thing. Don't be afraid of the medicines. They're not a "fix" but they make life a lot easier. It is like taking Tylenol when you have a headache. It gets you enough relief so you can function and determine if it was lack of sleep or too much sugar etc that was causing the headache in the first place.

I'm sitting here crying right along with you. I found your channel way back when at one of the darkest times in my life. I had untreated mental illness, was in the worst depressive episode of my entire life, and psoriasis was completely taking over my skin. I felt ugly and I truly did not want to be alive anymore. I stumbled across one of your Coastal Scents 88 color palette videos and I was drawn in by your passion and excitement for makeup, your infectious personality, and your refreshing honesty. I felt like I was just sitting listening to an old friend. I was getting teary eyed with you at the beginning, I honestly feel like I get to sit down with a friend when you post a new video. My dear Emily, where do I even begin. I found your channel a few years before you had Belle and I can honestly say you have become a staple in my life. I was looking at my own makeup collction and I realized most of the stuff I have has been purchased based on your recommendations. You took the scare factor away from applying makeup and made it fun. Emily, You are awesome! I just turned 65. As I've been aging, I have determined to continue to care about my appearance and to make the most of what I have. I've never worn a whole lot of makeup but have found over the last few years that I can use it as a tool to give me a lift and some confidence. You have given me such confidence when buying products as well as many other things. I have always watched the Emily Awards. The expenses were huge and I couldn’t afford to go to a salon so I decided to go the internet to find DIY on hair and beauty and bumped into your channel and You Tube. I made an instant connection to you and I became addicted to watching your beauty videos and I stayed. Today, 7 years later, I watch KZbin on a regular basis (more than I should), and you are my favorite channel to watch. Emily, I cried right along with you. It is nice to reminisce. I have been a subscriber for a lotta years, maybe not 10 but I would say at least 8-9. I did not know that a beauty community existed back then on youtube. How I found out was that I was curious about Kim K's makeup and what she used and googled it, found a video (don't even remember who it was now) and I was like, "oh, there are makeup videos?" Over to the side where the recommended videos are listed, there were more makeup videos and there was one of yours. That was how I first found you. You were working at a tv station that I was familiar with because I grew up in Western Ky (I moved away many years ago so I never saw you on the news) and it was our local ABC affiliate. I enjoyed your video and felt a connection to you and subscribed. You were the first subscription I ever had. I've watched through the moves and the babies, and I still enjoy your videos very much. Just wanted to share that.

Emily, I just love you! Honesty is the #1 thing I value while watching KZbin, and you're always the person I go to first for a review. Also, you wear makeup that is REALISTIC for people like me who live an average life..I have no use to wear glittery yellow eyeshadow with drawn on freckles. Oh this was so emotional for me too! I remember finding you from almost the beginning, I think it was for my 18th birthday and I turned 18 in February 2008. I didn’t really know about how to do good makeup and so I found you and started to learn from you. I’m from Sweden and 18 is basically the same as when Americans turn 21, it’s our legal age to start drinking so I was having a big party and wanted to look my best. And I’ve followed you ever since. For me, you are the original beauty guru and the only one I still follow religiously to this day. You are the only one I feel is really real and honest, I never doubt what you say about products and I love everything about you and your channel. I’ve loved following not only your makeup but your life. And since I’ve started following you I’ve finished high school, I met my husband, I finished collage, I’ve gotten married, bought my first house and had my first child.
